Title: Ben Joyce
Post by: STFC_Gazzza on Monday, August 4, 2008, 21:04:13
This kid looks very lively and reminds me a bit of a decent Jamie Cureton (height size, goal poacher etc...) not that sack of shit we had here.

May sound really daft but I would not be at all surprised if he is our second top scorer (maybe next season not this). He seems to know where the net is... can it transform to league play who knows? Looks promising though... I hope he is not one who goes to a premier league side and gets a go in the first team for a bit.

He is probably a bit too young but think he will be a top player for us in the not so distant future

I agree gaz, This kid has something about him.For his age, His movement is great, he's brilliant with his back to goal with the ball into his feet and he can finish. I would like to him being our 4th striker this year, and think he should replace Cox should he ever be out, as the two big men up front doesn't work particularly well.

I'd love to hold on to him and watch him get 5 or 6 this season and then go on and do really well the season after that.

Unfortunately I've not seen him play. What is he like? Is he a mobile type who pressurises defences?  Any good in the air?  I suppose the last home grown scorer we had was Lukas & before that Paul Rideout.  Anyway I hope to find out myself Saturday

You be mixing up your Pilgrims.

Boston are the real pilgrims - that's where they really set sail for the Americas.

Tis true...the original settlers in Jamestown, can be traced to Lincolnshire.

The Boston site...

anyway it's irrelevant really, he isn't home-grown talent but I think he could be one of the better ones from the youth setup. Looks like we're getting a few decent players from it.

I can see Joyce coming into the fray sooner rather than later. Did well tonight.

I think we can see why AF got them signed up, as every time one steps up they do well, someone has a good eye.

He will obviously play some part saturday then he came on after half hour and got subbed so i would imagine he is on the bench for saturday. i like the way he drops short allowing midfielders to bomb forward. this is what paynter tries doing when he should be in the box

Joyce had a good game last night, and as was said by somebody else, if Cox is out for a match it'd be worth playing Joyce with a target man next to him. Not sure Cox and Joyce would work as a partnership though

Not sure about that, as the tendency in L1 is for two big brutes at the back, two smaller forwards with pace, would cause them problems, as the high long ball would be dropped in favour of through passes, therfore negating aforementioned brutes.

At times it might work, Sturrock and Cox ran the arses of Nott Forsets back 4 last season, as they were given the right service.

At other times though when the rest of the team isnt playing that well we will need to rely on old fashoned brute force, not midget hoofball

Forest were awful against us weren't they, all of 'em crap.  Must have been one hell of an off day for them.  Good ol' CC, he knows where he's still loved.

I couldnt ever see Thorpe and Cureton working.

Wasnt it Sturrock and Paynter that ran the socks off Forest?

That's relying on our defence to avoid the hoofball...not likely!
