Not sure how much truth there is in this - but apparently we're one of 3 clubs in talks to sign Fleetwood, who is out of contract at Forest Green.

Had a text from sister's boyfriend who is usually pretty up to speed with all things non league (he supports Havant & W).  Apparently it was in the Non League paper today and was a direct quote from Mr Fleetwood himself!

Swansea and Charlton are the other 2 clubs.  Will see if I can find a link anywhere....

Ahh right maybe that rumour is true then. Someone else posted it on another forum. Interesting. Why would he choose us over them 2 teams though? They'll be playing at a higher level and offering a higher wage. I guess we're local though.

more realistic chance of first team football i'd guess. Think it was just a flash in the pan for him though, and two levels lower. he hardley set the world alight last season for hereford, looked average in the fa cup, and his goals have dried up a little second half of the season too.

yeah, he looked decent in that game, hes a bit like Van Nistelrooy in the fact he plays very much on the shoulder on the last defender, but has a bit of pace about him aswell, id be happy if we signed him

He's had one fantastic season at FGR - but he was ordinary at best in the FL with Hereford.

Would he be worth the risk? Blackburn was great at Conference level but was less than convincing in the 3rd tier.

Hmm, I reckon if that's correct we would be in with a decent shout, as he wouldn't have to move, and with the current slump that will help, he'd also get more games with us, as well as not such a jump in quality so less pressure on him, seems like the logical choice to me!

would he play much for us though?
it seems we will have the big man/small pacey combo

so will be Corr or Paynter with Cox or Fleetwood

Not sure I see the point in signing an unproven striker, unless one or two are moving out.

Fleetwood scored a lot of goals, but his performance against us didn't really impress me that much.  OK, I know you can't judge on one game.

To be honest though would you rather have Fleetwood or Sturrock?

id have Parkin back aswell, but refering to my previous post Malpas like the big man/small man combo, so Parkin would be a replacement for Corr or Paynter, whilst Fleetwood would be a replacement for Blair

he has been quaoted as saying before when he has Corr playing that he would would love to have 4 or 5 barry corrs in the team due to the height, and he always plays Cox, and when Corr was injured he put Peacock up top as he said again to complement Cox he needs a big man

fair comments.cox is no1 choice for sure. and because he aint gonna win headers physical battles etc, i see what you are saying.
but sammy p or fleetwood? i know who i'd take, and who would be my no1 striker.

i really dont see why we're not in the running for parkin. A proven goalscorer, cheap, loves it here, fans favourite, help the 6000 push. i can't see the logic in not signing him

yeah out of those two i would choose Parkin because of the aerial threat, but id be delighted with 4 forwards Corr Paynter Cox Fleetwood. in a perfect world it would be Parkin instead of Corr

the only reasons i can think of are if he isn't completely over his injuries,or his wage demands.

I think Parkin is talented enough to play big man or the little man role in a strike force.

I mean who out of Mooney and Parkin was the big target man and who was the one to run off....?

Same with Fallon

dan I'm not disagreeing really, I'm basis g the signings on malpas wanting the big man/small man, as u say parkin mooney was very effective, malpas wants to go a different way by what he has said in previous interviews

But we have spoken to him...

Quote
CHARLTON are set to table a bid for Forest Green goal ace Stuart Fleetwood.

Charlton assistant manager Phil Parkinson watched Fleetwood in Rovers' FA Cup victory over Rotherham and the Gazette understands a bid will be made this week.

The 22-year-old helped himself to 36 goals last season. He rejected a £175,000 January move to Crewe Alexandra to try and help Forest Green to the play-offs.

advertisementFleetwood, who won the Young Player of the Year award at the Carlsberg/Non League Paper National Game Awards, has gone on holiday for a fortnight to think over his next move.

Fleetwood said: "I have already spoken to Charlton, Swansea and Swindon but I won't be making any decisions until I get back from my holiday."

Meanwhile, Forest Green chairman Colin Gardner revealed no official offer has been tendered.

He said: "An offer will be needed to be made in writing to the board.

"If we accept the offer then Stuart's transfer will go through- if not it will go to an FA tribunal."

Meanwhile, former Forest Green defender Chris Giles has agreed terms with Blue Square Premier rivals Crawley Town.

The 26-year-old centre-back will begin his second spell at the Broadfield Stadium.

Giles was released by Jim Harvey at the end of the season. The popular defender. expressed his shock following his release.

Giles scored five goals in 41 appearances last season, including a memorable header in the FA Cup first round replay victory at Rotherham.

Crawley boss Steve Evans told the official Crawley Town website: "Big Chris Giles is a top class defender who was outstanding every time I watched him last season.

He defends as if his life depended on it, sticks his head on the ball in both boxes and you cannot ask anymore."

Chester seem to think they are in with a shout as well: -

Chester linked with move for Fleetwood
CHESTER were today being linked with striker Stuart Fleetwood.
The 22-year-old prolific goalscorer was attracting interest from three clubs after turning down a new contract from Conference club Forest Green Rovers.

Brentford and Exeter City as well as Chester were reportedly being linked with the striker who joined Forest Green Rovers 12 months ago and hit 27 goals in the Blue Square Premier League last season.

Chester owner, Stephen Vaughan, said: "We are aware of Fleetwood's availability and obviously a player with his ability would enhance our squad.

"The player's agent has had discussions with a number of clubs but at this stage it would be premature to reveal whether we will pursue the matter."

Fleetwood, who is currently a free agent, has been capped by Wales Under 21s and started his career at Cardiff City before moving to Hereford United in 2006.
