Title: Football club chairmen Post by: Bob's Orange on Wednesday, October 22, 2008, 16:13:23 ex Dundee United chairman Eddie Thompson was buried today after losing a long fight with cancer. I was just reading this article on BBC Sport and am sad to think that people like him are (pardon the expression) a dying breed. How many Man Utd fans are likely to turn up at Malcolm Glazer's funeral (for example).
I would like to think that however many years down the line that Andrew Fitton becomes a massive town fan like Thompson was with Dundee United. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/scotland/tayside_and_central/7682690.stm Title: Re: Football club chairmen Post by: Reg Smeeton on Wednesday, October 22, 2008, 16:39:28 I was a bit upset when Wilf Castle and Eric Lane went, dough boy and purveyor of swine, as well as being by later standards exemplary chairmen. Wilf's Market Street shop did a mean wholemeal loaf, and a lardy par excellence. Eric's Wood Street emporium did fine chitterlings, excellent black pudding, and was the last place in Swindon where you could by caul, the esential ingredient for a decent Wiltshire faggot.
