Title: What Would Be.....
Post by: PHIL!!!! on Monday, September 29, 2008, 19:28:17
.......Your prefered starting XI based on what you have seen so far this campaign?

Maybe a pointless thread, but obviously many people have different views on who should be in or out of the team. For instance, many feel Peacock deserves a fair crack at the whip in the middle of the park, whereas others feel the experience of Jamie Vincent is what we are desperately missing in the back line etc etc....

I realise it's not necesserily the team selection that is wrong, as it doesn't take a rocket scientist to see that confidence among the team is at an all time low.

I'd have Buffon in goal.

Oh and i realise JV is injured, but we are desperatly missing his cool, calm and collected approach. Him and ifil at the back would be my centre pairing everytime.

Smith

Amankwaah
Ifil
Morrison/Vincent (Undecided)
J Smith

Easton
Peacock
Timlin
McNamee

Cox
Paynter

I know Ifil and Morrison look dodgy together but Kanyuka is too injury prone and I have lost confidence in Hasney.

Oh and I totally think Peacock should be captain in there and boss the team.

aljofree and jp should be nowhere near any swindon team at the minute

Strange that everyone has stuck with 4-4-2 i thought some may have suggested another formation.

only suggestion i can think of is 4-5-1 but that means dropping either cox or paynter.

I suggested a different formation

Totally agree with Peacock being named captain. He's the type to spur on the other players with his sheer determination and desire.

I also agree with Russ about bringin in Kennedy. He looks a real prospect everytime i've seen him, and wouldn't lack the passion that maybe some of the other lads are....

Kennedy should be in the squad no doubt

To be honest if we're going to play so badly without any passion, I would like to see some of the younger lads given a chance - however don't want the same mentality rubbing off on them from the current XI.

What formation are you playing DRS, looks like 4-4-2 to me unless of course you are playing Paynter in midfield?

Title: Re: What Would Be.....

In theory it would be good but in reality the young lads would just suffer abuse and end up being boo'd off the pitch like Morrison did. They don't need that.

I agree.  Got to sort out the cause of the problem before everyone ends up being put down I guess.

He's gone 5-3-2

Or 3-5-2. Tactical genius

Still not enough at the back to keep a clean sheet.

Same back 4 and keeper as yesterday, Easton sat in front of the defence, Timlin left, Nalis and Peacock in the middle, Cox tucked in on the right and Big Billy Paynter up top on his own.

Brez

Amankwaah
Smith
Vincent
Ifil/Morrison

Marshall
Easton
Nalis
Timlin
McNamee

Cox

And, no we don't have good players.  We have about 3 good ones and a bunch of average League 1 players who blow hot and cold.  The formation change is to allow for that fact and play the numbers game in midfield to try and get some control.  Cox has enough about him to do the lone striker, and the 2 wingers have enough pace to be able to join him.  Having 2 around Nalis would free him up to control the tempo and protect the back 4.  Vincent is the best organiser of the defence, so when fit should be in there and Smith is doing a solid enough job at left back.

They told you that themselves did they? I'd be more convinced if they played like it

A few things would depend on certain people and how they were in training....but with everyone fit

Smith/Brez - much of muchness dont think one is any better than the other

Jack Smith
Jerel Ifil
Hansey Aljofree
Jamie Vincent

Kevin Amankwaah - touch and go, he'd played wing back before and I think he could do a job on the right. JPM isnt cutting it and Marshall isnt ready for a full on start. We'd get raped (even more so than we already do) with him and McNamee
Craig Easton
Lee Peacock
Anthony McNamee

Simon Cox
Billy Paynter

or alternativly

Smith/Brez

Smith
Ifil
Aljofree
Vincent

Easton
Peacock
Nalis

Paynter
Corr
Cox

or....even at a push with wing backs

Smith/Brez

Amankwaah

Ifil
Morrison
Vincent

Smith

Easton
Peacock
Nalis

Paynter
Cox

Mcnamee twice in the first team

no, you just cant read ;)

the first mention of McNamee is part of the little thing I wrote about Kevin Amankwaah playing right wing and just so happens to McNamee appears on the next line making it look like I've put him central midfield when really I havent.

If he's the best we've got, then you are clearly right.  The one thing that stood out for me on Saturday, on reflection, was that we had no captain on the pitch.  Not a Calderwood, nor even a Taylor nor a Leitch.  There was no-one to either get the players going by word or deed.  There was no-one on the field who did, or could do, that job.  It needs to be addressed.
