This is one area we could learn from the yanks on. Though I don't fancy my chances of my money reaching a beer seller at the end of a row and more importantly my pint making it back to me. Title: Re: arsenal v newcastle Post by: DV on Sunday, August 31, 2008, 15:02:30 Problems at Newcastle they reckon. Owen could be sold for peanuts apparently. To me, Manchester United need an out and out quality natural goal scorer and Owen is out of contract in a year and if he turns down Newcastles offer would probably be sold cheaply before he is a free agent. Title: Re: arsenal v newcastle Post by: Nemo on Sunday, August 31, 2008, 15:12:36 Yes, I'm not sure you are allowed pints in the crowd. Designated areas only. Title: Re: arsenal v newcastle Post by: DV on Sunday, August 31, 2008, 20:59:23 Michael Owen is one of those players like Alan Shearer. Doesnt matter how well he is playing or how off the pace he is...he will score goals.
There is no logic behind it, he just does. His scoring record for England is top and he always pops up with a goal when England need one. Also, Unless i've missed an injury wheres Gabby Agbonlahor.... Title: Re: arsenal v newcastle Post by: Arriba on Sunday, August 31, 2008, 22:50:30 we might aswell get shearer back then.
owen is past it.if not he wouldn't be at newcastle. his england career is over Title: Re: arsenal v newcastle Post by: DV on Sunday, August 31, 2008, 22:58:27 If Alan Shearer was still playing he still would walk into the England side!!
Owen has 89 caps and 40 goals. 4th top scorer of all time and has never gone more than 4 England games without a goal. He's been playing for England for over 10 years and is still only 28. Being at Newcastle hardly makes his career over. The aforementioned Alan Shearer spent his best years at Newcastle, not because he was finished. Considering the other line of England strikers are Heskey, Defoe, Crouch & Darren Bent I think Michael Owens England career is far from over because he is about fifty times better than the previously mentioned strikers. Title: Re: arsenal v newcastle Post by: Arriba on Sunday, August 31, 2008, 23:03:55 newcastle are a worse side now dv.also owen is a crock and has had his day
Title: Re: arsenal v newcastle Post by: DV on Sunday, August 31, 2008, 23:06:11 Probably true on the Newcastle point but that has no reflection on Owen.
He's a natural born goal scorer and will continue to score goals untill he retires, which hopefully wont be for another 5 years at a minimum. Title: Re: arsenal v newcastle Post by: Scot Munroe on Tuesday, September 2, 2008, 19:04:59 seen something on teletext when i got back from work that Newcastle have confirmed that Keegan is still the Newcastle manager.
Title: Re: arsenal v newcastle Post by: glos_robin on Tuesday, September 2, 2008, 19:50:02 I thought he'd quit anyway? I'd imagine this is just one of those statements the club lawyers tell them to put out to reduce the amount of compensation the club has to pay out.
Title: Re: arsenal v newcastle Post by: Power to people on Wednesday, September 3, 2008, 12:51:35 It is all down to Wise, the players that have come in are being brought in by him, Keegan has no input and they want to sell players he wants to keep.
Technically they want a coach not a manager, so he will pick the team and take training but have no input elsewhere. It is quite funny as Tonn fan's were raving about Ashley and how he would take them to the next level and now look, he's not spending any money, got his lackey Wise in control of recruitment, forcing out Keegan.......it is wasn't so funny I'd cry for them...but I'll just laugh Toon fan's have always thought they were bigger and better than what they actually were...roll on the next Sheikh takeover Title: Re: arsenal v newcastle Post by: Batch on Wednesday, September 3, 2008, 13:10:41 http://www.journallive.co.uk/nufc/newcastle-united-news/2008/09/03/ashley-fights-to-keep-keegan-61634-21662201/
Sheds light on what might have happened, rumour is he had a spat with Derek Llambias who fired him. Ashley did not authorise the sacking and is now trying to sort things out. Ordinarily I really couldn't give a shit about Newcastle, the most overrated club and fans in the land. But it is quite an interesting story. Title: Re: arsenal v newcastle Post by: Jamiesfuturewife on Wednesday, September 3, 2008, 13:11:44 I saw on the news some fans had drapped some homemade signs over Keegans fancy big gates outside his home - Im sure he was thrilled!

Title: Re: arsenal v newcastle Post by: Batch on Thursday, September 4, 2008, 18:33:22 i hope Wise does get it, so the fans go mental and boycott the games Hahaha, me too :) Doubt Ashley will be pictured in the away end downing pints for a while either Title: Re: arsenal v newcastle Post by: Rich Pullen on Thursday, September 4, 2008, 18:38:17 Hahaha, me too :) Doubt Ashley will be pictured in the away end downing pints for a while either He'll sell up sooner rather than later now... He's a bit of a knob, as soon as Mort left it started going downhill. Sir Bobby Robson always said a chairman should be dignified, wear a suite be the face of the football club - Ashley wore a replica shirt and drank pints in view of the masses. Most would be okay with that, but Ashley isn't a Newcaslte supporter and all it looks is false. Title: Re: arsenal v newcastle Post by: Dazzza on Thursday, September 4, 2008, 19:50:19 I think old Ashley has dropped a bollock or two there by letting keegan walk. Not only has he sacked the messiah (he’s not the messiah…) in the eyes of the Toon “army” he was probably the only man they would have stuck by for a season of lower table shenanigans.
Wise is onto a hiding for nothing in that role and pretty much any manager worth their salt is not going to have a sniff. I am interested to see what odds Curbishley’s got on the job though. Out of the frying pan into the fire and after West Ham he can carry pretty much carry on at the Toon as he left off at the Hammers Title: Re: arsenal v newcastle Post by: Reg Smeeton on Thursday, September 4, 2008, 19:58:04 It was fun listening to 5live report from St James'...lots of chanting of "sack the Board" nostalgia eh...

Title: Re: arsenal v newcastle Post by: michael on Friday, September 5, 2008, 18:10:00 Apparently Keegan would have had to pay £2m if he resigned, but his lawyers argued constructive dismissal and so Ashley let him walk.
He should be happy really, his legacy remains in tact, and will not be tarnished by the inevitable 16th place finish that they would have had this season (possibly even below Sunderland). Title: Re: arsenal v newcastle Post by: Rich Pullen on Saturday, September 6, 2008, 23:15:41 Quote from: NUFC Statement Official NUFC Statement: September 6 NUFC wished, at all times, to keep any dispute that it had with Kevin Keegan private. It is therefore disappointing that information has reached the media through unnamed sources and a briefing has been given by the League Managers Association that could give rise to a misleading impression amongst the Club's fans. Newcastle United have no desire to engage in a war of words but inaccurate reporting of factual matters and inaccurate allegations have to be corrected. It is a fact that Kevin Keegan, on appointment on 16th January 2008, agreed to report to a Director of Football and to the Board. It is a fact that Kevin Keegan worked within that structure from 16th January 2008 until his resignation. It is a fact that Kevin Keegan, as manager, had specific duties in that he was responsible for the training, coaching, selection and motivation of the Team. It is a fact that Kevin Keegan was allowed to manage his specific duties without any interference from any Board member. It is a fact that Kevin Keegan agreed only to deal with the media in relation to Club matters relating to the Team and not to communicate with the media in relation to the acquisition or disposal of players. It is a fact that NUFC is a business and operates, like all businesses, with financial constraints. It is a fact that NUFC's financial constraints inform its transfer dealings. The Board of NUFC have responsibility to ensure that the club is able to meet its commitments which include the wages and the transfer fees for players. The structure at NUFC is clear, and has been clear from 16th January 2008. Fight-Fight-Fight-Fight......
