Never understood how D/L is calculated but that seemed a very generous target to me. Freddie hitting in the end was brilliant back to the old freddie of summers of 03,04 and 05.

Its based on resources...ie the relationship between wickets lost and available overs, D/L studied matches and came up with % figures. So if you've lost 9 wickets and have say 10 overs left you're less likely to score runs than if you have 3 wickets down. Similarly if there's an interuption for rain, when restarting the game the difference between the overs at that point and the overs lost is calculated as % of the score. When this happens account of the fact is taken that the team batting first may lose out and teh team batting second may have an advantage. So at any given point in the game, a D/L score can be calculated....personally I think it's aload of crap, leading as it did to the Bristholians beating the might of Somerset after Tresco and Kieswetter had both scored sublime hundreds. |
