Title: Spain Post by: Bob's Orange on Friday, May 2, 2008, 20:59:28 Off to Madrid on Tuesday for 3 days in the city including the Real v Barca game. I believe Real can win the league if they don't do it on Sunday which would be ace!
Then a train down to Barcelona to see Barca v Mallorca. Really looking forward to it, everybody I know has raved about Madrid. Title: Spain Post by: leefer on Saturday, May 3, 2008, 09:51:15 Fair play BOB....hope it goes well and have a good time in Espana.

Title: Spain Post by: Panda Paws on Saturday, May 3, 2008, 19:20:50 Yep - did the Madrid match trip a few years back and you will deffo have a great time. If you get time the stadium tour is well worth doing.
Title: Spain Post by: Scot Munroe on Saturday, May 3, 2008, 19:50:05 a mate of mine when to the Bernbeau last sunday to watch Madrid 3-0 Athletic Bilbao and he said it was brilliant. I think it cost him 100 euros. But for the El Classico tickets are costing up to 700 euros.
Title: Spain Post by: Rich Pullen on Saturday, May 3, 2008, 19:52:16 I prefer Barcelona as a city and to be honest the football experience too. But that's just me.
Title: Spain Post by: janaage on Saturday, May 3, 2008, 22:11:24 I'd rather support a "Hitler XI" than Real Madrid, but each to their own I suppose. I hate them more than I hate the hun. FUCKIN FACT!

Title: Spain Post by: Bob's Orange on Tuesday, May 13, 2008, 14:47:44 Back from Spain.
Madrid - Wonderful city visually, quite rightly the Madrilagos are very proud of it, loads to see and do. The bad side was that it is a very 'Spanish' city and nobody (apart from out hotel staff) spoke any English. This was quite challenging but Dos Cervejaz and Tapas were generally the order of the day! We did the city bus tour and there is loads to see, we also went to one of the Modern Art galleries, but the Picasso section including 'Guernika' was closed the weekened we went. Joan Miro who is a very celebrated Catalan artist has some work which I can only describe as mince, just a load of dots and lines. I think this may have been at the end of his career however. Real Madrid v Barcelona. Quite simply amazing! The stadium is breathtaking and due to a mistake on our part got their over an hour early and got stuck in the crowds waiting for the team bus to arrive. We got into the ground an hour early and it is a wonderful stadium (my comparison to the Nou Camp comes later), we were seated behind where the camera is on Sky and the atmosphere built including a crescendo of whistles for the Barca players out for their pre match build up. Barca did a clap of honour thing for the Madrid players and the game kicked off. The game was one way traffic and Madrid were quickly 2-0 up thanks to Raul and Robben with a header! Barca offered nothing and Messi who was by far and away their best player was fighting a losing battle. Higuain and Van Nistelrooy then scored a penalty (which I have on my phone and may put up later if I can work out how to do it) before Henry scored with a neat finish from a Messi pass. Real's passing game was a joy to watch and I can't remember many long balls as both teams passed their way out of defence. Guti was immense and Canizares made a couple of blinding saves (from Messi mainly!). Overall a quite amazing atmosphere with the Madrid Ultras singing the whole game. Simply a must do game for a football fan (if you can afford it!). So 4-1 and everyone was happy, we got soaked the second half and on the way home but didn't really care. We did the stadium tour the day after and it was really good. The trophy room is something else, unfortunately I couldn't fit all of the European Cups they won in one camera phone shot but bought a cheap photo of me lifting the European Cup in my Town shirt which was a proud moment!! My thoughts on Barcelona later as I am tired of typing now! |
