Good to see they're upholding the image of scots being all friendly and easygoing at International football events..........................

That's the image of the national teams supporters not Scottish club sides supporters.  Plus all Rangers fans are not Scottish when I went to Barca game early this year there was a large amount of northern irish there as well.

I realise you may be fishing and I have bitten but oh well  :(

Usually Rangers and Celtic fans are all being praised for the way they behave in europe .

Hertha is right on this though they behaved like total wankers

Some of their fans were drinking at 6am in Manchester, had to be expected really. Scottish fans are normally very well behaved.

Scotland national teams fans are very well behaved and rightfully are described by most countries as the best in the world, alot of countries look forward to Scotland playing in there country.  Not sure what you say about both sets of the old firms supporters having good reputations I am pretty sure both have previous history of trouble.

I remember when all RyanAir flights from Stanstead were cancelled a couple of years ago when i was trying to get to Barcelona for the Andorra qualifier... a load of Sweaties had their flights to Italy cancelled also, but were in great spirits. All the Scotland fans took the setback a lot better than the English, and had been a good laugh overnight while waiting to check in...

Another fishing thread, as Enda has said last night has nothing to do with Scottish "Tartan Army" supporters.  Most of the Tartan army are made up of other club sides, ask old firm fans who they support and it Rangers or Celtic, the majority do not give a toss about the national side.

The hun are the hun for a reason, dispicable supporters.

What's even more shocking is that driven to the edge of poverty by their staged pay increase, coppers have resorted to stealing trousers and shoes from fans in order to clothe themselves

36 arrests out of over 100,000 fans? yeah good one. You get more arrests at an average town game!

Name any set of fans that woudlnt have goen mental after a days drinking and then not being able to see the game because the council is incompetant.

It really depends on the level at which you believe resources are 'owned'.  If you believe that oil revenues should benefit the residents of Scotland only (and not the residents of the UK as a whole), why then should the residents of Aberdeenshire not benefit more than the residents of Argyll?

Don't get me wrong - I'm a big Scotophile (made up word, but you get my meaning) - but I've never really understood why some Scots feel that the oil is a Scottish only resource.

At present, Scotland is an integral part of the UK and, at present, the majority of Scots are in favour of retaining the union.  I accept that both of these situations could change in the future - particularly if/when the Tories win at the next election.  But for now, surely the oil is British...just like we are.

Probably because the majority of english people seem to think Scotland bring nothing to the table.  It's all talk at the end of the day.

Back on subject I suppose last nights events will fuel Celtic's "Scotland's Shame" campaign against the 'gers fans.  Which in turn will increase the "Large John was aware" calls from the hun.  And there you have the never ending battle of Glasgow.

Are there any major arguments for it apart from "Yey! Nationalism!"? There's the oil thing, but surely the North Sea Oil reserves won't last forever and I'm sure you wouldn't just be able to claim it all. They'll be contracts and stuff still in place, and the whole infrastructure won't suddenly become Scottish.

What started with me fishing (successfully as well, seriously I started by saying something about genetics and apes) might end up with me learning something.

Football wise what really gets me about scotland is that if Scotland are playing a world cup or ero game english supporters generally want then to win, or aren't bothered. However whn England play the scots would actively support & back anyone against us.
Politically if they want independence that would be fine by me. What really galls me is that the people who run our country are labours scottish mafia,  scots MP's vote on English only matters, but English Mps have no say on Scot's only matters. So I would say you want independence great have it but take your politicians with you too.
Overall, my view is that scotland remaining part of the UK is not as important as the question of whether we should remain in Europe !

And if you had a vote south of the border it would be nearer 90% in favour of the Swetties fucking off and doing their own thing. Scottish fans have always been pissed up trouble makers. If you go to a pub on any night the last one there will be the pissed up Jock getting lary. If an Englishman spoke about a Pakistani the way Scotsmen talk about the English there would be all hell to pay. As for why England fans may not support Scotland go back to 74 and 78 where the Scottish took the piss out of the English and then made complete and absolute fools of themselves.

I've spent a lot of time in Scotland over the last 5 years and have to say that hasn't been my experience at all.  Not really fair to make comments like 'Scottish fans have always been pissed up trouble makers' and then complain when Scots make generalisations about the English (not that they all do).

The only people that seem to think this are you lot.  The Scots themselves don't consider Rangers (or Celtic) fans as loveable, in fact even the tartan army come in for a fair amount of stick in the media up north.  (I should say not for trouble, but for the fact they portray the Scots as drunken happy go lucky people).

It's some of you lot that are generalising about the old firm fans.  Did any of you hear about the young Celtic lad stabbed to death after the last old firm match by two Rangers fans?  No?  Well I wouldn't call that loveable either.

You seem to be victims of your own generalisations.

I did think it was very hypocrtical of Peter Drury last night to mention, apropos of nothing, that the Zenit fans had a reputation for intolerance. Yeah, right, unlike the bouncy Rangers fans you've been eulogising about all night whose tolerance is legendary!

Then again, Peter Drury is a colossal cock.

It amazes me how Nationalistic the scotch who live in England are.

They slag us off and want anyone we play to beat us, but act outraged if anything derogatory is said about them.

Simple solution. If you dislike us so much, why don't you move back to your beautiful country where you can slag us off as much as you like.

As for Independence and the cost, it would be interesting to see how much North Sea oil is worth to the UK when offset by the huge amounts of money taxpayers fork out in subsidies to scotland.

I'm not anti jock, I just get fucked off with any group of people who are happy to live in England, yet slag it off at every opportunity.

Here is another video, 7 or 8 police being chased by about 500 angry Rangers fans. One of the coppers falls behind, gets hit by something and goes down, then half the fans try and lay into him and the other half try and protect him! CCTV is ace.

On that subject, I've always thought that a channel dedicated entirely to broadcasting riots, would be something that could make a lot of money from ad revenue. Where else can companies that sell kevlar stab vests advertise their product?

So are you for Scottish Independence STA? Are there any other arguments for it about from just general nationalism / grr.. at english? North Sea Oil is fairly short term income stream, what would Scotland be left with when that ran out, presuming of course you could keep the infrastructure, got to renegotiate contracts with drilling companies etc.? What about currency, would you be pro-euro for scotland, or stay with the pound?

So many questions yet to much laziness to do my own research into the subject

Im pro independence, yes. A large part of it for me is the fact that Some much of the worlc see GB and england as the same thing. One of the most infuriating things is talking to some yank and them saying "oh your from Scaatland, thats in England, isnt it?" A big factor for me is if the ROI can be successful as an independent country why cant Scotland? They certainly dont have the natural resources that Scotland has. Obviously oil isnt Scotland only income. Tourism and Whisky brings in a huge amount. Edinburgh is a huge financial centre and RBOS is actually the second largest bank in Europe. And I believe that businesses will thrive upon independence after ROI style tax breaks for overseas companies etc. Post independence, I would have a problem with the Euro.

"If that had been Man U or Chelsea fans behaving like that in Glasgow the Scots would be going barmy.....20 fans beating a copper isnt hard its pure cowardice and gang mentality.."

Leefer the Scots are going mad about THIS.  Do you think they don;t care about what happened, or are pissed off at the way the gers fans have disgraced the nation?

I haven't heard anyone supporting the Manchester events.

Not quite so much prominence given to the fact that it was a Rangers fan who got the copper out of it, according to an interview with the copper himself on the BBC. But then that doesn't fit quite so well with the "hero cop/savage animal football fans" tabloid agenda does it?
