Title: On a more positive note
Post by: pauld on Tuesday, September 30, 2008, 19:58:31
I got home from work this evening and my eldest was (still) jumping up and down with excitement, having had a visit at school today from Coxy and Billy Paynter. From what I can gather (the account was a little garbled - he really was quite excited about it), they sat and chatted with the kids, answered their questions , then gave them a quick coaching session ("We learnt loads of skills, dad, and some of it was really hard and I'll show you when it's not raining cos if I do it in here I'll break things and it was great").

Fair play to the both of them, made his week, and fair play to the club and the FITC boys who I think organise these visits. Hope this gets a write-up in the Adver tomorrow (or later this week) - in a week when the players have taken a fair bit of criticism and it would be all too easy for them to want to hide away, nice to see them getting out in the community like this. Like I say, made my lad's week.

I know you're only taking the piss but to those who would ask that in all seriousness (and there will be some), as I understand it several of the players do this kind of thing quite often, in their own time (ie AFTER training if they have training that day).

Did anyone else see Cox come into the town end on Sunday after he accidently booted the ball at a young boys head?
The kid must have been about 10, he fell straight on the floor covering his head n crying, a steward went over until his dad arrived but the Coxy jumped the barriers n went n put his arms around the boy to make sure he was ok. Then when he finished warming up he came back over to give said boy his training top... I thought it was a lovely thing to do.

Eh? According to you, they didn't train yesterday either. Are you saying they're not training at all this week?

Oh, I see. Even so, after Sunday, you'd have thought they'd have wanted to perhaps work on some of it more than just on Wednesday and (I assume) Friday.

it's always great to hear about our players doing stuff in the community (except for community service, obviously)

your little lad is awesome as well

especially after Malpas was moaning in his interview after Millwall about being caught out at yet another set piece and said the players will work hard on the training ground this week practicing set pieces

Paynter did the exact same last season, the kid had tears streaming down his eyes and Paynter wrapped his training top around him and consoled him.

Maybe it was the same kid and he does it on purpose?
