Title: Calderwood (hasn't really) Quits Forest (yet)
Post by: trentsider on Thursday, December 18, 2008, 00:07:58
Just heard on Radio Nottingham (midnight news) that hes resigned to take up the Swindon hotseat, as far as they are aware the deal is without a pay off or compensation involved. they also said that reports are sketchy until further news comes in but the two clubs have reached agreement tonight.

Not Calderwood then?

http://www.thisisnottingham.co.uk/football/Forest-boss-Calderwood-given-green-light-new-signings/article-556687-detail/article.html

Quote
NOTTINGHAM Forest have given Colin Calderwood the green light to bring in new signings in the January transfer window.

Discussions have already taken place over potential targets, as the Reds look to bolster their fight against relegation in the Championship.

And it is an indication of the backing Calderwood still has among the Forest hierarchy – and that rumours linking him with a return to Swindon Town are wide of the mark.

The League One side had reportedly targeted their former player as a replacement for Maurice Malpas, who left the club last month.

But, while he was believed to top the short-list of targets at the County Ground, the fact that Forest have already held meetings to decide on potential January acquisitions at the City Ground only re-enforces the message that Calderwood is going nowhere.

It is understood that, while the Scot remains under pressure to transform the club's fortunes, Forest would still fend off any approaches for their manager.

A failure to improve results in the near future would leave Calderwood facing a bleak future.

But in the short-term, with four consecutive Championship games coming up against teams in the bottom five, the Reds realise they have an opportunity to make headway in their fight to pull clear of the bottom three.

And Forest will sanction new additions in the January window, with a new striker likely to top their shopping list.

Chief scout Keith Burt, football consultant David Pleat and Calderwood have all been involved in the search, which could ultimately see two or three players arrive in early 2009.

The Reds must also make a decision on the future of influential keeper Lee Camp, who has made a big impact since joining from QPR – but whose loan spell expires in January.

Yea Watkins says it is between 2 now and thre board have identified their top target and hope to reach agreement today

Ther person in question have experience of L1, Championship & Premier but not necersarily as a manager

Now Speed has never played at L1 level that that must rule him out,

Calderwood has managed in L1, Championship and played in the premier so I wouldn't discount him still

Money has only managed at L1 & L2 in england, never played in premier or championship  - although would have under their previous titles

Watkins also said the person(s) that they want will have stfc running through them if you cut them open they will not be coming here as a stepping stone but to because they beleive they can get the club back to where it belongs, but they haven't got that 'wow' factor.

I'm more confused than ever now.....

From the WDP:

Swindon Town are on the brink of bringing their long search for a manager to a conclusion.
The saga took another twist yesterday afternoon when the three men shortlisted to succeed Maurice Malpas in the County Ground dugout was reduced to two after the candidate Town had been courting since the weekend was ruled out of the race.
It is understood that compensation could not be agreed with the club in question, but Town directors Nick Watkins and Jeremy Wray immediately set off for talks with one of the two final candidates yesterday evening.
They were set to offer that man the job at the meeting last night and are hoping to complete the formalities with his club this morning in time to make an official announcement this afternoon.
Watkins was unwilling to reveal who they were going to meet last night, but did say: "I'm very excited about the two people still under consideration and think either would do a good job.

FROM ADVER

CALDERWOOD SEEMS TO FIT...

THE next manager of Swindon Town was finally identified by the club’s board of directors last night, with the successful candidate expected to be unveiled before Saturday’s League One clash with Yeovil.
Chief executive Nick Watkins yesterday confirmed there were still two names in the running, and that a final decision would be taken during a late night conference call with chairman Andrew Fitton, who is in America on business.
Watkins declined to answer any questions about the identity of the candidates, other than to say it would be a tough call between two men “desperate” for the job.
“We are down to two, and hopefully after a discussion with Andrew we will be in a position to begin the process of engaging with the chosen individual’s club, with a view to them accepting this appointment and being released from where they are,” Watkins said.
“(The next manager) isn’t going to be a wow, wow, wow factor today, but I firmly believe it will be a wow, wow and extra wow factor tomorrow.
“I think the person will deliver, excite, enthuse and engage with the fans, the press, the community and the club.
“We’ve gone for someone who’s got experience of working in the Championship, of working in League One, possibly had experience in League Two, and maybe as an added bonus working in the Premiership, not necessarily in a managerial capacity.
“They have sniffed the high octane of the Premier League or the higher echelons of the Championship.
“If you’ve been infected by that, and you know what it tastes like, you want to get back there. We want somebody who can do that.”
Watkins revealed it was improbable that the new manager would be unveiled today, however when questioned, Fitton appeared more confident of a quick resolution to the process.
Speaking yesterday, he said: “I would think it is possible that an appointment will be made tomorrow, although probably not in the morning.
“Tomorrow it is likely to be resolved, although I cannot rule anything in or out.
“It’s been a long and arduous process but I don’t apologise for that.
“It’s not necessarily about money any more. I think we are going into a different era, in terms of the people coming through, their credentials are being checked before any appointment.”
Former Town defender Colin Calderwood would appear to fit the criteria set out by Fitton and the County Ground board, although sources close to Nottingham Forest indicate he will still be in charge at the City Ground this weekend.
Sheffield United player-coach Gary Speed is another high-profile name to have been linked with the vacant Town post, although it is believed the former Welsh international is keen to continue playing at the highest level.
“I think one day Gary Speed would make a very good manager for somebody,” said Fitton.
“I think he will still be playing next season, and for as long as he can, then he will gradually make a move into management.
“He would probably make a lot more money in one year as a player than he would in maybe three years as a manager.”
Former Walsall boss Richard Money has not yet been ruled out of the race, although Fitton refused to be drawn on any names at this late stage.

