Title: Pitch & tidy up Post by: Power to people on Saturday, July 19, 2008, 15:34:46 Didn't the pitch look good last night, looks like new goal posts and netting as well as it is striped red now
The edges of the pitch looked nice and neat and I think it looked better without the advertising boards there, but obviously they are going to return, nice and full I hope. It was also nice to see the new sign on the Arkells and the side of it painted red, makes the ground look that bit neater as well. Looks much better than it has for years that's for sure. Only grumble is the size of the food queues and they haven't cleaned the seats yet like they normally do every year so you end up sitting on a seat with dried on mud from last season, I'm sure things like this will be sorted for the Tranmere game as well though....Rome wasn't built in a day - apparently ! ;D And it is a shame the away section seats have not been painted red to blend in I know little moans and in the grand scheme of things are tiny but if you don't meantion then nobody knows ! Title: Re: Pitch & tidy up Post by: leefer on Saturday, July 19, 2008, 15:42:32 Didnt go last night as i finished work late...sounded a good game and fair play to Harry for bringing such a strong team..i think the food huts need sorting, the Town End food is dire, like you said theres always a few things that take a moan and a groan to iron out.
Title: Re: Pitch & tidy up Post by: Luci on Saturday, July 19, 2008, 16:54:14 I think wait until the season gets underway properly before moaning about the food and queues, sure we'll see some improvement.
Title: Re: Pitch & tidy up Post by: The Grim Reaper on Saturday, July 19, 2008, 18:19:31 Watkins said in the matchday programme that the improvements will not be complete until mid August. Still gives a month to sort out a few things. The away end of the Arkell's seats will be made red but the priority was given to the rest of the stand.
Title: Re: Pitch & tidy up Post by: Batch on Saturday, July 19, 2008, 18:27:52 Was also nice to see something for the kids last night, the fair ride and 'win a teddy stall' outside the ground and the jugglers inside.
OK, not relevant for most of us, but if it gets Jr to badger mum and dad to go again then it's good. Only pity was the game was possibly a bit late for some of the younger ones. Not that it matters too much. Title: Re: Pitch & tidy up Post by: Don Rogers Shop on Sunday, July 20, 2008, 14:45:34 Was also nice to see something for the kids last night, the fair ride and 'win a teddy stall' outside the ground and the jugglers inside. Speak for yourself mate that teddy bear stall was brilliant.OK, not relevant for most of us, but if it gets Jr to badger mum and dad to go again then it's good. Only pity was the game was possibly a bit late for some of the younger ones. Not that it matters too much. Title: Re: Pitch & tidy up Post by: Leggett on Sunday, July 20, 2008, 19:04:50 the advertising hoardings have gone forever, the old style ones the players had to leap over if they ran too fast off the pitch, they're just gonna have the advertising boards around the stadium on the barriers of the stands (if you can see what i mean). thats a pretty poor description but i'm tired, had a long day :(
Title: Re: Pitch & tidy up Post by: strooood on Monday, July 21, 2008, 11:08:21 i saw the highlights on SSN and the pitch looked like fucking wembley.
bravo triseros Title: Re: Pitch & tidy up Post by: Power to people on Monday, July 21, 2008, 12:48:47 Anyone know if they are planning on improving the PA System, it is still crap it was a shame that when they bought Hazard onto the pitch thouse of us in the DR Stand couldn't hear what he was talking about properly I was only catching bits of his chat
Title: Re: Pitch & tidy up Post by: Batch on Monday, July 21, 2008, 12:54:44 I though the DR had good PA, is it broken, or has it always been like that?
Title: Re: Pitch & tidy up Post by: DV on Monday, July 21, 2008, 12:56:37 Its always been shit.
Its odd though, when I walk to football I walk down the cycle path that goes down the back of DR and towards Greenbridge....along that path I can hear the PA system fine!!! In the toilets, the PA system is also fine In the stand, you cant make out a thing!!! Title: Re: Pitch & tidy up Post by: janaage on Monday, July 21, 2008, 13:04:46 Is it not to do with the angle of the speakers? I don't think they positioned them very well acoustically, although I'm no expert on the subject.
Title: Re: Pitch & tidy up Post by: Batch on Monday, July 21, 2008, 13:07:16 Everyone bring egg boxes to the next game and we'll sort out the acoustics.
Title: Re: Pitch & tidy up Post by: janaage on Monday, July 21, 2008, 13:07:23 Actually in true tannoy style that last post should have read
I i no do wih th ngle of the sp ers? I on't thi the posit them very ll acoustically, though I' no ex on the subject Title: Re: Pitch & tidy up Post by: Reg Smeeton on Monday, July 21, 2008, 13:28:46 Let's face it....the makeover has been minimal. Still looks pretty much like the CG I know and love...getting rid of the picket fences was a good move, but the advertising boards still look on a par with Highworth Town.
