Title: Coming & Goings next season Post by: Don Rogers Shop on Tuesday, April 29, 2008, 10:29:36 So who do you think is off then?
Phil Smith- can see him going good enough first choice keeper in this league and I cannot see him wanting to be on the bench again next year. Vincent, is a 1 year offer going to be good enough to keep him here? Maybe a few league two teams could offer him a 2 yr deal. Jack smith- same as Vincent and has been making noises already about wanting a 2 year deal. Comminges- really cant see him staying I hope im wrong though. I really think that we need to maybe cut our losses with a few players aswel, Roberts,Corr and Sturrock are all players I don’t think we are likely to see a lot of next season for one reason or another. What do you think and who would you realistically like to see us target playerwise for next season ? one player I would like but I know we would not get is Puncheon from barnet Title: Coming & Goings next season Post by: Luci on Tuesday, April 29, 2008, 10:35:05 Think Phil will stay personally and think Comminges is on his way.
Title: Coming & Goings next season Post by: Colin Todd on Tuesday, April 29, 2008, 11:05:24 Whos going to want Corr and Roberts at the moment? They're not going anywhere.
Title: Coming & Goings next season Post by: Matchworn Shirts on Tuesday, April 29, 2008, 11:07:51 The fact that Vincent and Jack Smith are holding out suggest they would be actively looking for clubs elsewhere.
I would like to keep the two, as well as Comminges and Phil Smith but to be honest I wouldn't be surprised if only one of the four above ended up staying Title: Coming & Goings next season Post by: Don Rogers Shop on Tuesday, April 29, 2008, 11:08:21 I said cut your losses Colin its not a case of teams wanting them or not

If they get injured again let them go at the end of next season when their contracts are up, it wont cost any more than paying up their contracts, and with a bit of good luck we get 2 good players for the 2nd half of next season Title: Coming & Goings next season Post by: my-velocity on Tuesday, April 29, 2008, 11:22:03 We should've got rid of Roberts a long time ago..he's been lucky too stay this long to be honest.

IT INVOLVES PAYING THEM IN A LUMP SUM WHAT WE WOULD PAY THEM NEXT SEASON ANYWAY. Am i getting through to you at all?  Title: Coming & Goings next season Post by: Don Rogers Shop on Tuesday, April 29, 2008, 11:41:53 Yes you are getting through now try and understand what i am saying. We are going to be paying wages for two players who i would hazard a guess will make 20 appearnces BETWEEN THEM next season then get released at the end of the year so lets pay them off now and get replacements who are not injury prone or fucking pissheads
Title: Coming & Goings next season Post by: janaage on Tuesday, April 29, 2008, 11:42:24 Possibly save on Pension payments.... on potential bonus payments, which don't have to be written into future players contracts...
Title: Coming & Goings next season Post by: DMR on Tuesday, April 29, 2008, 13:00:08 The 4 DRS metioned in his first post should all get 2 year deals imo - all worth keeping.
Title: Coming & Goings next season Post by: Power to people on Tuesday, April 29, 2008, 13:01:00 You are having a laugh, get rid of 2 players who hopefully when fit will be a match for anyone in this league, yes we know Roberts is inconsistent, but if he was consistently good he would be in the championship by now, and Corr when he has played has looked a really good player, unfortunetly he has had a few injuries but hopefully when he comes back he can stay fit and make a real difference in the 2nd half of the season, he is a big target man who will probably come good.
I think some people need a realilty check, we are a L1 team with ambitions of promotion, these 2 players are good enough for L1 and Corr possibly for the next level if he stays fit, so to get rid would be a bit daft....and is not something clubs tend to do to injured players - they help them recover and then watch the player pay them back on the pitch for standing by them. I'm sure I will get flamed for this response though ! Title: Coming & Goings next season Post by: Colin Todd on Tuesday, April 29, 2008, 13:04:09 100 % agree PtP

Time will tell but I do beleive that these 2 players will be able to make a difference. Title: Coming & Goings next season Post by: reeves4england on Tuesday, April 29, 2008, 15:38:27 I don't think DRS is following the same line of thought as other people.
The options are: 1) pay X amount now and get rid of Corr and Roberts or 2) pay X amount gradually over the next year and hope we might get some use out of them. Therefore, it makes sense to keep them. Title: Coming & Goings next season Post by: axs on Tuesday, April 29, 2008, 15:40:55 I think the point is that if we pay them off we do not pay them as much as they would have earned over the next year.

