Title: Job Interviews Post by: Power to people on Tuesday, August 5, 2008, 16:21:53 I have a job interview tomorrow, what are the sort of questions that potential employers expect to be asked, I can never really think of anything other than money, hours and courses so any tips appreciated.
Title: Re: Job Interviews Post by: suttonred on Tuesday, August 5, 2008, 16:28:06 Research the company as far as poss on the web tonight. ask about future internal opportunities and their CPD plan (continuing professional development) scheme
Title: Re: Job Interviews Post by: janaage on Tuesday, August 5, 2008, 16:28:51 Would you ever shag a women with a wooden leg?
When they think long and hard about it and say "yeah, if she was fit" (which is what most people say) Reply "I wouldn't, I'd use my cock!". That'll get 'em interested. You will have their attention. Title: Re: Job Interviews Post by: Lash_sumthin on Tuesday, August 5, 2008, 16:39:14 Depends on the type of job but
I'd highly recommend this book http://www.amazon.co.uk/Successful-Interviews-Every-Time-Yeung/dp/1857039785/ref=sr_1_20?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1217954191&sr=1-20 a lot of companies are moving towards objective based questioning often asking for examples of particular situations etc and as suggested read up about the company Title: Re: Job Interviews Post by: Samdy Gray on Tuesday, August 5, 2008, 16:47:25 Never ask about money. But if they ask you what you're looking for, just say "Well, what can you offer me?".
Title: Re: Job Interviews Post by: Samdy Gray on Tuesday, August 5, 2008, 16:48:51 And is it a big company? If not, ask them what the company's plans for growth are. That one always goes down a treat IMO, makes you seem interested.
Title: Re: Job Interviews Post by: Sippo on Tuesday, August 5, 2008, 17:52:54 How as the position arisen, are there opportunities for promotion?, ask questions about the role, and what it entails.
Title: Re: Job Interviews Post by: ST_INC on Tuesday, August 5, 2008, 18:54:05 Ask the interviewer
"in your opinion, what is the best thing about working for this company" Sit back and watch him shit himself. Title: Re: Job Interviews Post by: janaage on Tuesday, August 5, 2008, 19:13:14 Ha ha good one Inc!
Title: Re: Job Interviews Post by: Power to people on Tuesday, August 5, 2008, 19:40:02 Interesting....I suspect I won't do a lot of research as I'm not too bothered if I get it or not though
Title: Re: Job Interviews Post by: michael on Tuesday, August 5, 2008, 20:25:44 You could ask them if they operate a 'last in, first out' policy.
Could help you make your own mind up, in this day and age. Title: Re: Job Interviews Post by: strooood on Wednesday, August 6, 2008, 00:12:15 i got asked if i went down to the club shop and saw kolo toure what would you ask him.
and jens lehmann has just been sent off in the CL final, you bump into him in the tunnel, what 3 questions do you ask. prepare for these two and you're laughing. Title: Re: Job Interviews Post by: Power to people on Wednesday, August 6, 2008, 14:43:18 Is it professional to have a copy of your CV in front of you for when they ask you questions about it or are you epxected to know everything that is on there ?
Title: Re: Job Interviews Post by: janaage on Wednesday, August 6, 2008, 14:44:45 Nah, that's okay have your CV handy, don't think that's a test at all, use it as a reference.
Title: Re: Job Interviews Post by: Power to people on Wednesday, August 6, 2008, 14:46:38 Phew I was planning to do that and have a copy of their job spec in front of me as well....
Title: Re: Job Interviews Post by: Simon Pieman on Wednesday, August 6, 2008, 14:47:28 Why would you need your CV in front of you, unless it was complete bullshit?
Title: Re: Job Interviews Post by: janaage on Wednesday, August 6, 2008, 14:48:49 For reference. I don't see it as a negative to have it handy at all, actually if you have it in a professional looking folder or something similar it can look pretty good.
Title: Re: Job Interviews Post by: Power to people on Wednesday, August 6, 2008, 14:49:42 So when they ask question you can refer to what they are talking about....
I've had a question before asking to talk them through me CV and I forget what I listed for the jobs I've had..I don't list Bullshit on my CV as you can get caught out Title: Re: Job Interviews Post by: suttonred on Wednesday, August 6, 2008, 14:51:06 Shows thoroughness in my book, never look at it as a negative when i interview. Saves keep showing bits you're referring to, to the candidate.
Title: Re: Job Interviews Post by: janaage on Wednesday, August 6, 2008, 14:53:14 I think most people accept that interviews aren't always the nicest most relaxed chats and some people may forget every detail they put down. Having a copy for yourself is fine.
Title: Re: Job Interviews Post by: Samdy Gray on Wednesday, August 6, 2008, 15:01:33 Having a copy is fine and if there's more than one interviewer then give them each a copy, but when they ask you the "Can you give me an example of...?" questions then don't just refer to your CV for an answer.
Title: Re: Job Interviews Post by: Lumps on Wednesday, August 6, 2008, 15:01:44 Having notes in an interview, and as Jan says neatly presented and organised, never looks like a bad thing. It makes you look serious about the job, as if you've prepared for it adequately. I've seen people make notes during the interview, and it's helped them answer some questions really thoroughly.
I present a lot in my job, and a lot of the time I don't use notes. But I always HAVE them. Because then it doesn't look like your winging it, and you don't look an arse when someone asks a question and you lose your chain of thought. Just make sure you don't spend the whole interview looking at them. Eye contact's very important. Title: Re: Job Interviews Post by: Simon Pieman on Wednesday, August 6, 2008, 15:14:53 Having a copy is fine and if there's more than one interviewer then give them each a copy, but when they ask you the "Can you give me an example of...?" questions then don't just refer to your CV for an answer. See that was my assumption really, probably because it's my sort of style to learn a 2 page summarised document inside out. But like Lumps says, I guess that could go the other way and look a bit like you're blagging it. Title: Re: Job Interviews Post by: Power to people on Wednesday, August 6, 2008, 16:49:44 Ohh well that went well....or not I don't know !
I don't think he asked me enough.... Title: Re: Job Interviews Post by: Don Rogers Shop on Wednesday, August 6, 2008, 16:57:26 I always like to ask where they expect me to be in 2 years time within the company and also ask what direction they see the company going in in the forseable future.
A mate of mine got asked once that if he walked in and his boss was wearing a dress what would he do? my mate said shag him Title: Re: Job Interviews Post by: suttonred on Wednesday, August 6, 2008, 18:14:21 Did he get the job?
Title: Re: Job Interviews Post by: Don Rogers Shop on Thursday, August 7, 2008, 16:32:10 No he got offered it but did not want to work for him which is fair enough really.
