I hated UB 40 with a passion, now it's just hate lite. I can do a passable imitation of Chalkie's Shorts meeting Pete Winkleman, on a hearing of the odious derivative pap, that is RRW. Fair play I suppose, they made a vast pile of $, out of supposedly being a bit leftie, but where's the soul, where's the fire in the belly? In fucking Jamaica that's where. Title: Re: Now thats what I call 1983 Post by: Mexicano Rojo on Saturday, November 22, 2008, 10:26:53 there first album signing off is fucking brilliant reg, then they went shit.

I disagree. Title: Re: Now thats what I call 1983 Post by: Mexicano Rojo on Saturday, November 22, 2008, 11:08:19 90% of the eighties music was awful. Fucking awful. Clubbing was fucking appaling until about 88. There was always the odd decent band but you had to fucking look long and hard for it. Thats why us oldies big up the stone roses, they were like a breath of fresh air after years of fucking dross. Not just musically but they changed club land, fashion and yeovils haircut.
Title: Re: Now thats what I call 1983 Post by: Sippo on Saturday, November 22, 2008, 11:12:05 I guess I'm just a cheesy guy!! :D
One song that wasn't awful was Blue Monday by new order. You must admit there were some classics released in the era. Wouldn't disagree with that...the early part of the 80's there were still some decent late 70's bands turning stuff out like The Clash and The Specials.....then Joy Division/ New Order,to an extent Human League, and some good synth popsters, who produced one or two decent things. Also there was always good American disco type stuff. I got political in the 80's, then had kids, so music took a bit of a back seat. The fact it was mostly crap, just sort of reinforced my feeling that I'd had it good in 60's and 70's so time to move on. Loved both, but disliked virtually everything by UB40 thereafter!
