Title: SO... League One Predictions
Post by: STFC_Gazzza on Saturday, August 2, 2008, 08:47:27
Thought it would be fun or atleast something to do to choose your predictions for League One this season...

- AUTOMATIC PROMOTION
- RELEGATED
- WHERE SWINDON WILL FINISH

Title: Re: SO... League One Predictions
Post by: STFC_Gazzza on Saturday, August 2, 2008, 08:50:31
PROMOTED

Leeds United - Goes without saying I suppose....
Huddersfield - they will have a massive backing at home etc and a fairly decent squad this season

RELEGATED

Yeovil - Where are your strikers?
Cheltenham - Your shit
Bristol Rovers - Injuries will ensure they go down ;)
Crewe - They are fucked now they sold Maynard and havent brought anyone in to replace him

Swindon to finish between 10th-12th I think....

Leeds to win it - easily best team in the division last season, despite changing managers and style mid-season.

Leicester second - they are throwing money at it and signed a Bulgarian international I think.

Brighton through the play-offs - made some good signings and their new manager should see them good.

FYI, I will be backing the above predictions with cash.

Yeovil and Cheltenham to go down, not sure about who the other two will be as you can't discount a "Bournemouth" where a decent enough side gets dragged in due to points deductions.

Crewe away was posssibly the most boring game I saw last season and crap atmosphere.

Cheltenham will prob go down, not really sure about the others but can see Colchester doing a Crewe - dropping from the Championship and struggling the following season.

Couple of non swindon fan mates think we'll get top six.  Not sure to be honest but I'd say within top 8.

This is serious i think we will win the league.....the big boys will be there obviously and Colchester will do better than people expect, its going to be tough with Crewe,Hfield,Pboro and the M.K Dons all having decent sides,my dark horses would be Milllllllllllllllllllllllllllllwall.

Sorry, Crewe having a decent side? They didnt do very well last season and since then they've sold their top scorer.

we will be top six

Crewe had a bad season with injuries last year Nemo....they will be in the top ten,and with 2.2 mill in the bank will probably spend a fair bit as the season progresses...only my opinion i know alot of people think they are bottom 4 material.

What mex said but top 4.

Title: Re: SO... League One Predictions

As boring as it may be, Leeds and Leicester isn't a bad bet for the top 2.
I expect Brighton to be up there, but I'd say all 4 play-off places are there for the taking for anybody who wants them really.

As for relegation, I can see Stockport struggling, and Yeovil and Cheltenham are good bets to go down.

I expect us to finish in the 6th-10th region. Making the play-offs would be a great achievement this season, and I'm glad to see we're not getting carried away with talk about promotion! Although a decent enough 1-0 win against Tranmere would probably set all that off!

As we've found though having a few quid to spend doesn't mean anything, it's very hard to get players to swap this year, and it may be that they will use to pay the bills, so i still think crewe will be bottom 4.

Title: Re: SO... League One Predictions

Does Rodney Jack still play for Crewe? He was ace. I used to like watching crewe play Swindon back in the day.

1. Leeds United
2. Leicester City
P. Huddersfield Town
9. Swindon Town
R. Leyton Orient
R. Hereford United
R. Crewe Alexandra
R. Cheltenham Town

Expect Franchise and Peterborough to be up there... I think they'll just miss out. Also, it's hard to predict the relegation places as all it takes is a team to go into administration and a crap team is all of a sudden saved!

Title: Re: SO... League One Predictions

1. leeds
2. Huddersfield
----------
3. Oldham
4. Peterborough
5. Carlisle
6. Leicester (P)

8. swindon

-----------
21. walsall
22. Stockport
23. yeovil
24. cheltenham

I can see Leicester having a bit of an initial struggle coming to terms with the league and I suspect we'll see things open up a lot more similar to the Chump-ship this season where this not a lot between the playoffs and relegation spots.

Hereford won't go down. If anything they'll probably finish higher than us. A handy squad they have. Yeovil and Cheltenham are dead certs though.

I don't ever predict positions. I just have a pop at who i think will struggle and who i think will do well. Personally the fuss over Posh and MK is a bit OTT. Think they'll be mid-table at best. Leeds will only make the play-offs and again are over rated and over hyped. Top 2 will probably be Huddersfield and some other random team that no one expects. Probably Oldham or Tranmere.

Everyone...or pretty much everyone must know Gary Breen as well. We all dream of a team of Gary Breens as Coventry used to sing.

The man with no name Clint Easton! cue singing waa waa wa wa waaaaa

Otherwise they are pretty much a team with little known players  who I think will struggle big time this season. Not many new player, no money, no fans and a fucking annoying manager/chairman.

442 (good interview Gary, btw) thinks there are only 3 teams out there with poorer odds than us - Crewe, Cheltenham and some other team I can't remember.  Admittedly, there are several other sides also on 40-1 odds with us, but seems a little downbeat to me.  Think we'll be solidly mid table with a shout of making the play offs if Nalis delivers and if we manage not to rely completely on Cox for goals.

Leeds will walk it.  Brighton or Huddersfield for the other automatic promotion place.  Crewe, Cheltenham and Walsall to go down.  No idea who the final relegated team will be...but will be praying regulerly for this slot to be filled by the McFranchise.

I have to say that I looked at their squad and didn't think a great deal of it... They have a weak strikeforce which they'll hit the loan market to improve.

Which they have done again this time. And they play good football so i'm told. They'll be a lot worse sides in this league trust me. Teams like Yeovil and Cheltenham for a start.

I agree. 40-1! We did have major problems back end of last season though, and I hope Swindon players know that the bookies rate them 40-1 because that really is an indictment of how they played back end of last season. Yes we improved but it was not good enough.

Title: Re: SO... League One Predictions

I don't think 40-1 is unfair. We've not done anything to say "we are Swindon and this is our season" but hopefully that can work in our favour.

3rd. Southend
4th. Brighton
5th. Tranmere (P)
6th. Leicester

21. Crewe
22. Millwall
23. Yeovil
24. Cheltenham
