sounds like a bit of a long shot - hes very young but has a good background at Standard Liege - worth a trial ... makes you wonder why Nicho wasnt kept on tho doesnt it?

Just the six appearances for his club but then he's only 21. Could be a gamble tbh.

I was more concerned with immediate negativity than the sentiment of what the guy was saying as I do agree to some extent but then again if the young british talent keeps turning us down then if he turns out to be the next Toure or Eboue then i am not going to complain.

Because it had been established over the course of 5 years that he was mildly rubbish?

If you want to watch him lunging in and looking very one-footed but quick and strong - why not watch his agent's video here...

If the videos are anything to go by he looks very very one footed but incredibly strong and speedy and quick witted.

I like the look of him, from that anyway! who knows what his moments of right footedness on the ball are like!

Gotta be worth a gamble IMO looks like he could be fun to watch at least!

As for the THISIS site, I am totally appalled by some of the comments on there, totally unbelieveable, TBH I dont know why I waste my time reading the comments some of our fans are so bloody narrow minded.

JJ - I have to agree with you on the comments on thisis - this is an air of negativity on there that confounds any real logic - except for the fact that they obviously dont like Malpas and are looking for any reason at all to moan about him.

Havent they realised hes the magic man yet? I expect a rabbit to be pulled out of the hat at the last moment :)

Oh come on guys, the thisis comments section has been invaded with some twat on a wind up with multiple aliases. Used to be called "red army", gets banned, rejoins.

I don't think the average person think like that.

The comment from REDFRED is quite clearly a windup. At this rate i can see the youngsters having to step up this year, Joyce, Morrison, Allen, etc.

From the looks of those three though i think they can do it. The lack of activity could be a blessing in disguise, or is that just me being over optimistic?

About time they actually did some moderating on there, they should also bring in an IQ test before you can post, that would stop half of them in their tracks.

Having a dig at Malpas for taking English jobs? Twat.

Were British mate get over it.

To be fair I would rather have British players. But then as we saw with Commingues and Brez there are diamonds out there. Obviously it all ends with us getting screwed by their agents, but still.

Fair play to you Lambourn, that site is getting a little above it's station, people are using it to just let off steam.  If the club reads that crap on that site it can hardly be good for morale.

This tour is a perfect opportunity to look at European trialists - top quality opposition (even if it's Fenerbache reserves it'll be decent) and all that.

According to someone I know Oduro is from the Ivory Coast, not Ghana. And he is nowhere near the national side either!

Also, he has been released by his club so would be available on a free.

Akwasi Oduro (° 08/08/1987) is a Belgian defender of Ghanaian descent who currently plays for K.S.K. Beveren. He emigrated to Belgium when he was ten and started playing for Gierle and F.C. Turnhout. At the age of 14 he moved to Standard de Liège. In 2006 he moved to the first team of Beveren where he played 4 matches in his first season.

If he was flirting with either the Ghana or Ivory Coast national teams his agent would be looking for better than 3rd tier of English football for a trial.

Let's wait and see and hope he's decent.

and this Ghana football website thinks he's from their homeland too.

I have just watched the video on youtube and not that he seems quick and passes the ball along the floor. Entirely the opposite of Jamie Vincent there then.

Another thing I've discovered from watching this is that I think I prefer watching football with music playing, than having to listen to commentary.

As already said, Miguel Comminges Mk II? (Except a left footed version  ;) ) Snap him up!
This guy and Mcnamee on the left side would be a joy to watch imo.

It doesn't show you how bad he is though does it. He could have the marking abilitys of a blind man, and he could get sent off every other game. You wont know just by one best of video

Exactly - I take that sort of footage with a pinch of salt. Encouraging that YouTube doesn't have a "Oduro fiasco montage" though - he'd have a shitty agent if there was!

Title: Re: Akwasi Oduro from FC KSK Beveren

Well apparently he's only played a handful of games, and at left back he'd only be on the ball a small amount each game, so by my reckoning this 8 minutes on youtube is his entire first team football career, and there are no bad bits.

Sign him up.

Dave i know what your saying but it shows hes quick, strong and powerful, he has good attributes, marking and positioning can be taught, (Assuming they are his weak points, altho Miguels positioning was poor and he was mint!)
Like Wenger does with the likes of Eboue and Diaby etc, they have the speed, strengh etc the good basic attributes then gets them playing how he wants his team to play

Yeah i know what you're saying Dave, and i guess you have every right to be pessimistic, but we shall see. Malpas has said he's so far looked promising in training, so lets hope it works out :)

Haha! That's slightly harsh i feel. Vincent has been a steady, yet not overly exciting, defender since we signed him. Yeah he lacks the creativity side of things that maybe this Oduso player may contain, but he does keep things simple and rarely puts a foot wrong really. Plus he's fairly versatile, which is a plus side.

If this Ghanian bloke does sign on, i reckon he'll be a good player to bring off the bench in place of Vincent, when opposition wingers/full backs are knackered. That's judging from the footage of him leggin it up the wing however.

I hope you mean purely as a left back, because to disregard and discredit Vincents role in the team when he filled in for the injured Adie Williams at Centre Back in our promotion season would just be wrong.

I can't believe the bashing Vincent gets. I agree that he's crap going forward but he knows how to defend. He's also the first player to shout and encourage and organise the others. Personally I'd move him into the centre with Ifill and make him captain. I'd back him against Aljofree any day.

Spot on and i think that's where people are coming from when he gets some negative comments, as he does appear to be better at CH than left back, as best described as steady there.

Looks like just a shaddow.

I posted the youtube link on thisis yesterday I think. I think he looks like he could be a very good LB at this level, with his size and build as well, he could potentially be a lot better than Commingues IMHO.

Apparently MM has said he would be option c behind someone else unless that CCC LB can prove he's fit?

He'll probably now give a trial to the old injury prone sheff weds left back - although it is interesting that he is now saying he wants someone better than vincent to put pressure on him as Kennedy can act as cover

Vincents just one of those old players who suddenly become a liability. That time came about the turn of the year, we looked better with Nicholas in the team!

He did a great job in the promotion year, but he is past it. In my opinion.
