Title: Tachos Post by: leefer on Saturday, September 20, 2008, 09:04:27 A young lady in Devon had an argument with my lorry last week...needlessto say like most young ladys on the road she was texting ,though she was adamant she wasnt, the fact is when i plled her out of the car her phone was on the passenger seat open, the car was a rite off and at least she was waring a seat belt or it could of been very serious.
Anyway both partys are blaming each other IMO she was going to fast and i know i wasnt because its there on record on the Tachograph, they show how long a driver has been driving and the speed so if there is a serious accident ther is no hiding place the Tacho shows it all. My point is i cant understand why all cars are not fitted with a tacho these days,if she had a tacho in her car the police and insurance companys could check hers and mine...10 seconds job sorted. The M8 in Glasgow was shut for 8 hours last week after a fatal collision bringing total chaos to the city while investigating work took place to decide the speeds of these cars on impact...a tachograph would show straight away the speeds and if the person applied there breaks. A driver i know sadly died near Cricklade,he was texting and drove his lorry into a parked stationry vehicle, the tacho showed his speed on impact and also showed he didnt brake as he was texting. They arnt expensive so car makers could easily put them into cars at no great expense and with 5000 people dying in smashes on our roads last year alone i think most wouldnt moan about using one if made law. They could also do away with Speed cameras because they will record your speed and i for one have learnt to respect the speed limits as the Tacho will show all. Would they be a good idea for cars, ive only showed the plusses(good word!)...is there any downsides? Title: Re: Tachos Post by: leefer on Saturday, September 20, 2008, 09:47:17 Mine is digital, your never going to get a machine that shows driver error ie reading or yakking on the phone...but it shows alot more relevant info that would make it far easier for the police, and insurance companys to decide in no time in alot of cases who is to blame....thats got to be a good thing especially in serious cases.

Title: Re: Tachos Post by: flammableBen on Saturday, September 20, 2008, 10:43:22 Can you imagine the Jeremy Clarkson style shouts of nanny state if anybody suggested that all new cars should have one of these in? I don't think any political party would risk it.
