Supermarine Spitfire was built at what became  Vickers Armstrong during WW2.

Hunt's Copse site is either on or next to old Vickers Armstrong land .

I believe its because they play on the old ground on the site of the old Supermarine factory who used to make Spitfire engines in the WWII 2

Everything said above is correct, also Supermarine was the name of the old Vickers sports club, and it has just kinda stuck.

Supermarine merged with Swindon Athletic. Swindon Athletic was the fancy name for Penhill F.C. Hence the name Swindon Supermarine, who were just called Supermarine up until that point.

I think that's the name of the company which took over Supermarine Aircraft Co. Or Vickers something or other.

Part of the reason for planes at South Marston, was to spread out sites to avoid enemty bombing...so there was also factory unit out near Sevenhampton, which until relatively recently, was still there. haven't been that way for awhile so no longer sure and similarly at Blunsdon, probably Lady Lane.  There's been a lot of shit happening out there so no idea if it's survived....similarly to the old Gatrrards factory, as a kid I was always fascinated that they were still painted in camouflage military style.

I like the grass covered hangers at hullavington, though I guess that is a bit off topic.

Is that damned great hangar-type building on the corner of the Highworth/Watchfield/Sevenhampton junction?

Yes, stilll there Reg.  It is now owned by Elllipsis Farms, which is part of the Sevenhampton estate owned by Paddy McNally.  Edmont Joinery appear to store a lot of gear in there - but they do all the maintenance on McNally's various estates anyway.  Often wondered why a hangar was there, now we know!

Have you ever seen the old hangers at Wroughton....the walls are so thick.
