Title: Re: Christian Roberts Post by: Rustle on Thursday, September 25, 2008, 16:31:29 A Sad day one player who never shirked a challenge or moaned for being played out of position.
Goodluck to him for the future. Title: Re: Christian Roberts Post by: blinkpip on Thursday, September 25, 2008, 16:43:41 see you Robbo, fondest memory was the winner at Luton last year. Mine is his dive for the penalty against Rovers and goal against Lincoln away.Title: Re: Christian Roberts Post by: wheretherealredsare on Thursday, September 25, 2008, 16:44:43 They've got Ronaldo ... but we had our Robbo.
Good luck. Title: Re: Christian Roberts Post by: Iffy's Onion Bhaji on Thursday, September 25, 2008, 16:46:01 Good luck to him. Sad he's had to stop early.

Title: Re: Christian Roberts Post by: Samdy Gray on Thursday, September 25, 2008, 16:58:30 I've changed my avatar in honour of Robbo, the only Taff I've ever liked.
Title: Re: Christian Roberts Post by: Rich Pullen on Thursday, September 25, 2008, 17:00:21 I've changed my avatar in honour of Robbo, the only Taff I've ever liked. Not even the Bodin? Title: Re: Christian Roberts Post by: Whits on Thursday, September 25, 2008, 17:00:26 that match against sheff weds when we won 3-2, one of his greatest 15 mins :D
all the best robbo Title: Re: Christian Roberts Post by: Rustle on Thursday, September 25, 2008, 17:01:19 see you Robbo, fondest memory was the winner at Luton last year. My memory aint what it was,but mine was the goal he scored at the CG ran down the wing cut inside the defender just outside the box and smashed it low and hard into the corner. Title: Re: Christian Roberts Post by: Samdy Gray on Thursday, September 25, 2008, 17:02:40 Not even the Bodin? Never really been a big fan of Bodin. I'd have a go on his daughter though... Title: Re: Christian Roberts Post by: Batch on Thursday, September 25, 2008, 17:05:01 Good luck Robbo. Always sad to see a career come to a premature end.
For every door that closes another one opens I guess. Title: Re: Christian Roberts Post by: Rich Pullen on Thursday, September 25, 2008, 17:07:46 I'd have a go on his daughter though... Touche. The guy denied the Welsh a World Cup spot... and then scored a penalty for Swindon (against Ipswich?) shortly after. Bodin knew what his priorities were! I thought we were onto a winner when Roberts bagged a goal on his debut... Sad what happenend in the end, he had the potential. Title: Re: Christian Roberts Post by: DMR on Thursday, September 25, 2008, 17:20:32 Very sad news. I echo the above sentiments really.
Personal fave, although we ended up getting beat, was the screamer at Swansea then winding the cunts up after he scored. Love it. Title: Re: Christian Roberts Post by: leefer on Thursday, September 25, 2008, 17:25:20 Good luck Robbo......
Title: Re: Christian Roberts Post by: tans on Thursday, September 25, 2008, 17:26:44 Very sad news. I echo the above sentiments really. Personal fave, although we ended up getting beat, was the screamer at Swansea then winding the cunts up after he scored. Love it. Was that the 'ayatollah' incident? Robbo was quality, its a shame its ended. Title: Re: Christian Roberts Post by: Rich Pullen on Thursday, September 25, 2008, 17:27:22 Was that the 'ayatollah' incident? Darn right it was. Title: Re: Christian Roberts Post by: BANGKOK RED on Thursday, September 25, 2008, 17:30:31 Is he gonna say goodbye or what? I fucking hope so.
I've never seen the bloke play yet I have followed his whole career whilst he was with us, I almost feel as though I have an afiliation to the chap the same as I do with my gods OST, Hazard, Shearer ect. OK he may not qualify as a legend but he could/should at least give us a wave goodbye. Either way good luck Christiano Roberto, and keep of the sauce mate. Title: Re: Christian Roberts Post by: DV on Thursday, September 25, 2008, 17:31:11 he should at least do a lap of honour on Sunday...
Title: Re: Christian Roberts Post by: Bogus Dave on Thursday, September 25, 2008, 17:34:40 Good luck to him. On his day he was dynomite
Title: Re: Christian Roberts Post by: tans on Thursday, September 25, 2008, 17:36:19 On the bright side the comments have been enabled on the site again.
*Awaits Romain to post something stupid like Malpas out for letting him retire....* Title: Re: Christian Roberts Post by: chalkies_shorts on Thursday, September 25, 2008, 18:36:00 I wish him well as a person but I couldn't care less about him putting on the Town shirt again. it shows how far we've fallen as a club when someone like Roberts is rated as a player.
