Title: Football Trivia
Post by: Samdy Gray on Wednesday, June 11, 2008, 12:32:50
Out of the 92 football league clubs, there are 23 different name endings e.g. City, United etc.

Can you name all 23? I got to 18 and gave up before looking at the answers.

Place name + Suffix + FC isn't it?

So they would be Port Vale + Suffix + F.C

Like Dagenham and Redbridge F.C.  It can't possibly be claimed that 'and Redbridge' should count in this?

I see.

Using that theory you couldn't include "and Redbrigde", no.

The answer is gonna be so gay.

For the purposes of this (well, the website I found it on) 'Redbridge' counts as one and so does 'Bournemouth'. I think that's all 23 then.

The point stands though - their name is 'Port Vale', not 'Port + Vale', if that makes sense?

Didn't know that about St J's

"Football was becoming more popular... .... it was St. Johnstone that became the club most associated with the town that gave the club its name. (In the Middle Ages, Perth was colloquially known as 'St. John's Toun' because the church at the centre of the parish was dedicated to St. John the Baptist."

And St Mirren

"They are named after Saint Mirin the founder of a church at the site of Paisley Abbey and Patron Saint of Paisley."