The pitch always looks good at the start of the season....there are underlying long term problems which will probably cost 500K + to ameliorate, to my knowledge these haven't been addressed. What the new regime have done so far is worthy, but they surely must realise the extent of the problems with what they've taken on. It's perhaps fair to say they've arrested the decline, but it will take an awful of effort and investment to get forward momentum. Title: Re: Pitch & tidy up Post by: Batch on Monday, July 21, 2008, 13:42:02 i guess any money spent now is to a large extent dead money if/when we decide to redevelop or move.
Title: Re: Pitch & tidy up Post by: Reg Smeeton on Monday, July 21, 2008, 13:49:27 i guess any money spent now is to a large extent dead money if/when we decide to redevelop or move. It's a fair point...can't see anything happening on that front for many a day. Economic recession. Title: Re: Pitch & tidy up Post by: Batch on Monday, July 21, 2008, 13:58:10 True, the investment may be a bit hard to come by I suppose. Look at Rovers.
Title: Re: Pitch & tidy up Post by: Reg Smeeton on Tuesday, July 22, 2008, 08:54:12 True, the investment may be a bit hard to come by I suppose. Look at Rovers. Look at the New Swindon Company...tasked with a town centre regeneration, so far seems to have produced some notable holes in the ground....and a hideous shed at Hawksworth. Title: Re: Pitch & tidy up Post by: @MacPhlea on Tuesday, July 22, 2008, 09:01:39 Didn't the pitch look good last night, looks like new goal posts and netting as well as it is striped red now The netting has been striped red for over 4 years now - they are the nets and stansions that I bought in exchange for a VIP day on my 40th - they are being replaced this year with plain white ones... The pitch stood up to the first game better than last year and if you think it looked good against Title: Re: Pitch & tidy up Post by: janaage on Tuesday, July 22, 2008, 09:05:20 Southampton??? Title: Re: Pitch & tidy up Post by: ron dodgers on Tuesday, July 22, 2008, 12:04:53 I love the horticultural updates - nice forks lads.
Do you think we'll get a mole attack? Little bastards with their cute twitchy noses and spade-like front paws; denizens of the deep and scourge of all lawn masters. Title: Re: Pitch & tidy up Post by: Batch on Tuesday, July 22, 2008, 12:43:25 Talking of tidy ups, what did you think of the new look program then.
I thought it was aright myself. Plus it has the added advantage of the non-standard size screwing up programme collectors. They are bound to have ring binder, or wallets or something. mwhahahaha. Title: Re: Pitch & tidy up Post by: @MacPhlea on Tuesday, July 22, 2008, 12:47:47 I love the horticultural updates - nice forks lads. Do you think we'll get a mole attack? Little bastards with their cute twitchy noses and spade-like front paws; denizens of the deep and scourge of all lawn masters. I also look after the cricket pitch at the back of my house in Compton Bassett and had a spate of Moles about a month ago - unfortunately for them I worked out there pattern and duly dispatched all of them with my Beretta in the space of about 3 days... It's quite difficult for moles to get in the CG without a ticket these days but the Beretta's on stand by if needed... Handy tip... Moles are easy to locate when they are working - the darkest mound is generally the freshest and the one where they are pushing soil - be patient and watch it for about 10 minutes and when the soil starts to move shoot the mound on the bottom edge of the pile :bye: Title: Re: Pitch & tidy up Post by: Jamiesfuturewife on Tuesday, July 22, 2008, 12:49:48 You live in Compton Bassett? Very positive, investments are being spent wisely, although we are looking for sponsors to supply wet weather clothing and other items to see us through the season. The grass is definately greener on the F&Co side of the fence :D Title: Re: Pitch & tidy up Post by: @MacPhlea on Tuesday, July 22, 2008, 12:54:56 You live in Compton Bassett? I never knew that!! Hell yeah! Been there 6 years this year - I'm almost classed as a legal immigrant now! Mind you the house and dogs are in a bit of a mess! bomb site! The pitch stood up to the first game better than last year and if you think it looked good against I quite liked it striped Red and white (shows how much notice I've taken over the years) as it is obviously blends in with the rest of the ground Title: Re: Pitch & tidy up Post by: @MacPhlea on Tuesday, July 22, 2008, 13:02:44 Thats funny cause I thought I had seen you in my (I say My its not actually mine) sports centre before??? Fact of the day: Moles do not exist in Ireland. That's a corking fact...if only the IRA had realised they could saved on a lot of kneecapping. Title: Re: Pitch & tidy up Post by: Phil_S on Wednesday, July 23, 2008, 16:29:25 Nor do snakes. Is that beacuse moles eat snakes, or is it because the snakes ate all the moles & then died due to lack of food ?
Title: Re: Pitch & tidy up Post by: Arnold.J.Rimmer on Wednesday, July 23, 2008, 16:51:05 I think St George killed them all.
