Title: Swindon V Brighton Matchday Thread. Post by: herthab on Wednesday, November 12, 2008, 06:58:52 No rain forecasted, which is a bonus.
The parking restrictions near the ground have been lifted, so as long as we get there early I'll park close to the ground and get the bus to Mex's place (That way we can make a quick getaway after the game). What reaction will we get off the players after Saturdays debacle? I know some of you think the JPT is a waste of time (Bet you'd go to Wembley for the final though!) but I think this is an important game. I'm going for a display of bouncebackibility and a win. 4-1. Title: Re: Swindon V Brighton Matchday Thread. Post by: tans on Wednesday, November 12, 2008, 07:06:51 4-1 you mentalist.
Im going for a penalty shoot out and the curse will strike again. 1-1 draw before that though Title: Re: Swindon V Brighton Matchday Thread. Post by: herthab on Wednesday, November 12, 2008, 07:19:18 4-1 you mentalist. Im going for a penalty shoot out and the curse will strike again. 1-1 draw before that though I don't really think we'll win 4-1, it's just a habit I've got into and I'll continue to predict it until we actually manage it! There'll be one goal in this 2-1, or 3-2 Title: Re: Swindon V Brighton Matchday Thread. Post by: Batch on Wednesday, November 12, 2008, 07:29:15 I think we'll lose 2-1. I've never known Paynter to not put his shift in this season so his dropping surprises me. I would put the Macca decision down to tactics, and the Paynter decision down to the fact he's played a lot of games recently. Don't think it's designed as a punishmentTitle: Re: Swindon V Brighton Matchday Thread. Post by: Simon Pieman on Wednesday, November 12, 2008, 19:45:46 Macca was ineffective and has been for a while. Maybe it's because he has less pressure on him with Marshall being out. I know he gets marked out a lot of the time, but his off the ball movement isn't great. I see that as a good swap.
Paynter doesn't deserve to be dropped overall this season. Sounds like he's being rested. We were ineffective all over the park. I think Malpas could have swapped out the entire team and I wouldn't be able to grumble. Maybe apart from Timlin. Title: Re: Swindon V Brighton Matchday Thread. Title: Re: Swindon V Brighton Matchday Thread. Post by: Panda Paws on Wednesday, November 12, 2008, 23:26:51 It gets worse and worse and I'm starting to worry about when it's going to stop. Tonight was shocking. We've had 2 meaningful efforts on goal in two games and can't defend for shit. Corr does nothing but stand offside, Marshall was useless and didn't deliver into the box enough, Kanyuka was awful. The only bright spots were J Smith, Morison and Nalis in the second half. I can't remember the least time I saw us play well, or even fight and battle (wasn't at Oldham or Northampton), and we don't even look like scoring at the moment! The game was so bad we resorsted to goading the home fans queueing for food, much to the disgust of the 409 stewards and police.
Also, much thanks to Mex for letting us student types drink in his fine establishment pre-game. Title: Re: Swindon V Brighton Matchday Thread. Post by: Whits on Wednesday, November 12, 2008, 23:28:43 haha, that was ace...i love the johnstone paint!

Title: Re: Swindon V Brighton Matchday Thread. Post by: JanAageisGod on Thursday, November 13, 2008, 00:11:11 Oh how I am looking forward to seeing Brighton fans tomorrow, let alone players. Lucky me!
I've had more fun contracting a disease. In fact I've had more fun getting the vaccinations. Morrison still looks like he will be class, but other than that I think I'd have got more pleasure by stuffing a meat skewer up my nose. Whatever was in central midfield was painfully laborious, the strikers got pissed off with chasing after hopeful balls humped vaguely in their direction, the defence was the usual insipid shambles with the standard idiot set piece goal just to round it all off. I'm afraid Marshall looked way short of the standard required, which I don't like saying given what's happened to him on the personal front. But If that's the "reaction" to the Histon game give me a gun about now - then you'll see a reaction. I just don't know whether or not to shoot myself first or take out half the squad beforehand. Title: Re: Swindon V Brighton Matchday Thread. Post by: STFC_Gazza on Thursday, November 13, 2008, 00:31:20 The whole team bar Morrison was shit. Interseting times!

Title: Re: Swindon V Brighton Matchday Thread. Post by: axs on Thursday, November 13, 2008, 10:56:13 That was really quite appalling.
