Title: Fatbury - Accept or Reject?
Post by: STFC4LIFE on Thursday, August 28, 2008, 16:32:25
Quote
A football transfer is to be decided by an internet vote of thousands of supporters for the very first time.

Members of myfootballclub.co.uk (MFC), who own Ebbsfleet United, will decide if they should accept a £140,000 offer from an unnamed club for John Akinde.

"It's quite historic," MFC founder Will Brooks told BBC Sport.

"The summer has been full of talk about Gareth Barry and Cristiano Ronaldo, but this transfer allows fans to have a say in whether it is right for the club."

The 30,000 plus members have 48 hours to decide whether they should sell the highly rated 19-year-old striker, who has played fewer than 20 games for Ebbsfleet.

He has already been watched by Chelsea scouts and the club have turned down an offer for Akinde from League One side Peterborough.

The non-league side's manager Liam Daish and board has recommended the striker should be sold to allow him to play at a higher level.

Players who have recently turned professional like Akinde are unlikely to be earning more than £200 a week.

"The fans are legal owners of the club," added Brooks. "Whereas transfers at other clubs are decided by a few board members this decision will be taken by 30,000 board members."

Earlier this year over 20,000 MyFootballClub members, who had each paid £35 to provide a £700,000 takeover pot, took control of Ebbsfleet, to give each fan an equal share in the club.

Since then members have voted on a number of major decisions affecting the club, including the price of season-tickets to watch Ebbsfleet, but this is the first time a transfer will be decided by the team's fans.

MFC's membership now stands at over 30,000 people, with members living in 122 countries.

"It has become very apparent that members are taking the responsibility of ownership very seriously and considering decisions made so far."

In July MFC members helped raised £20,000 to enable Daish to buy striker Michael Gash from Cambridge.

A bit? It's fucking stupid.

That's a better way of putting it. I thought it was a scam to begin with - it probably still is :D

The bid has come in from a club in our division, and it isn't Peterborough.

Will members get any dividend from the sale?

I thought they weren't allowed to?

Fatters do you know who the unnamed club is?

Its a tough decision to be made -- on the one hand we need the money cos Ebbsfleet is making debts all the time and he will be out of contract at the end of the season

On the other hand he is the best striker and we need him to get us promoted --

We do pick the team -- kind of -- there is a button to hand over team picking duties to the manager which currently wins every week as Liam Daish is doing a fantastic job - but if things go bad the owners might well pick the team ...

I voted to abstain - my head says sell and my heart says no - I couldnt sell our best player so I voted to abstain!!
Incidentally it is likely the club buying him might be Charlton .. altho Millwall and Peterborough are possibles ...

Be funny if it was Swindon tho

On another note Ebbsfleet are playing Oxford at home this Saturday .. so COME ON THE FLEET!

Ill be getting text updates on this one whilst at MK :)

How stupid, you want to be a part of this club yet the first difficult decision you have to make you decide to abstain??  Thank fuck people like you aren't in control of our club.  I'd be so pissed off with all of this if I were an Ebbsfleet fan.

And I agree with Tans, surely as owners you need to know who the buying club is?

Surely as owners you should be told the exact details of the deal and who the bidding club(s) are and how much is being offered along with incentives.

So if this players put in a tfer request as he wants to move to L1 do the 'owners' get a vote on whether to accept it.....pathetic

Looks like Bristol City ...

http://www.thisisbristol.co.uk/wdp/sport/City-poised-snap-teenage-striker-Akinde/article-295181-detail/article.html

Bristol City boss Gary Johnson was last night understood to be closing in on a deal to sign highly-rated Ebbsfleet United striker John Akinde, writes James McNamara.
A host of clubs have been chasing Akinde's signature and Ebbsfleet confirmed yesterday that a bid had been tabled.
I understand that City have won the race to sign Akinde, aged 19, after talks with Johnson at Ashton Gate yesterday.
The teenager has scored two goals for the Kent club so far this season.
One factor in the move has been the need for it to receive approval from Ebbsfleet's owners.
The club is owned by fans who belong to the website www.myfootballclub.co.uk, who took over the club earlier this year. More than 20,000 members have an equal say in the club's decisions.
But Akinde could be unveiled by City as early as this afternoon.

So by abstaining Fatbury has contributed to Bristol City signing a player.

Absolutely spot on

all the hoo-ha he made about it last year makes his abstinence kind of silly doesnt it ?

I havent actually voted at all yet ... I was steering towards abstaining because although it made good business sense to sell - my heart wanted him to stay with the club - but I knew I should be voting in favour ...

However now I know its Bristol City .. has to be REJECT ! YAY!

Fatbury in one day you're highlighting why this is really a bad a idea.  Like I said before if I was an Ebbsfleet supporter I'd be so worried about these people being in control of "my" club.  You're making Diamandis look like a saint.

The reality is .. that the majority of voters on here vote with their heads .. Akinde WILL be sold - the club will benefit to the tune of £140,000 plus and sell on clause (trust me he will be sold for more one day!) and this will help with debts accrued during the season and allow an extra and much needed central midfielder to be bought.

Hopefully Pook!!

I am bigging him up big time on their forums!!

The wisdom of crowds does actually appear to work - there are problems at times but so far so good for Ebbsfleet - especially when members raise money to sign players as in the £20000 signing of Gash ... its an intriguing experiment and even if it fails Ebbsfleet will be better off at the end of it .. as they will have gained some fans for life ...

I had heard that it was Stockport who were bidding, though if the above is true then I am guilty of spreading untruths to the forum.

Sorry about that everyone.

Quote from: BBC
f you recall almost 7,500 members of Fleet's owners myfootballclub.co.uk took part in a vote to decide whether they should sell him, with 82.3% voting in favour

Looks like your procrastination was insignificant then Fatters. Phew.

Wonder how many suckers will renew?!

To be fair by supporting all the clubs in the league (and non-league) atleast his team can never lose
