Title: Snooker- playing
Post by: Sippo on Saturday, December 20, 2008, 21:49:46
Anyone know if Jesters in swindon is members only or can non-members go along?

Or is there anywhere else that I can play apart from 147 and gangsters?

Jesters isnt members only (well not when ive gone during the day anyway) but you have to pay £1 to get in and the amount you pay per hour is more.

Thanks Mr Y.

Probably give oasis a miss as you have to rent the sticks for £1.40, and can only book the tables for an hour.

I played my mate at Jesters earlier in the year, both non-members. Think we just rang up before we went to check it wasn't a problem.

I managed a fucking magical break of 8. (red, blue, yellow)

Last time I played snooker was years ago and at the Link Centre. You have to get lucky with the table you get as the quality varies quite a bit.

There is also the club near Walcot, I used to play there. Think it was called the Green Beize club.

After years of practice at school i'm shit hot at pool if i do say so myself, but it just doesn't transfer to a full size snooker table. fucking hard game. if i'm playing my dad i always lose and am lucky to score above 30. after he's won i try and clear up the rest but it takes ages.

i've probably said this before, but when my dad was younger he played jimmy white in cowley - got thrashed, young jimmy was a little bit good.

He must thrash you if there's still a lot of balls left on the table when he's won.

I've only played on a full sized table once, when I was about 14. I remember thinking 'this is fucking massive' whilst holding a rest that was twice my height.

Keynsham is your best bet. About 20 tables, 8 american pool tables and some proper pool tables as well.

Think it;s £2 to sign in as a non member, about £20 a year for membership. It's about a fiver an hour to play.

Randomly, they close at 6pm on a Saturday.

In Bath itself there is Widecombe social club, only 1 table there and you need to be a member. There are also 2 tables in the Harrington Club, a quality "gentlemans club". Membership is expensive at around £80 per year but the 2 tables run on meters and it's £1 for about 35 minutes. no jeans and and no women (except behind the bar).

I think there are still 2 tables at the Sulis club near the Uni.

Failing all of the above, if you fancy venturing as far as Trowbridge, there is Steven Lee's club there, not that I've ever been.

Keynsham is good and you can get the train for about £3 each way, club is about 10 min walk from train station.

It's a crying shame there is no club in Bath. Several times a mate and I have discussed finding a site to open one!

I use to be a copper there - fucking shithole

It was that town that nobody wanted to work in so if you got in the shit and got disciplined they would move you there...  As soon as I completed my probation in sleepy Chippenham I figured I would play them them at there own game and asked for a voluntary transfer there, needless to say they thought I was mad but I knew that if I ever did get in the shit they would have no choice but to move me somewhere nicer as punishment :D

Play cricket there at least twice a year and thus have been in a couple of pubs there, an Arkells one called The Angel (?) springs to mind.

Do you know a chap called Tom Bowler?
