Title: danny guthrie
Post by: Arriba on Saturday, September 13, 2008, 23:27:54
should be banned for a season in my opinion.

what did he do?

he kicked out at someone...red card sure, but not a dangerous tackle because he was never going to clamp down on the leg/foot/ankle and do any damage...

two deliberate nasty tackles that could have broke legs

it would have had to have been some kick to break a leg!

West Brom v West Ham: First ever EPL game with no shirt sponsors on display.

Title: Re: danny guthrie
Post by: michael on Sunday, September 14, 2008, 07:26:02
West Ham have obscured the name of their sponsor's logo. If they had Lotto kits instead of Umbro then all they'd have to do is wash them to get rid of it.

talking of sponsorship why are kingswood still all over the match day tickets?

Title: Re: danny guthrie
Post by: Nemo on Sunday, September 14, 2008, 09:33:37
They've got something like 50,000 of last years ticket stubs to use up before they can move onto the new ones if its anything like last season, where we were with Nationwide tickets till about January.

50,000 leftover?!

Bit optimistic whoever put that order in no?

why did we continue playing with a defunct sponsor on our shirts last season when as you say it would wash off so easily?

Title: Re: danny guthrie
Post by: Nemo on Sunday, September 14, 2008, 12:36:30
Because it'd wash off the website and probably logo at the same time, and we'd just look poor?

it was a joke.

Anyone who watched the championship this morning would have seen 3 or 4 worse tackles than Guthries, (especially Nafti at Birmingham) If we start giving years bans for tackles like that we would start running out of players.

Red card end of!

A certain Greek gentleman I expect - from one of his own companies?

that Nafti tackle was appalling. I seen the Guthrie incident on MOTD 2 and it was idiotic. He kicked out about 15 seconds earlier and missed.

Yep http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/teams/h/hull_city/7617057.stm

Guthrie should be banned for the same amount of time, although it said on SSN earlier that he's going to visit Fagan and apologise personally.

It wasn't just a tackle, it was GBH.

It was totally premeditated and IMO he deserves more of a ban than what Taylor got for breaking Eduardo's ankle.

Title: Re: danny guthrie

I agree... a 2 footed lunge at the ball at least looks like a tackle. This one was purely assault.

Oh come on, it was a kick in the fucking shins. If that's GBH then me and all my mates ought to still be in prison from our primary school days, we all tackled like that. That was on tarmac too.

Yes it's a shit tackle but people don't half over-react.

But thats the point...it wasnt a tackle,he lashed out,he obviously didnt mean to hurt him but thats not the point.....he did and should have the book thrown at him.

exactly DMR, he's hard;y in primary school is he? He deliberately twatted him, so throw the book at him. Shocking challenge.

Guthrie's intent was clearly there for all to see,as he had 2 goes at Fagan. On the 2nd occasion, when he
caught Fagan,he could also have caught his own teammate.Real red mist occasion,i can't see him getting
away with just a 3 match ban.

I concur.

But as long as someone thinks of the children it'll be fine.

... That broke the guys leg.

I know and understand what you're trying to say but if you did that in the streets you'd do time for it, or at the very least some community service!

So if he should get a season long ban, every player that reacts and hits out at a player with a punch, which is proper GBH, should get a life ban then?

I agree it was a bad frustration tackle, but if you are going to ban players for the season for things like this then football is on a slippery slope to becoming a non contact sport.

Eric Cantona, Ben Thatcher, Roy Keane, Julian Dicks, Alan Shearer, Steven Gerrard, Mark Hughes and Martin Keown should all be in prison now according to the punishment structure being talked about on here!

Fagan must have legs made of balsa wood to have his leg broken by that. The gay.  It really wasnt that bad. Obvious red card though.

As others have mentioned the tackle a birmingham player (nafti?)made on saturday was a million times worse, double footed and knee high.  Even the Leeds lads tackle was worse than Guthries and I didnt think it was that bad either.

It should be a minimum of two red cards, one for the attempted assault, and one for the kick that broke his leg.

String him up by his bollocks, shove a red hot poker up his arse and flog him until his body is a mass of cuts.

That'll teach him. (Or maybe I'm being too soft)

I missed MOTD on sat, anywhere online you can see the tackle? Heard it was bad but think a season ban etc would be far too far over the top imo

having though about it.as it was a deliberate kick at the player, gutherie should be banned as long as it takes the injured lad to play again.
