Title: Sky Help
Post by: blinkpip on Monday, July 28, 2008, 14:50:37
Right, my Sky is playing up, the signal keeps coming and going and the picture keeps fucking up.  >:(

We have 3 rooms connected to Sky and mine is the only one playing up. Cables haven't been touched, and everything is connected alright.

I got a worring feeling it's my box (it is 9 years old) Can I just go out and buy a new box and plug in and go?

Nothing blocking the dish, as the other rooms work perfect.

The signal Strength is very low on mine and high on the rest.

I was thinking about upgrading to sky+ JFW, but I don't like the Sky engineers putting it in, they made a mess to my telephone line last time (had to repair it my self) and they're not very neat.

I might try my box in another room, if it doesn't work then ebay or sky+ it is.

boo.

Ville Valo, If you have a Panasonic the tuners are well known to give up with age (TSB30 model I think). I assume you have swapped your sky boxes over (non working with a working one) to show that the fault follows the box and is not an LNB issue?

New (second hand) box is probably best bet,  I guess the other option is to get a Sky call out (at £65 IIRC) as they will fix whatever it is with 3 months warranty.

If you have premium channels on the broken Sky box (sports, movies, pay for  standalone channels) you will probably need to get your old viewing cared paired with the new 9replacement) box. I don't know if there is an automated way to do this or whether you need to call Sky CS. Probably the latter.

I turns out that the Sky box was on its way out. It kept working for a while, when I tried it in other rooms.

I looked at second hand boxes on ebay, but the latest boxes were going for around £50-£70.

So I went with JFW idea haggled with Sky and got a half price sky+ box and installation.

cheers for all help.

All that matters is Dave is still 111 and Sky Sports is 401.