Title: Re: Christian Roberts Post by: herthab on Thursday, September 25, 2008, 18:44:27 I wish him well as a person but I couldn't care less about him putting on the Town shirt again. it shows how far we've fallen as a club when someone like Roberts is rated as a player. Agreed. Roberts was a frustrating player who performed probably once every 5-6 games. Title: Re: Christian Roberts Post by: michael on Thursday, September 25, 2008, 19:29:25 :(
Poor Christian. Title: Re: Christian Roberts Post by: michael on Thursday, September 25, 2008, 19:45:13 Hey it says he's retired from professional football, maybe he's going to play for Oxford instead now?
Title: Re: Christian Roberts Post by: Rich Pullen on Thursday, September 25, 2008, 19:46:10 Hey it says he's retired from professional football, maybe he's going to play for Oxford instead now? Stranger things have happened... But by the sounds of he won't be anywhere near a football pitch anytime soon. Title: Re: Christian Roberts Post by: michael on Thursday, September 25, 2008, 19:47:12 I know someone very high up at the club and they have just told me that he's going to be pitchside on Sunday. 8)
Rock and roll. Title: Re: Christian Roberts Post by: herthab on Thursday, September 25, 2008, 19:52:07 I don't know anyone at the club, but it says on the OS that he'll be at the game Sunday..........
Title: Re: Christian Roberts Post by: DV on Thursday, September 25, 2008, 19:56:33 I dont know anyone at the club and I didnt read the OS but it was bloody obvious he'd be pitch side sunday!
Title: Re: Christian Roberts Post by: michael on Thursday, September 25, 2008, 19:58:37 Okay okay I got it from the website. Happy now you fucks?
Title: Re: Christian Roberts Post by: Nick Bamosomi on Thursday, September 25, 2008, 20:15:22 That 's a shame - all the best Robbo.
Title: Re: Christian Roberts Post by: LucienSanchez on Friday, September 26, 2008, 07:54:00 Sheff Weds at home and the Ayatollah at Swansea... great moments. He was a character, and i loved his arrogance that wound opposition players, staff, and fans no end.
Special mention for a 2 footed lunge right in front of Martin Allen too which sparked a little scuffle on the touchline. Think he got a yellow. Title: Re: Christian Roberts Post by: THE FLASH on Friday, September 26, 2008, 09:10:19 Very frustrating player......absolute crap at times (Mansfield away) and then Awesome at others (Swansea away).
I will remember the good times - good luck Christian, i hope this setback does not put you back on the bottle again. Title: Re: Christian Roberts Post by: Matchworn Shirts on Friday, September 26, 2008, 11:10:41 Wish him all the best in whatever he may choose to do next. Probably my lasting memory would be the penalty at Walsall
Title: Re: Christian Roberts Post by: adje on Friday, September 26, 2008, 13:01:04 I will remember him fondly
Title: Re: Christian Roberts Post by: Bogus Dave on Friday, September 26, 2008, 13:25:42 One moment that typifies what he can do is during a game in league 2 (against darlington i think), and the ball just somehow gets to him about 20 yards out, and he just smacked it on the half volley with his first touch, over the keeper but cannoned of the bar. Then i think he headed the rebound wide, but if his initial volley had gone in it would have been one of the best goals i have seen
Title: Re: Christian Roberts Post by: Phil_S on Friday, September 26, 2008, 13:55:57 I think his best game was when he turned looming defeat to victory & was awesome every time he went forward. Was that the Sheff Wednesday game mentioned earlier.
Remember him being on the bench once, & at half time was on the pitch entertaining the townend, and loving every minute of it. Would'nt ever get into a STFC legends team, but wish him the best Title: Re: Christian Roberts Post by: janaage on Friday, September 26, 2008, 13:57:24 It was the Sheffield Wednesday game and the Hull City match that he looked class - iirc.
Title: Re: Christian Roberts Post by: BANGKOK RED on Friday, September 26, 2008, 16:43:50 It's odd that I have never seen Christiano play, yet I share the same sentiments as you lot. And for some reason I took a liking to his cocky attitude without ever having met the bloke.
