Title: adver best goal vote Post by: Arriba on Thursday, November 6, 2008, 16:08:11 anyone seen it? disapointing imo.
they could have done it properly and got fans to nominate goals.instead they came up with only 6, and some should not even be in the reckoning.cox's for instance is nowhere near good enough. no sam parkin, duncan shearer, don rogers, jan fjortoft, etc, etc, etc. my pick would be shearers half volley from about 40 yards away to west brom.diggers booted it,shearer let it bounce once then hit a feirce volley into the net at about waist height. Title: Re: adver best goal vote Post by: THE FLASH on Thursday, November 6, 2008, 16:21:10 Fjortoft scored a goal at home to Brighton or Watford in the cup - keepers kick - volleyed in!
Thats got to be up there? Title: Re: adver best goal vote Post by: herthab on Thursday, November 6, 2008, 16:22:41 Calderwoods free kick.

I love that goal. Not seen it for ages. Title: Re: adver best goal vote Post by: Colin Todd on Thursday, November 6, 2008, 16:34:02 I voted for Fallon, but I agree it was a shit selection to choose from.
A screamer from Hoddle at the SB end v Sunderland stands out for me. Or Marlon Broomes random thunderbolt from just outside the centre circle Title: Re: adver best goal vote Post by: nevillew on Thursday, November 6, 2008, 16:38:42 Best goal I can remember was Dave Mitchell v Watford (may have been in the cup)
A sweeping move, long crossfield ball to Shearer, first time cross and a diving header. Title: Re: adver best goal vote Post by: Simon Pieman on Thursday, November 6, 2008, 16:40:57 Jan Aage curling in a beauty against Millwall in the League cup was a good'n. I think I liked that one a lot because the replay on the telly from behind the goal showed just how little a chance the keeper stood. Plus it was part of the reason we got to the semi-finals. Cup runs are ace.
Of course there is the cracker Invincibile scored to keep us up against Peterborough. Proper Roy of the Rovers stuff. Gurney's free kick against Leeds was quality. Bit like Carlos, especially the fact he couldn't ever do it again despite trying three million times. Fallon's cheeky overhead kick against Brizzle probably wasn't the best, but just when it looked like we wouldn't get anything from the game he pops up and does that in front of a decent sized crowd. Title: Re: adver best goal vote Post by: flammableBen on Thursday, November 6, 2008, 16:47:27 Of course there is the cracker Invincibile scored to keep us up against Peterborough. Proper Roy of the Rovers stuff. Apart from it didn't really keep us up straight away. We still needed Rovers to lose to Wycombe midweek. Which always takes the edge off it a bit for me. Was still fucking ace at the time though. Title: Re: adver best goal vote Post by: Jamiesfuturewife on Thursday, November 6, 2008, 16:50:31 ha ha Si I had forgotten that Gurney goal - I had a big bag of munchies on my lap at the time and they went everywhere!
Title: Re: adver best goal vote Post by: donkey on Thursday, November 6, 2008, 17:01:52 Chalkie's third (our fourth) away at Watford during 1992/3 season...beautifully crafted...'Bring on the Geordies'.

The way he controlled it on his chest from about 10ft in the air and then did an overhead volley all in the same movement. Also the fact it was a top of the table clash in front of a sell out crowd against the Slave Traders.

I remember going totally fucking mental when that went in. Same with Invincible's goal of course.
Title: Re: adver best goal vote Post by: Summerof69 on Thursday, November 6, 2008, 17:39:05 Hoddle's goal against Sunderland was a beauty, but my favourite team goal was Hoddle's goal in the '93 play-off final against Leicester, where it was rolled out from Fraser, and the ball was passed bisecting all all the Leicester players to Craig Maskell, whose back-heel set up Hoddle...and the rest is history.
Another goal forgotten about is Steve Foley's volley from the edge of the Blackburn box in the '90 play-off semi-final. Also, Turbo's second goal in our last win at the Manor. Great volley. Title: Re: adver best goal vote Post by: Summerof69 on Thursday, November 6, 2008, 17:39:47 Fjortoft scored a goal at home to Brighton or Watford in the cup - keepers kick - volleyed in! Title: Re: adver best goal vote Post by: adje on Thursday, November 6, 2008, 17:45:31 John Trollope on the overlap against Watford-our big rivals in those days-scoring from about 25 yards in the Stratton Bank end in 1970.I think it was his first ever goal.Ken Stroud against Everton in the FA Cup was a bit special nd also John Moncur at Anfield was a terrific team goal.Shearer scored a blinding half-buddy from about 35 yards against WBA in the League cup about 90/91

This is a crap vote...Tommy Henderson's 1st STFC goal at the Manor is nowhere to be seen. My vote for best disallowed goal ever, goes to Paul Rideout's 30 yard strike v Hull on debut, disallowed as someone had strayed off as the ball whistled past them on the way to goal. Title: Re: adver best goal vote Post by: adje on Thursday, November 6, 2008, 18:08:32 Well corrected Reg.As disallowed goals go-Fjortofts at Man City was a cracker, and erroneously ruled out too
Title: Re: adver best goal vote Post by: Sippo on Thursday, November 6, 2008, 18:09:25 Marlon Broomes strike was quite immense, especially for a centre back.

