Dear oh dear that's gonna hurt Swindon as a town, there's also gonna be 1,400 redundancies (told this by a Honda employee).  Hope it all turns out okay for the staff.

if we get payed is up to the associate representative council agreeing with certain policies eg banked days of non production wich they want to recover in future years.

They still get paid so it's not that bad is it?? Obviously won't get bonuses but it doesn't say anything about redundancies....

alot of people need bonuses and overtime to make ends meet tails

THis is a classic mistake.
Peolpe should never take bonus and overtime payments into account when budgeting for everyday items.  Still hard times and a big knock on effect for Swindon businesses and Swindon Town football club.

It says that the current production rates or unsustainable. So unless something drastic happens surely less cars needed = less shift hours = less people to make them?

Not just Honda, all the suppliers who have set up around here are going to be hit just as hard I guess - Nissin, SDC and the seat manufacturer in Highworth will bear the brunt I guess.

Why. There is practically a global recession, unsurprisingly practically every commercial industry will be affected.

I doubt Honda will pull out of F1 though.

If it made sense for them to sponsor STFC they would. But it doesn't.

Bad news... My Dad works in the auto industry in canada and the companies his company supplies parts for General Motors, Chrysler and Ford are near bankruptcy. His comapny are off over christmas. Also BMW are off for a month and now Honda.. rubbish news.

Every summer it seems there is a rumour that Honda want to sponsor us but the (old) board wouldn't agree to it. Personally I think people were talking crap!

Maybe crap? I seem to remember that Honda wanted to sponsor, or buy into us years ago but the condition was that they wanted one (or more) of their people on the board.

I would of been quite young then and probably heard it from a pub when the adults were speaking and i had to shut up with my crisps and coke.

Still, maybe crap!

 Yep...crap.

 Honda aren't noted for their community involvement....back in teh day firms such as GWR, WD and HO Wills, Garrards, Plessey, Vickers Armstrong, used to provide some leisure and sporting facilities for their workers....some of teh facilities were quite high grade.  A mate who was a Honda "associate" told me of how he tried to get a set of kit of them to set up a works team to play in the local league....just wasn't going to happen.

To be fair Reg if they bring loads of jobs to the community and have a history of treating their employee's bloody well, why should they?

Some of our suppliers (pretty big ones as well) at my work have already gone bust.

Well, we're about to find out just how well they do treat their employees. My feeling is that they will avoid redundancies where possible, but only due to the cost and inconvenience of training new workers when things pick up.
