Title: Brez
Post by: Power to people on Thursday, July 3, 2008, 13:09:12
Is Brez's agent trying to engineer a transfer for him, suggesting the club don't want to open negotiations about a new deal (in today's adver) ?

Someone tell the agent to fuck off and come back at the start of the season when Brez starts as 1st choice goalie, maybe then he will have a case to discuss a new contract, until then let the manager and chairman deal with getting the team / club ready for the new season.

That's agents for you. Trying to push up the wages of their player one way or t'other.

The club see him as an 'integeral' part of the squad, but we'll see.

What fitton said is totally reasonable. Tell your agent to shut the fuck up and the club will discuss your contract in a couple of months.

Agree completely.  Fitton or Malpas need to take Brez quietly to one side and have a word.  He needs to pull his agent in to line.

I believe Wolves might be interested ... take the money if its decent as he will be out of contract next year.

We have Smith and we could always get Evans back on a free as cover/challenge for Smith?

Fuck Rhys Evans.

Tell Wolves, if they are interested, we want 500k plus Mulgrew otherwise he will leave for nothing next summer. He knows he will go to a better club next summer, and be able to negotiate a better wage as there will be no fee, so get rid now and bring in another keeper to challenge/back up P.Smith.

wolves were interested last season for sure.
brez didn't move because he didn't want to leave last season.sturrock would have sold him otherwise
whether he does now or not, i have no idea.

Agreed..........wouldn't be that shocked if he doesn't find a league club to play for this season, certainly don't want him back here.

Cant help feel that the agent wants them to make a offer so they can turn it down and have a excuse to engineer a move away.

im not denying smith is a good keeper but i dont think he's good enough to puch for promotion, if brez does go, use the money for another keeper, well atleast some of it

Brez's transfer always had the hallmarks of an active agent.

Too good to be true and all that.

Wolves have Wayne Henessey and Matt Murray, both of whom are class, even if Murray is injury prone. I can't imagine they'd want Brez unless as backup.

I'm obviously missing something here.

I didn't think Brez was fantastic last season. Good keeper yes, but best in the League? His kicking's shit and sometimes communication between him and the defence is non-existent.

Good league 1 keeper and young enough to improve his areas of weakness, but not as great as some believe. (Imho)

I agree Brez last season wasn't fantastic and could improve , but he is still a very good keeper though, but if we sold him I'd be happy as long as we brought in another decent keeper to fight Smith for the No 1 spot

What will Brez do if Smith get the 1st game ahead of him...throw his toys out the pram and demand a move (or get the agent to do it for him)

Hartlepool away 2006. Best performance by a keeper Ive ever seen in. By a mile.

He did have some dodgy games last season. Vale away comes to mind.

I'd agree with most of that, however which Keepers in this league would you perfer over him?

I would have taken Westwood of Carlisle over him, but he's gone to Coventry now

Post by: Arriba on Friday, July 4, 2008, 11:30:02
brez wasn't fantastic and herthab has summed him up well imo.
but and it's a big but.he has potential and lots of it.his handling is top notch and some of the saves he made beggar belief.
if he can get more confident with his communication, and his kicking(which i though improved as the season went on) then he could be a top keeper.
that is why he is looked at all the time by scouts.
smith is an able deputy but wont get any better.

brez was just getting back form  and confidence when mr malpas decided to bring back smith,a big error smith wasn,t ready brez lost the confidence and we went on a piss poor run because of it.The performance of brez and the back 4 against swansea was the best for me and i,ve never witnessed  a reaction to going 1-0 behind as i did that day.Real respect from the supporters but the best performance from any goalie i watched last season was cheltenham away how did we not win there?

The Swansea thing has been floating around since Martinez praised him in one of the play-off final programmes.

I'm sure he'll go nowhere for the time being but if we want him to be a part of the future then we better get a move on.

Title: Brez
Post by: DV on Saturday, July 5, 2008, 21:34:50
If hes down to his last year then I suggest we sit down and start contract talks now and give him what he wants.

Sure he wasnt at his best last season, but he's a bloody good keeper and one we want to keep here.

It we dont sign him up now, then come January he can talk to other clubs or we sell him on the cheap ala Fallon.

The Board dont get much, if any critism....but I'd be dissapointed if Brez left us for nothing. If he genuinly wants a new contract here than give it to him asap.

Title: Brez
Post by: Arriba on Saturday, July 5, 2008, 21:41:36
i reckon he'll stay.like i've said before, the only reason he didn't go last year, was because he didn't want to leave.
cant blame him for maximising his earning potential.he felt he was getting pushed away last year and he was right.maybe he is looking after his future now?

Brezovan to leave on a free is a absolute no-no.

He's not invincible but I think our current two are as good as we've had since Digby (who as we all know never adequately replaced 10 years on)

Talia-Mildenhall-Glass-Griemink-Evans have all tried to establish themselves as Swindon's number 1 and have all ultimately failed for whatever reason - whether it's poor form, leaving or just being plain bad.

I think a mainstay goalkeeper is an integral part of a successful football team. Smith is consistant but with the right guidance Brezovan can become a top notch goalkeeper.

the thing is he could get better.and has shown that he is capable of top notch goal keeping.he could be better than digby, but aint there yet.he has flaws like his communication and kicking, but has so much potential.
dunno what you mean by "as good as you lot think" yeovil?

I think we all see a real possibility that bigger clubs will be willing to pay good money for Brez, he's got a few creases to iron out at the moment but average goalkeepers are just not capable of producing performances like he did away at Hartlepool, Spencer has already said but that was for me the single greatest display of goalkeeping I've ever seen live and if he'd not got injured he'd have been in the L2 team of the year no problem that season.

Average L1 goalkeepers are a dime-a-dozen and for me Brez stands head and shoulders above that bracket, get him signed up, he's a key figure in the new look STFC if you ask me.

I think people like him cos hes so tall and pretty :D

I think people are being a bit harsh on Brez.  Before he broke his arm he was very good for us, okay since coming back he's struggled a little but people forget his nightmare injury too quickly.  Must be mentally tough going through that and then try to okay as if nothing's happened.

The only goalkeeper in my mind who is better or on par with Brez in L1 or the championship is Westwood.

It sounds the classic case of an agent pushing for a better deal.I do however think
that we need to get a contract extension done before 31st August (Transfer Window)
Much better to do that than a january scenario, of is he going or is he staying and
his value in january without a deal, would also diminish significantly.Sign him up!

Title: Re: Brez
Post by: Power to people on Monday, July 7, 2008, 12:37:08
Reading between the lines it sounds more like Brez is angling for a move and if a championship team comes in for him then he will want to talk to them, as far as I'm concerned if the guy has got no loyalty then sell him now whihc his stock is high instead if waiting until Jan when we will get a smaller fee as he will only have 6 months left on his contract.

Title: Re: Brez

But I think the only reason the swansea rumour is doing the rounds is that Martinez rates Brez and wrote about him, but I don't think they need a keeper
