Just read in the local paper(newbury weekly news) an interview with AF that all Swindon reserve games to be played at Hungerford Towns Bulpit Lane ground, also youth players to be loaned to Hungerford to get experience.

Apologies if this has already been posted elsewhere just can not remember seeing it on OS or any forums, to be honest I think it is a good idea to limit the games played on the CG pitch.

No haven't seen that elsewhere, must be recent. Bloody hell the NWN has done something on Swindon. Bloody turncoats normally just do the plastics now.

Yesterdays copy it only comes out once a week on a Thursday, I never bother looking at the sport but I had a quick glance this morning and it was the main headline on the back page ,an interview with AF and a preview to tonights game where AF says it will be a pretty strong side.

Fantastic idea not only saves the pitch but we may pick up a few of their fans if they happen to go and watch the reserves, they just maybe tempted to come to the CG and watch the real thing.Sounds like a good way of trying to bring in new fans from certain catchment areas around hungerford.

slightly annoying that if your not in work in the afternoon when the reserves are playing usually you can just pop along to the CG with it just being up the road, with it being in Hungerford then you'll have to plan to go rather than leave it until the last minute.

I can sort of see why they are doing it though  - to preserve the pitch which makes sense.

It would have to be a census of Swindon fans who are regularly not in work on a midweek afternoon? So, Ben, are you closer to the CG or Hungerford?

I dont, but as i'm 100 miles from the CG, it doesn't make any difference!

Where's hungerford?

I used to quite often wander down for the Wednesday afternoon friendlies when I was at New College. It was always either that or 3hours of maths. I rarely attended maths.

 I like popping down to the CG for the odd reserve game...they're a bit infrequent though now.....the likes of Plymuff I'm sure will appreciate the extra mileage.

Not far down the M4 Eastbound.....certainly not walking distance!

I used to live a matter of yards away from Central Park in Plymouth - They used to play their Reserves games at Home Park - I remember one season looking at their fixture list and seeing that the Swindon reserve game was one of only two reserve games to be played at Tiverton's ground.

I was unnecessarily fuming, so fuck em... they can travel the extra :D

I guess it's a generational thing but I still can't see or here the name Hungerford without a mental image of "nutter in a beanie hat with firearms" coming to mind.

Do the younger members of the forum have this association or do you have to have been around to have seen it on the news?

 I've walked from Hungerford to Swindon....6-7 hour walk.

  Quite a pleasant route...along the K and A for a bit, over to Ramsbury, then some paths and a bit of quiet lane past teh enigmatic Lewisham Castle.....on to just past Snap and then a variety of routes back to Swindon.

 I did a long one near to Barbury, but the old railway via Chisledon is decent and probably shorter and quicker.

Not-so-proud to say but Fact - he was a relation to my step-mum (cousin I think).

I was in Hungerford on my way from Thatcham to Swindon 1 hour before Ryan lost it.

I wasn't even 4 years old when it happened but it's the only thing I associate with Hungerford.

I played football for Hungerford at the time, at Bulpit lane in fact. Was only 8 or something though so don't remember it too well.
