no. we were an average mid table side whose manager has stated doesn;t want to spend lots of transfer funds. Franchise, like it or not, are a team on the up, with the backing and the manager to get them there take them rosey glasses off

I'm happy the nation doesn't expect - we can be that sneaky team that "emerges from nowhere..."

Don't say this out loud as I'm not normally the optomistc type, my general state is Cynically trying to depress other people. I think we might be the random team who rinses out the league next season.

You get a team every 2, maybe 3, seasons, who does it. Unexpected like. I think this is the first time since about 1997 that we've fitted the right sort of random winning profile. It'll all depend if we can keep it up over Christmas.

The Dons reportedly told some youth players that were promised contracts that they couldn't afford to pay them the £200 pound a week promised to them so they were released...

They had money but they spent it all on a massive stadium. Might work out int the long run but I don't see them taking the league by storm this season.

I think we're in with a shout for the play-offs if we can get a few good players in the positions where we need them. Not sure why Leicester are fancied, they're on the slide and I don't see them beign in the top 2 at all

Huddersfield are signing Liegan Parker today aswell.

It's the same every year - all the pundits and bookies do when they assess the lower leagues is go "Right, who's the big sides, who's the sides reckoned to have some cash? OK, they're favourites". Which is why they're virtually always wrong

Just prior to the start of the season,  me and a few mates always do predictions for the coming season. Last season I had  1. Doncaster 2. Nottm Forest  and Swansea to go up through the PO's

Not bad....also had Bormuff and Gills to go down,  certainly got lucky with Bormuff.

The key is to wait and see who is manager, who've they've signed, how they did last season etc.

I think before I could see us doing anything,  I need to be convinced we've added some physical strength to the midfiedl and defence.

At this stage it will be very difficult to look beyond Leeds and Leicester....but Leicester don't have a manager, will they lose players etc.....so in other words it's much too early to tell.

I remember the 95-96 season. Carlisle had just been promoted from league two/three/four (delete as appropiate), and had been bought by Michael Knighton, promising the earth, and were installed as pre-season favourites by the bookies, at around 6-1.

We had just been relegated for the second season in a row, and we had a number of rem players in our team, yet with a few weeks to go to the season we were 20-1.

We won the title, with a number of Town fans making a killing, whilst Carlisle got relegated.

TBF the 95/96 side does give a bit of insight into what you need to win this league....the basic XI for that season was very decent for Div 3.

Code:
  ................Digby

       Robinson Culverhouse Taylor Bodin

           P. Allen McMahon O'Sullivan Horlock

                Allison Thorne/Finney

The midfield was a bit dodgy,  as only Horlock played 40 odd games....the rest 20 odd....but the fill in players were decent. Lingy played 12 games and 4 subs....wonder if he got a medal. Ty Gooden similar.

Why will 'udders go up?  Because they've sold a few season tickets?  Didn't work for Bradford last season in L2.

I haven't got a clue who will go up, I'll wait til July to make a prediction, too much can happen between now and then.

because they'll be playing in front of 18,000 every week, have a manager with a decentish record, and have money to splash on players.

The reason I personally think Huddersfield is they were not a million miles awauy this year and the chairman has said they have money available. If Kiegan Parker is the type of player they are going to sign then they maybe have as good a chance as anybody.

Where did that get them?