The word word legend is a bit strong but I feel a greater affinity to Christiano Roberto than I ever did towards Parkin. Regardless, if you are reading this Christiano, keep of the sauce mate and should you find yourself in Bangkok I will be more than happy to buy you a coke or two. Title: Re: Christian Roberts Post by: Maidenhead Red on Friday, September 26, 2008, 18:18:58 It was the Sheffield Wednesday game and the Hull City match that he looked class - iirc. I remember the home game vs Hull. IIRC he sprinted about 30 yards on to a loose ball in the hull half and as the ball bounced he got kicked by the Hull CB for his troubles! Great on his day. Good luck Mr. Roberts Title: Re: Christian Roberts Post by: Reg Smeeton on Friday, September 26, 2008, 18:29:42 I recall with fondness, the Chavmeister's contribution to AK's last game in charge.
v Bradford City, he came on as a sub with us 2-1 down to one each from Windass and Claridge.....got the ball and went off on a trademark mazy dribble towards the Stratton Bank. At some point I think he realised we were kicking towards the TE, stopped tried to get back up the pitch, lost the ball, and Claridge was played in for an easy finish. At this point I realised all was not right in the Roberts' head...Iffy shipped him off to Sporting Chance soon afterwards. I'll still give him the old Christian Roberts chant on Sunday though. Title: Re: Christian Roberts Post by: leefer on Friday, September 26, 2008, 19:44:47 OOOOOOh Christian Roberts used to......so will i Reg.
Title: Re: Christian Roberts Post by: blinkpip on Friday, September 26, 2008, 21:00:17 Bristol City fans on their forum are giving a lot of respect. He was even at one of their games last week in the VIP lounge.
Title: Re: Christian Roberts Post by: michael on Friday, September 26, 2008, 23:51:49 Trying for the life of me to remember who the oppo at the CG was when Roberts broke down the right after picking up a loose ball from a corner, as he reached the half way line he quite brilliantly centred the ball to Brian Howard by curling it around a defender rushing back leaving Howard practically 1 on 1 with their keeper, ending up in a goal.
Must have been 04/05 as this was the only season those two were in the same side. Anyone remember that, or have I got myself in a muddle yet again? Title: Re: Christian Roberts Post by: DV on Friday, September 26, 2008, 23:58:59 was it the Torquay 3-3 draw?
one of their goals came from a free kick because Ifil picked the ball up for a throw in before it had gone out! Howard scored, I think at the Stratton Bank end... Title: Re: Christian Roberts Post by: oxford_fan on Saturday, September 27, 2008, 01:04:02 I liked Roberts. Before he joined you he was playing for Exeter down in League Two with us, around 2002 I think. Exeter were rubbish apart from him. We either lost 2-1 or drew 2-2, and Roberts had an absolute stormer. At the final whistle he picked the ball out of the net down the Oxford Mail end and got a standing ovation from pretty much the whole stand, very rarely seen and also returned by the player. Top bloke.
Title: Re: Christian Roberts Post by: Spencer_White on Saturday, September 27, 2008, 07:35:17 It was the Sheffield Wednesday game and the Hull City match that he looked class - iirc. He was superb that spell. If he hadnt got injured and continued that form that season we would have got in the PO's. That was his best form, Wise did well to get what he did out of Roberts, but he wasnt the same player by then. But have to say, even when he was dry he showed massive lapses of concentration. After Wise left I dont think football held any motivation for him anymore (apart from playing Swansea). Title: Re: Christian Roberts Post by: michael on Saturday, September 27, 2008, 08:22:39 was it the Torquay 3-3 draw? one of their goals came from a free kick because Ifil picked the ball up for a throw in before it had gone out! Howard scored, I think at the Stratton Bank end... Yes that's the one. As soon as Roberts middled it he stopped running, he'd done his bit. The keeper came rushing out to meet Howard, but the ball in was so good Howard only had to touch it once to divert it past him and into the goal. Brilliant. Title: Re: Christian Roberts Post by: michael on Saturday, September 27, 2008, 08:32:21 Dun-dun durr-duh Christian Roberts
Title: Re: Christian Roberts Post by: reeves4england on Saturday, September 27, 2008, 11:42:08 That goal against Torquay was great. Roberts took it down on his chest from a Torquay corner if I remember correctly. To create a goal from that was incredible.
Wish I could be there tomorrow just to give him a warm round of applause to be honest!! All the best Robbo! Title: Re: Christian Roberts Post by: sonic youth on Saturday, September 27, 2008, 11:47:22 one of my abiding memories of robbo was when he absolutely crunched into the sheff wed keeper in that evening game. it was early on in the game, robbo was chasing a long ball over the top and the keeper came out and got a boot in the groin. we went onto win that quite comfortably.
has stefpol been on yet to celebrate robbo's demise? |
