Title: 1993 AND ALL THAT
Post by: juddie on Thursday, November 6, 2008, 11:20:55
I'm doing a feature for the Leicester programme on 1993 and I'm after as many memories from the play-off final as possible. If you've got five mins to spare and fancy recalling your memories of the day, then PM me asap...

cheers Jan, Flash (could you supply real names too?), perfect, For anyone else thinking about doing this, I'm after the following:

Did you feel nervous the night before?
How did you get down to Wembley, remember anything about the journey? Who’d you go with?
What did you make of Wembley? Were you there a couple of years earlier and if so, how did it feel second time around?
Memories of the game/atmosphere, your view?
Thoughts at 3-0/3-3?
How’s you feel at the end, how’d you celebrate?

This is the kind of thing. One more thing; as funny as it might be how lashed up you might have been, I can’t print any drinking stories!

Cheers

I was 7 years old. My parents went to Wembley and got lashed up and left me with my grandparents who wouldn't put the football on the telly.

My mum saying at half time ... if we can get 3-0 up we will be alright ...

the look on her face when Leicester make it 3-3!!

and then the joy when Bodin made it 4-3!

Greatest day of my football life!

my first ever Swindon game - I was like 11/12 - not gonna lie - didnt know half of what was going on

this is what I do remember

I went on a coach with Goatacre cricket club - my dads friend was drunkenly trying to sell raffle tickets on the way up - he went up one half the coach selling them for 50p and the other side a pound

I also remember all fans in the service stations on the way up

and the noise in Wembley - Id just heard nothing like it before

and all the flags and people hanging over the motorway bridges on the way back

Im trying to get my mum to get in the loft and get the photos out as Im going to that Leicester legends night thing but so far she is resisting

Juddie you got a contact for getting a "welcome to the CG" message in the programme.  We have our 5 Swedish mates coming over especially for the game and thought it might be a nice touch.  No bother if not fella, thought it would be worth a shout!

I remeber the euphoria of the game, going the wrong way out of wembley and being stuck in the Leicester traffic in a town decorated car.  Learnt a lot of words that day.

Then watching the highlights later that night, David fucking ple-yats first words after the final whistle 'oh and I can see the chelsea chairman over there'

What a wanker.   So for those who didnt go the first words they hear amongst the euphoria is david fucking pleat telling us we're losing our manager.  Always hated him.

And he drives too slow.

I drove down and back with 1000's of Leicester fans on the A1. Parked where they parked, walked up wembley way with thousand's of them.

Generally they were very good to me coming in, a few of them started having a go, but some of the others told them where to go.

Going home up the A1 we passed loads of Leicester cars, got flashed, signals etc all the way. What a great day that was.

Every town fan who went should realise how privileged they were. Doubt we'll ever experience such a feeling again, even if we got promoted back to the top league.

I remember my brother couldn't make it as he was in the Navy aboard ship at the time. So his missus came instead.
Our coach diver didn't seem to know the way & we got there at 2.55.
The game, I remember hugging someone I had never met before with sheer joy when the pen went in. Coach driver also didn't know how to get home going up the m40 rather than the m4, but going through North london most Leicester supporters were applauding us. Guess it was a great game even from their perspective

Some great scenes around old town, people on the streets, flags draped from buildings, strangers hugging etc etc, one of the best nights in old town ever.
(I was actually outside the wheatsheaf that night, anyone else?)
Also recall messages of support to the team in various shops and businesses windows, such as the old ford garge on the outskirts of town...

If any of the council or current board members are in any doubt as to the effect on the town of an event like that, I will quite happily fill them in, the town had a buzz to it back then, the likes of which I have never witnessed...

arriba, was also outside the vic etc for some time...I recall that someone climbed up a building on the other side of the road and hung a flag down the front of the building, to a huge cheers.....outside the whatsheaf there was a big crowd of people, at one point a dominoes pizza moped drove into the throng, after a huge bundle it eventually managed to pull off, box on the back open and everyone in the vicnity was scoffing a slice of pizza...tickled me! ....everyone was everyones friend that night - quality.
