Title: Non League Post by: Luci on Sunday, August 31, 2008, 16:05:40 Forest Green and Salisbury both had pretty good starts to the season. Would like to see those two edge their way into the football league, especially as they are close to home!
Oxford are already 8 points adrift of top teams (I know its early days) but not the kind of position I'd want to be in for non league so early on! Anyone particularly hoping for any of the below for promotion back into the football league>? 1 Forest Green 6 5 13 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 2 Mansfield 6 4 13 3 Cambridge Utd 6 4 13 4 Salisbury 6 2 12 5 Wrexham 6 9 11 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 6 Burton Albion 6 4 11 7 Weymouth 6 2 11 8 Crawley Town 6 6 10 9 Kettering 6 3 10 10 Barrow 6 2 10 11 York 6 2 10 12 Ebbsfleet United 6 4 9 13 Eastbourne Borough 6 -3 9 14 Kidderminster 6 2 8 15 Rushden & D'monds 6 1 8 16 Histon 6 0 8 17 Oxford Utd 6 -3 5 18 Torquay 6 -4 5 19 Altrincham 6 -5 5 20 Stevenage 6 -9 5 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 21 Grays Athletic 6 -4 4 22 Northwich 6 -6 2 23 Lewes 6 -11 2 24 Woking 6 -5 1 Title: Re: Non League Post by: Simon Pieman on Sunday, August 31, 2008, 16:08:56 Not really fussed who goes up as long as it isn't Oxford or Ebbsfleet.
Title: Re: Non League Post by: flammableBen on Sunday, August 31, 2008, 16:09:48 They should really make it 3 up 3 down between the conference and the football league.

I agree, but you must have four sides to your ground to get promoted!!!Title: Re: Non League Post by: JOHNNY REEVES on Sunday, August 31, 2008, 17:43:28 weymouth would be a good weekend footy and piss up trip.
Title: Re: Non League Post by: wiggy on Sunday, August 31, 2008, 19:22:15 Salisbury would be great for me - it is closer than the County Ground if we ever end up in the same league.
I would like to see Altrincham come up because I have a mate who lives there, and there is a really good pub by his house. Title: Re: Non League Post by: Iffy's Onion Bhaji on Sunday, August 31, 2008, 20:06:50 Don't care. Hopefully we won't be playing them next season anyway.
Title: Re: Non League Post by: Bedford Red on Sunday, August 31, 2008, 20:08:44 I'd like to see Barrow back in the league for nostalgic reasons, think they got voted out back in about 72 although i could be wrong.
Title: Re: Non League Post by: janaage on Monday, September 1, 2008, 07:37:50 They should really make it 3 up 3 down between the conference and the football league. Why? It's the non-league, not league 3 (or division 5). One up plus a play off place is more than adequate. Title: Re: Non League Post by: Rustle on Monday, September 1, 2008, 10:06:18 I maybe in a minority here but i would like to see the pox back up,its not really the same without them, dont get me wrong i hate the cunts but it always generated a good atmosphere even if it was hostile, plus the fact it gave us better revenue and was good for travel wise.
If any game got the players and fans to respond it was those games.Swindon V Cheltenham just aint the same.A game against the pox now would certainly wet the appetite for a lot of fans. Title: Re: Non League Post by: leefer on Monday, September 1, 2008, 10:19:20 Know what you mean but for me any game in the championship would get my juices flowing, every team in that league are a big team with plenty of fans...Forest,Wolves,Brum etc.

I missed the CG fixture in 2000...the last one, as I was coaching my kids football team. He's now adult. The previous game was just about 10 years ago when we won 4-1. So I now regard O*ford as a bit of an irrelevance...don't care either way whether we play them or not. Oh and I agree with Bedford...Barrow were voted out purely on geography, they finished 3rd bottom...so they deserve to get back. Title: Re: Non League Post by: Rustle on Monday, September 1, 2008, 10:48:30 I think as time passes it will be a irrelevant, especially for the younger fans who wouldt know what a local derby against the pox would be like,I think that in its self is a shame' or am i just being a bit nostalgic.
leefer point taken about championship teams, the one i would look forward to would be the southampton one. Title: Re: Non League Post by: DerbyRed on Monday, September 1, 2008, 11:13:37 Southampton might be League One next year anyway!!
Title: Re: Non League Post by: dell boy on Monday, September 1, 2008, 11:15:25 Southampton might be League One next year anyway!! They will survive, theres a lot worse in that division.Title: Re: Non League Post by: flammableBen on Monday, September 1, 2008, 11:30:32 Why? It's the non-league, not league 3 (or division 5). One up plus a play off place is more than adequate. It always seems that it creates a back log of teams which are good enough to be in the football leauge at the top of the conference, and financially failing or stale clubs sitting at the bottom of the football league surviving longer than they should. The teams which have come up in recent years tend to do pretty well. Whilst the only team coming back up pretty easily is Carlisle (off the top of my head). I suppose it's not the biggest deal in football at the moment and it's better now that it's two not one like it was before. The football league argument seems a bit of a nothing one now, especially since the premier league broke off. It's not like there's a definite line of part time / full time going between the conference and league two, so the whole thing seems like a bit of an artificial construct. I suppose the main thing is that I like the idea of a smooth a football league pyramid as possible. Where generally teams that can cope with the level above them will get to play there sooner rather than later, while teams who can't going in the opposite direction.
