What's the best part of the festive season for you?

For me, it's remembering what Christmas means, what it's all about.

Football on Boxing Day!!

After a day being forced to spend happy families with people you hardly ever see during the rest of the year, the joy I get at escaping on Boxing Day is unsurpassed.

getting the 16.10 to malaga on christmas eve.

Sounds good. Thus escaping the interminable party games and small talk.

I spend Christmas Day with my in-laws. It's painful.

Taking the tree down.

Apart from Christmas dinner. Cock all.

Bah hum fucking bug.

Getting pissed and not having to go to work.

The looks on the kids' faces as they open their presents. Before the inevitable disappointment as Daddy struggles for the best part of the day to put the fucking things together/find the right batteries/work out how the bloody thing's supposed to work.

When you've got young kids Christmas is great.

When it's just adults, it's the most boring day of the year.

Good shout. But don't forget the playing with something for 5 seconds before moving on to the next present for another 5 seconds and then saying they don't know how to do it / use it / play wth it.

Going to the pub all day and instead of having to keep one eye on the clock for some reason, not even knowing what day it is.

It's a fair point. Not to mention the compulsory "getting bored of waiting for Daddy to set up the first thing and so amusing themselves by squabbling over the £2.50 stocking filler when they've got scad loads of other stuff they could be playing with that you've blown a decent few ton on" aspect. Always heartwarming that one

3 weeks of nothing

2 Days off for me... Uber-happy with that!

waking up in the back of an ambulance on the way to a&e, and then having stitches in my head after splitting it open.

this happened yesterday, its a long story!

...feel free to explain it...

went out for a bit of a do. got battered. ended up play fighting with somebody and got punched. anyhow lost my balance and smacked my head on a sign that was on the wall and knocked myself out and split the front of my head open. woke up was carried out of the pub into the ambulance sat in one of the pubs chairs covered in lots of nice puke. puked up over the paramedic. passed out in the amb. woke up in the hospital and puked on the nurse, and had stitches put on the wound (i dont know how many as ive not seen the cut) i can vaguely remember speaking a load of jibberish to the nurse (i was well confused). now got a massive headache and concussion.

on the bright side ive been signed off for a week, until the stitches are removed, so not back into work until the 27th.

I'm not a lover of Christmas, i hate getting presents, so would have to say once it's finished is the best time for me.

I enjoy it all.  Seeing the folks and having a good old feed and a few glasses from my own cellar.

Plus the usual piss-up’s which are usually a reasonable laaaaarf.

I can’t fucking stand that New Years Eve noncing about though.

For me living abroad I guess it has to be a bit of time spent with family, drinking, eating and relaxing and watching terrible tv.

And the amount of football I get to watch over a small amount of time. This is especially good this year as I am off to India in just under a month and don't come back until the last game of the season!

I like picking presents for everyone!! thinking about things my friends and family would like etc!

Getting pissed with the family and a good cheese selection.

Being very materialistic, I mostly just like getting stuff.

Also, being very lazy, I like having the time off of work. The added bonus is that the time that IS spent at work is not proper work because no-one expects you to do anything.

The end of it for me, Doesn't do much for me as dont ahve much family etc. If I had kids I'd probably enjoy it more but dont.

Koh Samet, just about 2 1/2 hours drive (+ speed boat) from bangkok.

I ain't seen a beach since last xmas, can't wait.

Koh Chang is pretty ace too...about 4 hours from Bangkok and another short boat trip.

Fuck...this time last year I was in Khao Lak and then on xmas eve went to Koh Lanta. I'd love to be back at either of those places now.

Do you really hate christmas that much? I'd have thought you'd at least like the extra fixtures over the festive period, well maybe not this year but you know what I mean.

There is nothing better than being in England with your family and friends around you.

Boxing Day being the best day of the festivities, always a open house around my place, nobody goes home sober, cant wait.

My job is sort of my life and because of christmas things get complicated due to systems etc I use so from that respect yes. Fixtures... depends really who we have. I mean as you state, this season is pretty shit due to our league position but in honesty I haven't really gotten excited over Christmas time fixtures anyway. I understand why people get that excited but being selfish myself perhaps, I just hate the extra crowds, pushing queuing etc to do normal every day things like deposits at banks etc, go to post office to pay a bill etc although I am well aware of direct debits etc. I do these things for my nan and older people like to have receipts which compounds matters!

The anticipation, I suppose. I have this idealised vision that, Christmas TV is good (its not), the films are classics (they aren't) and that it's an excuse to eat as much as i like (and still get sick) and that I like my family all the time (they're best in small doses).

However this year I get the added bonus of having my girlfriend with my family too. And as she'll inevitably read this at some point, I'm looking forward to this christmas more than all the rest. Even when I was 8 and got really excited.
