Title: Where to get a decent suit
Post by: magic8ball on Friday, May 2, 2008, 12:41:59
I have a wedding on Sunday, plus a few job interviews coming up, so I think I should invest in a good suit.

Don't want to spend loads, so I guess my ultimate budget would be about £200. Had a quick look in Next today, there were some nice ones but the choice wasn't huge.

I'm after a charcoal grey one if possible, should be appropriate for lots of different occassions.

Any ideas?

Ta.

I do love my little jaunts up to Swindon, but I'd rather not travel there from Swansea just for a suit you crazy animal.

so you're asking a group of people in swindon the best place to buy a suit in swansea and I'm the crazy one?

short of chains like next, moss and burtons I've no idea.

I was curious of peoples experiences with some of the chains like Moss Bros, Next, M & S etc...

Do they sell decent ones? Are they overpriced?

Burtons do good suit hire..you could buy a decent suit in there for about £120. Or you could try Debenhams which are good as well..

You mean that's all he wears? As he goes around in the afternoons flashing old ladies.

Don't stop Fred, they love the excitement. It brings a thrill to their otherwise stale lives. You're what they live for, their hope, their muse, their rush.

You've left it a bit late for Sunday, but unless you just happen to be one of those mythical "standard" sizes, or if you fancy treating yourself a bit I'd try:

www.asuitthatfits.com

You can spec something up on there for under £200, or push the boat out and have something really nice with a load of bespoke features like proper cuff buttons for £350-400. Nice.

It also means that people like me that can never get a suit off the peg to fit right are catered for. (Why are the majority of 30" length suit trousers in 34" and upwards waist sizes by the way? How bloody fat are the people in this country. And why are sizes only in even numbers? Surely to God that means half the population have trousers that are an inch too long or short or an inch too loose or tight in the waist.)

Bastards!

Bespoke's the only way to go for me.

Have one in an outlet village in Bridgend, I think I'll have a look in there.

Wow, the whole suicide thing has really put Bridgend on the map! Great PR stunt by the local council.

Always worth looking around the charity shops.....sadly gone are teh days when you could pick up a demob suit from Army and navy stores...they were proper ace.

I got one a bit too big and tailored it myself.   I kind of saw myself as Humphrey Bogart in Casablanca....read Camus and Sartre...and thought I could outgrow "football".   Unfortunately...Camus claimed everything he knew he'd learn from football, and I soon rediscovered the eternal verities of the terrace.

Steal one from someone at the Morrisons at the Morfa, then wear it through Town Hill or Bon-y-maen. Once it's completely ripped to bits and covered in blood take it to some posh suit joint and demand a refund. Then you can stroll up Mumbles looking the dogs and be ready for interviews etc.

I've got a proper ace suit, which was a Crystal Palace club suit, which I picked up charitably.  Its a wine colour, I suppose a mix of blue and red.  Some years back I went to Ireland for a wedding and a bit of a hol...Belfast then Donegal.  I had to fly back for work, but my mate who I went with carried on down to Dubin for a while.  Whilst in Dublin the car was broken into and everything nicked, his best wedding suit etc.....they left mine, 8)

Sadly I'm now too fat to get in it  :(
