Title: Target 6K Pub Crawl next Wednesday Post by: pauld on Friday, May 16, 2008, 07:35:30 Trust members should have already received notification of this via email but for the rest of you (and Trust members who haven't given us a current email address):
Quote But warm words don't sell tickets and we need to put that support into action. Which is why, together with the Supporters Club, we met with the club earlier this week to discuss how we could help in a coordinated campaign for "The Race to 6K". The club have ambitious plans to market the season tickets at a series of events over the summer and when a timetable of these events is available we'll be asking for volunteers to help out. In the meantime, if there's a large-ish event taking place near you this summer, whether Football related or not, that you think the club should have a presence at, please let us know the details (dates, location, rough size, nature of event etc) and we'll investigate whether it can be added to the list. But to kick things off, we plan to start with a "Champions League Final pub crawl" next Wednesday. Sadly, this isn't quite as much fun as it might at first sound (although we hope it will still be quite good fun) - the plan is for teams of fan volunteers to leaflet pubs showing the Champions League finals next Wednesday evening. If we are to hit the 6,000 target, we will need to get at least some of that from "armchair" football fans who live/work in Swindon, enjoy watching football but don't currently go to STFC very often. Where better to find a large group of such people in one place at once than among those watching the CL final in pubs around town next week? The club will provide us with leaflets etc - all you need to do is meet at the Legends Lounge at 6.45pm next Wednesday. We'll be dropped in to Town to leaflet as many of the town centre/Old Town pubs showing the game as we can then meet back at the Legends Lounge for a celebratory (and by then well-earned) pint and watch the second half of the game. If you can't get to Swindon on Wednesday or are already planning on watching the game in your own local why not pick up some leaflets beforehand and take them with you? Leaflets will be available for collection from the club from midday on Tuesday. Please email either myself or Chris Tanner at the club [email protected] to arrange collection of leaflets, which pub you will be going to etc. If you can't make next Wednesday's Champion's League Pub Crawl, don't worry, there'll be plenty of other opportunities over the summer to help out! "The Race to 6k" is an ambitious one but it is achievable and if we all pull together we can go a hell of a long way towards getting there. This is our chance to offer practical support for one of the most radical ticketing initiatives any STFC board has ever undertaken - we owe it to our club and ourselves as fans to do all we can to help make it work. Pub crawl in London?I'd come along and help if I wasn't in London and in the middle of exams :( Not sure Londoners and tourists are particularly likely to want a season ticket so carrying the 6K target promotion out here is a tad pointless. Title: Target 6K Pub Crawl next Wednesday Post by: larwood on Thursday, May 22, 2008, 08:08:35 Okish.Only seven people turned up and two of them were STFC staff! But it was enough for a team of two.We did the bottom end of town which was dead, probably for the best cause it meant the knob quota was less than it might have been.I didn't get any hassle, but then my approach was more good cop to Paul's bad cop :soapy tit wank:
Course there were quite a few who were like why would i want to watch that rubbish but i didn't stay to argue with them, think PaulD did though :D 8) There were also quite a few Town fans about and a lot of the pubs took the leaflets to display so all in all not a bad night really. Not sure if its something i'd want to do again though! Have to mention how much of a hero Paul is,all the stuff he does for the club and the trust,he must deserve some sort of TEF award or something :D Title: Target 6K Pub Crawl next Wednesday Post by: pauld on Thursday, May 22, 2008, 08:15:11 Went well I think. Thanks to those who did show - we had two teams of three doing town centre (one lot downtown, one lot Old Town) plus Spencer's "Operation Windmill Outreach", a couple of guys doing pubs in Bradford on Avon (dropped some leaflets off there on Tuesday), plus three from the SC doing pubs in West Oxon. Not heard from the out of town guys, but for the two teams doing town centre, we covered about 25 pubs which is pretty good going in one evening.
I think most of us got a more positive response than we expected. Very little hassle/negative response although what there was was more from people who identified themselves as being "native Swindonians" ie didn't really get a lot of "sod off I support a plastic Prem side" which we kind of expected. Quite a few people seemed genuinely surprised/interested at the prices, especially with the kids 3 quid a game - got a fair amount of interest along the lines of "Mum/Dad + kid". All in all, well worth doing - we got a load of leaflets out and talked to a load of people who weren't aware of the ST prices, who were at least polite enough to feign interest :D Big thanks to Alan J, larwood, Lady (plus mate) and Spencer for turning out. And to Chris and Adam from the club for pitching in as well. Still disappointed at the lack of cabbage gun in the van, mind. Ok, so tell you what how's about if people do fancy doing this, drop me an email at pauld@[removethisbitbeforesending]truststfc.co.uk saying which area you're in, which/how many pubs you reckon you can do and roughly when you'd be planning on doing it. That way if there's several people in the same area we can avoid overlap/put you in touch with each other etc EDIT: make sure you remove the [removethisbitbeforesending] bit from the email address before emailing - just occurred to me I'm going to get spammed to hell by bots if I put the bare naked email on a forum.
