He joined Grimsby Town today on a two year deal.

Don't have a great deal more to write - but he's ex-Swindon so therefore felt it was appropriate to mention it!

You just get that feeling that his career post-Swindon didn't quite work out the way he intended it too  :?

Oh man, disappointed with that move, Matt's a decent fella, shame to see him leave town.

Hope he does well up there.

He's an absolute cunt who should have been sacked straight after the 'Nam away game. Don't forget this fiollowed on from his previuos v sign v Vale to us. He was crap in the air, positionally shit and slower than me but most of all he was a cunt.

Yes, because you wouldn't go and work for another company 30 miles away for alot more money?? It's a job to these guys, they have short careers and need to earn as much as possible. he had no tie to this club apart from a contract. No emotional attachment or anything, why would he not leave? 99% of people would do the same.

Difficult to let it go. As far as I'm concerned any player who abuses the fans like he did twice deserves his contract torn up regardless of who they are. Even if the great man Chalkie had done it I'd have turned against him.
I couldn't care less he went to the Slave Traders for more money - good for him but I still stand by my original post althuogh it was assisted with copious amounts of white wine.

I think if players are getting abuse off their own fans then they've got every right to turn around and give some back. WoooooT!

I respect the way he did not lead the fans a merry dance he was honest from the begining and allways said it was about more money and lengh of contract.

Good luck to him.

Did anyone actually hear first hand?

At the time I somebody told me that someone had said something to him about "knowing where he lived and burning his house down".

Now that may be total and utter cack and he may have been just getting normal stick, in which case he was out of order despite the frustrations.

Or if it is true, the fan deserved a punch more than a verbal volley.

The original abuse was directed at Gurney and from what I recall was extremely unpleasant and aimed not just at the player but his wife and family as well. Whether he should have responded is a moot point obviously but it was certainly well beyond the normal fan-player abuse/banter. Heywood then joined in in defence of his team-mate and so got some of the same. That game still ranks as pretty much an all-time low  - the atmosphere that night was utterly poisonous, both between fans and players and among fans.

Gurney or Heywood,  my point is we all have a go at a player for being crap, but there is such a thing as going too far.  And whilst they should have walked away they are human too.

Yup. Not sure what was said to Heywood, but some of the stuff dished out to Gurney was well beyond the pale

End of the day everything about that game at Cheltenham should be forgotten.

Matt Heywood was a good bloke. He did like Swindon and went to City for the money. It was right for him to go in footballing reasons as well, because his best season by far was his first here, he was on his way down, not up.

As for regretting leaving Swindon, Im sure he did career wise. But he doubled his wages going to City and even though he has played for some pretty dire clubs since, he probably hasnt had to take a wage cut because they were all done on free's.

He's lived in Swindon for almost a decade, seen him out in Town countless times. If anyone actually wanted to have a go at him you wouldnt have to look too far. He's certainly no hate figure.

I like the word nipple, but I think there should be a usuage for the word "nupple", maybe there is already and I'm unaware, but if not nupple should be introduced.
