At Incognito. Was there Saturday for Ministry Of Sound, Shit hot night. Anyone know how much it will be Saturday for Gatecrasher there?

They've had a fair few big things at incognito recently haven't they. They had flo-rida the other week, and bodyrox. My tip is to walk around and get free leaflets, otherwise its tres expensive.

Yeah... They did it up. It's not doing too well. problem is people in Swindon keep to their routines, Wont go anywhere else, Plus I really dont think there is a market for Dance music in Swindon. I mean Judge Jules (is a big name whether he is shit or not) did not fill up the top floor in the apartment. was busy but not as busy as you'd think.

Incognito is getting some big names in but not the crowds so... not sure how that will end up.

I like the music so was a great night for me but there is not a dance music market in Swindon. People like drum and bass and commercial dance.

Well it's in the arse-hole of Swindon for starters.

Don't expect respectable and desirable clientele such as myself to go down there. Christ, if someone I knew saw me then my life would be over.

Walkabout's a shit hole. I used to go there about 2-3 years ago. Full of drunken 18 year old dickheads who cant handle their drinks and want to fight.

I went to liquid once for the VIP opening thing. Apparently the bouncers are quite strict there,

  I've been in there when it was The Big Fish...not a regular down town, but don't mind the odd expedition.  

  Seemed quite popular amongst the young black kids....which will always put off some young white kids of a certain mindset.

I wander down town occasionally. You've got to mix it up a bit. I really can't stand walkabout though. I always say I'll never go into the kasbah again, but I always do, that place is a pit of broken dreams.

Hey I've been in there before! NEVER AGAIN! walked in there felt like I was in Harlem. I was alright though after I surrendered my wallet and mobile though!  8)

Its just a pit.

A pit which is often the only place open late mid-week. That's a big draw when the Savoy kicks you out at midnight.

Clubbing in Swindon is generally a pile of wank! SUJU is ok, and the closest thing to what you will find as 'underground/ Non commercial clubbing' if your into your dance music.

I've been to Gatecrasher nights in Liquid Cardiff and Leeds... both were a massive disappoinment

I'm not really a fan of Dance myself so clubbing isn't really top of my things to do list. Incognito is actually now a proper venue supposidly. so along with club nights like this they are also putting on live gigs from what i gather.

Down town is shoddy as hell.  After having recently been dragged into Liquid I have to say its potentially the worst nightclub Ive ever been in.

Clubs in general I don't really like, bars and pub gardens are the way forward!

On a similar subject, isn't it funny how many bottles of Magners are left in the fridge at "The Cross Bar" every home game?

I could have told the club a long time ago that it was a passing phase and people would either 1) go back to proper cider, or 2) get bored of having their drink massively diluted when the ice melted.

 I like a good pub garden, but they're a bit thin on the ground in Swindon.

It's also fairly enclosed for those late evening cigarettes.

I used to go out to a pub in Ramsbury called  The Malt Shovel, which had a magical beer garden.

   Hidden away and went down to the Kennet, where in the summer would gather martins and swallows.

 Now sadly closed.

Incongnito is good but no business, as I said they will go bust within the year. Getting big names in but no crowd so.... Ministry of sound the other day was £8.00, no one was there so was dropped to £3.00.

its a throw back to its history as a Railway workers pub I believe.

I lived just around the corner from it a couple of years ago. It had about 5 different styles of decor going on then, which I thought was a nice touch.

It needed some money spent on it and a bit of TLC is all.Arent you like 16? what the fuck do you know about it :D

Running Horse gardens ok especially if you have kids.Well its pretty skanky TBH but beers £1.80 including the strong ones and the kids love the play park bit :D

 The White Hart at Stratton has a garden....I had cause to drink there about three years ago, as it was the local of a bird I was seeing.

The Beehive is still the BEST local apart from the Dolphin!

Not in Swindon but there is a pub in Wootton Bassett called The five bells,and its ace.Only problem is its always crammed because its so ace :)

 Good to know...I've always found Bassett pubs a bit disappointing.  Been going there for the odd reason for years, and can never remember anything approaching a good time.

This could be true.... My street is/was full of old people. The old lady next door Mrs Burke died not too long ago. FUll of the old railway works workers. Slowly they are dying/moving onto old peoples homes etc and younger people are coming in.

My Nan gets a bit upset as many of her friends from "back in the day" who she used to go dancing with etc at the mechanics institute etc have passed on and she cant get around anymore! Not that this is relevant but adds to the history of our town thing!

A good night out is about the company you're with not where you are (to a certain extent).

Yes I find bottom of town shite, in fact I find most of Old Town pretty spectacularly bad. I've been to plenty of places in other cities and towns where the location was hyped up/played down and have had mixed nights out in either such location. The best nights are when you're with a decent bunch of people and you're all having a laugh and not worrying how crap/good the next place is supposed to be.

The thing that really gets on my tits are the people who moan there isn't much to do in Swindon compared to other close-by Cities and Towns. There are plenty of varied things to do, just not in as much quantity as surrounding places. Anyway it's easy enough to get to other places if needs be.

This post would be a hell of a lot better if it was a drunken rant, but sadly I am not drunk. Probably because the bottom of town is so shit  :wink:

Good post Simon, and sums up my feelings. People moaning about nothing to do need to get a life. There's a great saying, "If you don't like something, do something about it". If town pisses you off, go and live somewhere else and then moan about that within 6 months.

FFS, you go anywhere for any amount of time and it becomes crap, my mate moved to Marbella and came home after a few years because "it was shit and there's nothing to do".

As you state, it's not where you go, it's who you're with. I have had great nights in some fucking shit holes, i've had shit nights in some swanky establishments. When i think back to the best nights i have had, there's no real common theme that can be attributable to all of them apart from the company i keep.

Brunel rooms in now liquid. To be honest, my local is the woodlands edge in Peatmore/Sparcells. Quite a nice little pub with an ok garden. Overlooks the chinese experience lake and the people there are alright. Although the one for best atmosphere I've been in is the Windmill in Freshbrook. Used to be a complete shit hole but had a refurb a couple of years back and is now pretty nice inside. Always a decent place to go Friday/Saturday, friendly staff always up for a laugh as well. Mainly a lot of people aged 21-30 on a weekend so the music can be sometimes quite loud but a good crack. Used to live in grange park so it used to be my local, but I know people to go there from Highworth for a nite just because it's a decent nite.
