Somebody called redtowntillidie has posted on the BBC 606 website that "a reliable source" has informed him that following a structural survey major problems with the Arkells have been found and the stand will not be available for the whole of the season!!  That would be a disaster, but is it a wind-up or has anybody else heard anything?

Sounds amazingly far fetched to be a wind up, you've got to be really sad to sit around and make that up..............

The guy/gal who posted it does seems to have posted on Town matters since Jan 08, so seems unlikely to be on the wind up himself.

Could be that the club are getting a survey done or putting some minor damage right and someone got the wrong end of the stick through rumours from someone who works there or something.

I'm with Ben on this one. Surely given the board have invested money on the Arkells over the summer seems to indicate that rumour is a little off the wall, or shall we say somewhat exaggerated......

Hundreds have season tiks for the Arkells...the club would have stopped selling them for the Arkells if this was remotely possible i think...but then and again this is Swindon!

At the moment I'll take this with a large pinch of salt, the new board have largely been very transparent and if something like this had occured I'm sure the fans would have been informed.

True. This has come from 606 though which is totally wank. Now i have seen a few wind ups in my time (in fact i've fallen for one or two before) and i can tell you this is 99% likely to be total BS.

Had a walk around the Ground last week,seems to be a real buzz...if there was any truth i think the club would be on the ball these days and let it be known what the next step is.

confirmed by the club this is rubbish, seats will replaced and the stand painted thats it.

The Arkells will look 100 times better when they've replaced the seats. You can see it from the top of the hill to old town and even though there's still two blocks to go it was still looking impressive

I wish they would put more pictures on the official site. I would like to see what the seats look like. At the moment I peer over at the new seats whilst driving across the magic roundabout and can't help but think it might be a bit dangerous.

Other stadium enhancements that I would like to see:

1) A return to old school goal nets. These "USA 94 box nets" are no longer doing it for me
2) Crop circle-style patterns mown into the pitch. We are in Wiltshire after all
3) A mustard dispenser at all catering stands so I can enjoy my hotdog the way it was intended to be enjoyed
4) A big sodding bbq outside the ground every home game. Well, for the first one at least

That will do for now. I will post more of my ideas when I think of them.

If you sit in the block nearest the townend you are endanger of two things - getting wet paint on your clothes from the seats or the seat collapsing... Why?... cos apparently they've painted the old ones red instead of replacing them!!!

Erm, OK. I guess it makes sense to to spend too much money on an old stadium. But that sounds quite literally tacky.
