Title: Banned Songs..the old dope peddler! Post by: leefer on Saturday, October 18, 2008, 19:55:13 http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=EFtK0rcAvCA
Tom Lehrers sang this in 1953 it was not suprisingly banned! Put to a film like this it looks very dodgy indeed but the guy who sang it in 1953 was a very respected artist at the time and smoking dope then was as common as smoking a cigarette in the USA and there was abit of shock when it was banned. Justify my love by Madonna was banned by lots of American stations in 1990 along with Max Romeos Wet Dream in 1969...also Lil Louis sang French Kiss in 1989 and was pulled because of heavy breathing! When you hear the shocking lyrics on some rap songs especially its strange to think such innocent songs were banned.Hear is a few songs banned from all American and some British radio stations after 9/11. Shot Down In Flames..AC/DC Bodies.Drowning Pool. Brain Stew.Green Day. Say Hello To Heaven.Temple Of The Dog. Some radio stations banned Chumbawamba because they were overly political! Post by: Simon Pieman on Saturday, October 18, 2008, 20:22:57 In Notorius B.I.G.'s song 'Juicy' the lyrics "time to get paid, blow up like the world trade" are often scrambled on radio. Which is a bit silly as it is referring to the car bombing in 93 and was never blanked out before.

Even though I knew about the car bomb I'd always assumed 'blow up' was a reference to how big he was going to be, which to me makes more sense given what proceeds it and the fact it's in a hip-hop context. The internet doesn't seem to agree with me though. Title: Re: Banned Songs..the old dope peddler! Post by: Simon Pieman on Sunday, October 19, 2008, 18:13:11 Even though I knew about the car bomb I'd always assumed 'blow up' was a reference to how big he was going to be, which to me makes more sense given what proceeds it and the fact it's in a hip-hop context. The internet doesn't seem to agree with me though. That's what I'd always assumed, but I'd heard it/similar line in other songs so intrigue got the better of me and the internet gave me the same answer. Perhaps it is just about getting big, as the rest of the song would appear. |
