Title: Hampton Pubs and directions
Post by: alanmayes on Tuesday, July 15, 2008, 13:25:18
For anybody contemplating attending the friendly with Hampton & Richmond FC (Tues 22nd)
i thought i'd try to help, as i know the area and a friend of mine lives in Hampton.

If you're travelling from the West, then the best route will be via the M3 exiting at the Sunbury
Junction (Junction 1).Follow the signs A308 Hampton Court, Kingston. Please be aware that there
are currently road works for about 1 mile before Sunbury,50 mph speed limit and outside lane closed.

Once you're on the A308 as long as you pass Kempton Park Racecourse on you left hand side,
you're going in the right direction!

Approaching Hampton, you will see as a landmark, the Church Tower.Just before there, turn left
into the High St.You will see the restaurant 'Riverside Indian Cuisine' on the corner.

Turn directly left again, into Station Rd and proceed until you see 'Kingsbury Motors' on the left.
Directly opposite, is a large sign for 'Hampton and Richmond FC'.You can't turn into here!

Pubs

The best pub is the 'Worlds End,' which is about 100 metres, right handside after the football ground
and police station. You can't fail to see it, as it has hanging flower baskets and is a free house!

It advertises that if has "the best beer garden in Hampton" but in reality it isn't very big.If you
get as far as the village green, you've gone too far! It also serves food.

'The Bell Inn'  is on the main A308, just beside the church tower and turning for the High St.If you want a
pint beside the Thames, then this would be your choice, but there's no parking.Food is also served here.

Hampton is a nice place and for those who want a day or afternoon out,you could visit Hampton Court,
which is a couple of miles past Hampton or Thorpe Park (M25 Junction 11 Chertsey)

I know that we're unlikely to put out a very strong team, but it might be worth a visit to a up and coming
footballing team, managed by Alan Devonshire (West Ham).

Hope this helps.

For those who dont want to stop off there is a bar in the ground, and last year you could have a beer throughout the game, you could also have a crafty smoke out by the turnstile. Word of caution if you are driving, parking is limited at the ground, and you'll have to be early to beat me there!

and for the sane ones who wouldnt dream of travelling to such a naff friendly can I suggest 8 cans of Strongbow for £6.00 from almost everywhere and a seat in your back garden

Ageed if you're in Wiltshire, but it's only 25 mins drive from where i live, so may as well take a peek.

Probably 1 hour 45 if you can get on the motorway before the queues