Marshall didn't provide a threat for us and was constantly making errors. Corr couldn't win the ball in the air or hold it up or pass it - get Paynter back. Kanyuke doesn't seem to have any awareness of what is going on around him. Timlin worked hard as did Smith but both found themselves out of position at times. Cox got no service from midfield and looked frustrated. He was well marked by Brighton but we didn't use that to our advantage. Can't remember JPM really getting in to the game. Nalis was OK when he came on but didn't do anything to change the game. We miss a decent central defender, Peacock and Paynter. Tuaca is ace though. Title: Re: Swindon V Brighton Matchday Thread. Title: Re: Swindon V Brighton Matchday Thread. Post by: Samdy Gray on Thursday, November 13, 2008, 14:33:28 Does anyone think we're a bit like England have been. Turn up to games, run around for a bit but don't actually do anything and are cack - like we are going through the motions. The difference between our good performances and our shit ones seems to be attitude and team spirit. Obviously can't comment on the Brighton game but seemed that way against Histon. First and last time I'll compare us to England I reckon. Definitely Si. We don't have anyone except maybe Pook who play for the shirt and not the money. IMO we need a few more players who actually really care about playing for Swindon. Title: Re: Swindon V Brighton Matchday Thread. While such a team might not lack passion, I think we'd struggle tbhTitle: Re: Swindon V Brighton Matchday Thread. Post by: STFC4LIFE on Thursday, November 13, 2008, 14:50:29 You forgot Toni.
Title: Re: Swindon V Brighton Matchday Thread. Post by: Colin Todd on Thursday, November 13, 2008, 15:05:24 Its a sound idea in theory but where are these passionate swindon fans who are good enough to play in league 1 coming from exactly?
Most of our yoofs aint from Swindon from a start Title: Re: Swindon V Brighton Matchday Thread. Post by: THE FLASH on Thursday, November 13, 2008, 17:46:22 My first post on this as i havent been back long!
Poor!!! No shot on goal in the first half.........Marshall needed a snorkel...way out of his depth and stayed on the whole game, that was a joke. Timlin played well, as did the midfield in the second half but we never ever looked like scoring as they didnt seem to be any gameplan at all. Brighton were poor and we were a poor second. I feel really dejected as i really thought we would go all the way in this and Brighton were there for the taking if we had managed to string more than two passes together in any one passage of play. I didnt go to Histon like some of the die hards who stood behind me last night but this is up there with the worst town peformances that i have ever witnessed - 1983 onwards. The players look shattered and devoid of any spirit at the final whistle, some walked right over to the fans to applaud but they eyes seemed to have glazed over. If we beat the scummy foxes on Saturday i will be amazed. Unless we have a relegation dogfight (looks likely) the season is now officially over. I just hope we have enough gas in the tank to gain the points we need! Title: Re: Swindon V Brighton Matchday Thread. Post by: adje on Thursday, November 13, 2008, 18:45:50 No. 2-2 Parkin x2 for us. Someone and Darius Henderson with a penalty for them I think. Yes-awarded for a dive by that little shight Knight Title: Re: Swindon V Brighton Matchday Thread. Post by: No Longer Posh Red on Thursday, November 13, 2008, 18:59:05 That was really quite appalling. No, we've got a decent central defender, but the scottish twat in charge has fucked him up, and now won't even put him on the bench. If part of AF's 5 year plan is to get us into League 2 again it's all going very well, otherwise it's a big bag of shit! >:( Title: Re: Swindon V Brighton Matchday Thread. Post by: Mark Hanrahan on Thursday, November 13, 2008, 21:32:17 What an utter joke of a match last night. Two shite teams, one shite ground and only a half decent chicken and mushroom pie to write home about (yep, no chocolate in sight!). Bloody hard to bring myself to revisit it on here today... and even harder to summarise last night. No joke - literally one of the most inept performances I've seen in a bloody long time. Clueless and for my money indicative of a team lacking leadership on and off the park and playing with zero faith in the manager. It hurts me to say that as I'm usually a very, very patient bloke. I gave Kingy the best part of two years behind I finally gave up the ghost!!
The goals conceded were really unlucky - two horrible bobbles that in truth PK could do little about. The challenge for the first was unnececesary but to be fair, had it not bobbled up, the ball would have ended up sailing out of the ground. What irked me was the sheer lack of spirit and organisation. We huffed and puffed but showed very little quality of a pitch that generally should have encouraged zipping the ball about on the deck. Still sulking tonight. I really thought that with all MM talk of taking the JPT seriously, we could have at least squeezed in a Wembley trip to lighten the gloom. OK, it was only the JPT and our much improved league form gives me a bit of hope but by Christ MM needs to pull a rabbit out of the hat on Saturday. Title: Re: Swindon V Brighton Matchday Thread. Post by: THE FLASH on Thursday, November 13, 2008, 21:43:13 I sat chatting with a Brighton fan on the bus back to the centre....he reckons they will shoot up the table when all the injured players come back.
I told he must have 14 players out!! Reality check - Brighton will be one of the teams who will be down there or there abouts come the trapdoor in April....trouble is I can also see another team down there too.....
