Not at all Bushey, you are paying respect to a young life.  Anyone who think that is funny is a prize twat.

I get a bit of 'grit in the eye' when this kind of thing happens. It''s my worst fear as a parent and you can't help but feel for the lads and their families even though I almost certainly don't know them.

RIP little fella.

Heard it on Radio 2 this morning, awful news.
One six-year-old dead and the other seriously injured, is that still the latest news? Here's hoping the second lad pulls through.

Better?

Cheers Sam, I wasn't being funny mate, just the way this has turned out I didn't think it was appropriate.  I hate stuff like this, 6 years old, jeez, you can't help thinking about your own family when you hear about this sort of stuff!!

Bushey I get what you're saying but I do think we're all close enough to this, it's an absolute tragedy.  Fair enough though.

From the reports I've read it seems that the driver of the 55A had little to no chance to do anything about it, thoughts are with him and his family too.

Very true about the driver Janaage, he will be reflecting for the rest of his life, 'could I have missed those lads'.
This is such a sad case, so many questions to ask: Why were they crossing the road on their own being one.

Sounds from the Adver story that the kids ran out from behind another parked bus. The driver wouldn't have had any chance of avoiding them.

Quote
A YOUNG boy died after he was hit by a double decker bus in Westlea last night.

Another boy is being treated in hospital for serious injuries, but it is not yet known whether they are life-threatening.

The accident took place on Westlea Drive just past Risingham Mead opposite a playground at 8pm.

Eyewitnesses reported how they saw a boy run into the road from behind a stationary single-decker bus straight into the path of another oncoming bus.

He died at the scene.

Acting Inspector Joe Saunders, of the Northern Roads Policing Unit, said the incident involved a Stagecoach 55 bus.

"The bus was in collision with two children," Acting Insp Saunders said.

"As a result of the collision the five or six-year-old child sustained fatal injuries. "The other child, thought to be eight years old and from Toothill, sustained serious injuries and is currently being treated at the Great Western Hospital."

The road was closed off for six hours while accident investigators and vehicle examiners scoured the road.

It is believed both boys, whom police described as local, were on the other side of the road talking to friends when they crossed to go back to the park.

There were bus stops on either side of the road where the accident took place. It is thought that a single decker Thamesdown Transport bus heading towards the West Swindon District Centre had stopped to collect passengers on one side while the other bus went past, heading for the town centre.

Witnesses including bus passengers were spoken to at the scene and will be questioned further this morning.

The driver of the Stagecoach bus was said to be in shock following the fatality.

Sholto Thomas, operations director for Stagecoach West, who attended the scene, said: "He's very traumatised as you would expect and we feel for him as well.

"We have no comment to make on the incident.

"We're working with the police.

"The bus had CCTV and police are taking a copy of that in their inquiry."

Residents spoke of their horror in the aftermath of the tragedy, but said that it was common for children to tear across the bridge from Toothill to Westlea and cross the road without checking.

One nearby resident, who did not wish to be named, said that she had a near miss in her car three weeks ago on Westlea Drive when a boy on a bike shot out into the road from the direction of the bridge.

She said: "We just live round the corner and I heard a lot of sirens and knew it was close."

Karen Taylor, 44, of Benwell Close, said: "Kids do run out, but it's an awful tragedy."

Police are appealing for anyone who witnessed the incident to come forward and contact investigating officer PC Lockwood at the Northern Roads Policing Unit on 0845 408 7000.

i feel for the driver of the bus.were the children who are barely above toddlers out unsupervised?
if so the parents should be locked up and neutered.
an awful tragedy.

Sanchez and Arriba have touched on a problem of young children who are allowed to play out late and unsupervised.  It was only three years ago that I was a witness to a fatality on Corton Crescent again a young boy and again very late at night.
Although to be fair both accidents could of happened any time of the day.
Maybe bringing the speed limit down to 10 miles an hour 50 yards either side of the bridge is the answer.
Do schools still teach the highway code?
In my limited experience in this dreadful problem.  It seems to me that children from council estates seem to be at more risk to these accidents.
My prayers go to the parents, driver and witnesses, I can only hope they find the strength to cope.

I know what you mean, although im not a Westlea resident at all. Its one of the schools I have coached in before.

Everytime an accident like this happens I dread reading that its some child I have coached before. Not that I'd know them or their family that well, just different if you can actually put a name to the face if that makes sense.

Not that its any less of a tradegy if it isnt someone I know, still horrible, horrible news...

R.I.P