What??  Welcome our new manager???  No way, we need to keep up this "new tradition" of slating the new manager.  Put up a banner on the M4 simply saying "WHO? ? ?" and then never show any warmth towards our new gaffer.

Then hopefully in 10 months time we can force him out and we can go through all this again!!

“(The next manager) isn’t going to be a wow, wow, wow factor today, but I firmly believe it will be a wow, wow and extra wow factor tomorrow.

That seems to point more towards Money than Calderwood, unless Watkins is underestimating the "Wow today" factor of Calderwood.

To be honest, you can pick various quotes out and conclude that it must be X or Y. You could "prove" it was any one of a dozen different managers on that basis.  Until there is a formal announcement we wont know.

I went to school with a lad who had an part Irish Dad, you know, one of those English people who likes to proclaim their Irishness for no obvious reason, apart from maybe boarding the sometimes fashionable Oyrish band wagon.

Anyway, a few years later, when we're adults, we bump into him. Without the benefit of recently, or perhaps ever, going to Ireland, he's acquired a kind of nomadic Colin Farrell look and a full blown proper Irish accent. It still makes me chuckle to myself now. :D

Similarly I used to work with a guy who's Mum or Dad (I forget which) was Scottish, although he himself was born and had always lived in Bristol. He always talked with your standard "Fetch moi coider" Brizzle accent until one autumn he went with the relevant parent on a two-week visit to the family in Glasgow and came back talking like a full-on Rab C Glaswegian. It was the most bizarre thing I'd ever seen - like when an actor leaves a soap and they want to keep the character so the character goes on holiday then comes back a week or so later looking and sounding completely different and none of his friends or family seem to notice. Which doesn't work terribly well in soaps, but it's just utterly ridiculous in real life. And he got right mardie about it if anyone asked "Why are you talking like that?", like we were all supposed to pretend to ourselves this was how he'd always talked. Most odd.

So really as plastic jocks go, janaage's pretty tolerable, all things considered ;)

Thats a double whammy, Scottish and Brizzle. I once worked with a guy whose dad was Scottish, his mum was from Pakistan and he lived in Brizzle and supported the Slave Traders. He was actually a good lad but was a bit confused when I told him I found the Pakistani element of him the least offensive.

Yeah my true feelings really come out there.  Imagine having such a hatred for a country, that you live there, half your family originate from there, but you don't use a capital letter when you spell the country's name.  I mean how offensive and hardcore is that?    I'm surprised I haven't been banned from this site yet!!  I'm really evil me.

There's no inferiority complex at all, it's a rivalry, that's it.  On here it's unusual to see people refer to the clubs down the road as Oxford United, or Bristol City, Bristol Rovers, even Reading are known as plastics.  That's it, so when I write england I use a small e, who gives a fuck?  Well obviously some of you do, which is nice to know.

And before the "yeah but we don't give a fuck about Scotland" I very much doubt Reading or City fans care much about us, even the oxford lot probably don't care too much at the moment as we haven't played them for ages.  But rivalries should die, they should live on.

Money comes from Lowestoft....which is a bit eastern for my liking.....all our decent managers have come form the West Country...the North...Argentina or Laandan.

I'll give him a chance, but if we don't beat Yeovil on Sat he needs to go.

Good job he's not from Norwich then. If he came here to work his magic we'd have Norfolk enchants.