Title: Re: adver best goal vote Post by: DV on Thursday, November 6, 2008, 18:12:05 the best disallowed one has to be Kevin Watsons one vs Tranmere, which I guess technically wasnt disallowed but it didnt stand in the end.

We need a new category for this, best goal that never was. I'm seeing a goal by KW v Grimsby. Phil King v Bradford City, must be in with a shout, I'm sure he'd tell you that anyway. Title: Re: adver best goal vote Post by: Reg Smeeton on Thursday, November 6, 2008, 18:22:19 Well corrected Reg.As disallowed goals go-Fjortofts at Man City was a cracker, and erroneously ruled out too Good call...I keep getting reminded of that goal, as you see so many similar, just our luck that season, to see a perfectly good goal disallowed. Definately agree with you on that own goal Reg, a lovely chip over Craig Forrest's desperate jump/dive from outside the area. If he'd tried he couldn't have judged it any better. Title: Re: adver best goal vote Post by: Kinky Tom on Thursday, November 6, 2008, 20:45:33 God there's been loads of great goals, eh?
Fjortoft away at Blackburn, at home to some team I seem to remember in Div 1, half-volley from corner of the box? Great team goal for me was Horlock against Southampton in the cup, brilliant 1 touch football. Gonna throw some off the woodwork action here now with Leitch against Sheff Utd when Ndah scored that great scissor-kick. That would have been some goal, the keeper was totally beaten. Title: Re: adver best goal vote Post by: Sippo on Thursday, November 6, 2008, 20:50:49 Steve Robinson has to come to mind, just because of who it was against!!

He had the balls to have a go, so imo a great finish. Title: Re: adver best goal vote Post by: adje on Thursday, November 6, 2008, 21:59:05 Wally's exquisite televised chip v Bolton-that was good
Title: Re: adver best goal vote Post by: spacey on Thursday, November 6, 2008, 22:24:35 Gurney's free kick against Leeds was quality. Bit like Carlos, especially the fact he couldn't ever do it again despite trying three million times. People go on about that goal, but for me the Parkin goal was better. The build up and finish was like a fridge full of beer and a cupboard full of brie. Title: Re: adver best goal vote Post by: Simon Pieman on Thursday, November 6, 2008, 22:35:33 Igoe's pass was quality for that goal. Can't believe we didn't get promoted with that team.

Can't believe we didn't get promoted with that team. The one touch passing movement was fucking awesome. We tore Leeds to absolute peices for a fair few spells in that game. If only we'd had a decent manager hey... Although that was easily the best football I've seen at the County Ground since we pissed all over Division 2 in 95/96. Apart from maybe the brief stint we had at the top of Division One, but the collapse that followed kinda makes me want to forget that. Title: Re: adver best goal vote Post by: land_of_bo on Friday, November 7, 2008, 08:05:14 I seem to remember a Jimmy Quinn scissor kick past the then England keeper Shilton vs Derby in the Cup at the CG. Hockaday scored from the touchline in the same game...
Someone else mentioned the Fjortoft strike vs Millwall. Dissallowed goals, can't remember which one but Bobby Barnes had 2 dissalowed in the same game vs West Brom, think one of them was a skinning run past half the team, no idea why it was chalked off. Title: Re: adver best goal vote Post by: Summerof69 on Friday, November 7, 2008, 09:26:07 Wally's exquisite televised chip v Bolton-that was good Talking of walters, how about his goal against West Brom at the CG from 35-40yds out, with the wind behind him. That was the game where a couple of Baggies fans had to go off to hospital, allegedly, with hypothermia !! Title: Re: adver best goal vote Post by: chalkies_shorts on Friday, November 7, 2008, 10:31:07 Best goal I can remember was Dave Mitchell v Watford (may have been in the cup) A sweeping move, long crossfield ball to Shearer, first time cross and a diving header. Agreed - cracking goal - probably my favourite, brilliant build up and against the legend that is David James as well. Fjortofts v Millwall would run it a close second. I was right behind the goal when Stroud wacked in that goal v Everton. He scored a few like that. I also think they've chosen the wrong Calderwood goal - he got a better one up at Nots County one year. And any goal v the Scummers is a good goal. Title: Re: adver best goal vote Post by: janaage on Friday, November 7, 2008, 10:35:51 Fjortoft's chip v Millwall
Hoddle v Sunderland Best header - Fjortoft's v Norwich Stratton Bank end, t'was sheer class Out of that list I can't make my mind up between Stroud and Fallon's goals. I'd probably have to say Rory Fallon just shades it. Yup, I live on the old Hadrian's Wall route a 3 minute drive from the City Centre. I enjoy the importance of football in this city - just a shame that they don't go beyond their own team (especially RE: Non-League football). There's a sports bookshop in Newcastle called The Back Page, everytime I'm there they can only mention a certain Newcastle 7 (Seven) result.
