A very underrated food group. Delicious. An important part of many a stew or pie, yet just as good cooked up with a bit of butter and sat next to a fried egg as part of a good breakfast/lunch/fatboy snack.

Lot's of people seem to have a dislike of mushrooms as strange slimey things, this is wrong, get over it people and enjoy this lovely food. You can thank me later.

Mushrooms are the number one source of happiness and despair in this world we live in. Although they contain enough poison to knock a horse into a heavy coma, they are a favoured delicacy of the French. But so are frogs, so, there you go. Mushrooms are an extremely posionous plant, which, when smeared heavily on spears, can be used to kill and maim. In contrast, the French have found that if you smear them heavily on toasted bread, they make quite an alternative to jam.

I hated mushrooms until about a year ago - now I'm growing quite fond of them. Grilled mushroom with cheese is always good!

Get a large mushroom, cover with cheese sauce (not to go over the edges) add breadcrumbs on top and bake in oven.

At last, sanity!! It isn't the sliminess I despise, it is the taste, just awful! Some people the other day were eating 'shroom soup next to me and I couldn't eat my lunch because of the disgraceful stench and I couldn't move as there were no seats left in the canteen!

Can't stand the horrible things myself, end up having to check the ingrediants on any pies, pasta etc just incase theve sneeked them in.

Same - When I moved over here the first word I made sure I knew in French was mushroom - champignons. I think the most used phrase I have used here (apart from Voulez vous Couchez avec moi, ce soir) is sans champignons.

I don't think there's any food I find repulsive. I'm not keen on carrots, but if they're on my plate I'll eat them.

To many picky fuckers around nowadays. Just ask Fred. He was brought up during rationing and would've been grateful for anything (Still is).

i went off mushrooms recently, but have now re-discovered their lushness again

I must admit I'll eat mushroom if they're:

a) In a curry
or
b) Served with steak and covered in Peppercorn sauce

 Of course, your supermarket mushroom, although convenient are a bit anodyne in flavour.

 Up to about 30 years ago, when you bought mushrooms, it wasn't something grown en masse in a Polish salt mine, but something picked from a field...proper tasty things, turned everything in the frying pan black.

 Freshly picked Lawyers Wigs, ususally do the same job, for some reason haven't seen too many this autumn.

Is that right about mushrooms being grown in Poland? Now that is interesting.

For the record, button mushrooms are the biggest waste of time, space and money on this planet. They taste of nothing. Chestnut mushrooms are okay I suppose but wild ones are what gets a highly accomplished chef, such as myself, excited.

Big flat mushrooms are nice, small ones tend to taste of bugger all and have the consistency of rubber if not cooked well.

You can't have garlic mushrooms without mushroom.

You can buy gay mushrooms now in packs of two...Funghis.

A store cupboard essential in chez Coxy. They get used in just about everything. Can't beat some shitake mushrooms in a thai dish.....

I've spent plenty a time sat in a field tripping my tits off to some lovely mushrooms.
