Title: Quiz question.....
Post by: Reg Smeeton on Monday, November 10, 2008, 18:09:40
The time frame for this question refers to my STFC watching 62 onwards.

Name the only ground, no longer in use by the club, where we have 100% losing record?

The Dell? I have only ever seen us lose there since I started going in 75, not that we have played there much but I have very bad memories of there!

Norwich

We won at Carrow Road last time we played there....the ground though is still in use.

The ground in question is no longer used by the club.

... which obviously means it's wrong. but it was the first old ground that I thought of for some reason and I took the time to do some research. Do I get some points?

too many years of doing exams by me.

We've a 100% losing record at the Riverside, but have been known to win at Ayrsome.

Whereas only draws at Roker and S of L.

Funnily enough Dorchester have had two grounds, both called 'The Avenue' within a fairly close distance.

The old one closed in 1990, so if you've seen them win at Dorchester since then it won't count for Reg's original question.

I have to admit that I have no idea about our record against Dorchester, i'm purely going on Reg's author clue.

Is the newer The Avenue where we drew when we played Bournemouth and Keith O'Halloran broke his leg?

Have we ever played Dorchester at the old one?

That was at the New version of the ground in 2001. I can't find any record of any fixtures between Swindon and Dorchester before 1997.

We have definately played and won at the old ground as I remember it, it was around 78-81 time a 2-0 win if I remember rightly.

 Yep Avenue Stadium, Dorchester.

The question needs slight modification to catch our last draw at the Dell in 1958.

Sarfend played at somewhere like Grainger Road in the 50's, don't think out record was too hot there.