That is making the assumption that they will an accept the lower offer and be willing to look for a club at Christmas time when they are not fully fit though, which I know I wouldn't be too keen on doing Title: Coming & Goings next season Post by: axs on Tuesday, April 29, 2008, 15:44:15 true, but it means they can go somewhere else, get paid on top of the lump sum they have been given and get first team football.

Wahey someone gets it at the moment we are paying 2xs physio, wages etc.Are the wages we are paying worth a handful of appearances next season Title: Coming & Goings next season Post by: Colin Todd on Tuesday, April 29, 2008, 15:59:04 Yes, but they have to agree to being paid less than the value of their contract wouldnt they?
Why would a player who is long term injured agree to that? Title: Coming & Goings next season Post by: axs on Tuesday, April 29, 2008, 16:00:44 they may not if it is long term, but if it was just a couple of months it is probably in their interest if another club is willing to take them on.
Title: Coming & Goings next season Post by: JPC82 on Tuesday, April 29, 2008, 16:24:31 Brezovan was attracting intrest from Spurs & Celtic etc, would it be possible Newcastle could come knocking? Wise loves him, Given always injured, Harper average, Krul still very young
Title: Coming & Goings next season Post by: Reg Smeeton on Tuesday, April 29, 2008, 17:09:56 I think MM should be looking to ship out just about anybody he can....certainly the fringe squad players...maybe he is, within the constraints of their contracts. The likes of Comminges should have had his offer withdrawn by now.
Title: Coming & Goings next season Post by: dell boy on Tuesday, April 29, 2008, 17:16:42 For me Comminges is worth a very good contract, if he has not signed yet, then up the contract, he is definitely worth it but make sure he signs for three years so if a larger club comes in we cash in as well.
He is one of only three I believe are better than Div 1 players. Because although a good right back is better to have than a bad one....its still the easiest position to play on the pitch. Top dollar goes to good strikers, creative midfielders or dominant centre halves. It was the beginning of the end for John Gorman when he shelled 600K for Mark Robinson. I hear what you say, but the Minge has abit of class and along with Cox and Brezovan are probably the class acts we have here at Swindon, if you are going to build a team for a push for promotion next season he is definitely one you will find very hard to replace. Title: Coming & Goings next season Post by: STFC4LIFE on Tuesday, April 29, 2008, 17:39:48 I would say the important players to keep are, Brezovan, Ifil, Easton, McNamee and Cox. Oh and Peacock
I wouldn't be overly fussed if we lost any of the others. I forgot McNamee, but he also has a contract to keep him here so will stay, Easton is very good at this level but not sure he would be a level up, Peacock is getting on a bit and probably only has one more good season in him, Ifil has had a shocking end of season, hard to understand really because I thought he was one of the most outstanding defenders in the first part of the season in this division, but that really sums him up, not good enough for the Championship. Title: Coming & Goings next season Post by: DV on Tuesday, April 29, 2008, 18:05:14 I'd keep much of the squad together as possible, all those mentioned i'd keep but dont think they all will.
Smith will go if he's offered two years somewhere else, however when Miguel goes off to Plymouth I think we may offer him a better contract because he will be first choice right back and can do a job. Miguel is a goner I think. Title: Coming & Goings next season Post by: Don Rogers Shop on Wednesday, April 30, 2008, 07:59:45 It is no coincidence that McGovern looked good with the minge behind him and McNamee looks good when he is behind him. When vincent or smith are playing our wingers dont seem that effective.
Just my opinion obviously Title: Coming & Goings next season Post by: Power to people on Wednesday, April 30, 2008, 12:41:39 I suspect the Minge has rejected a new contract and will leave but out of courtesy the club may agree not to put it into the public domain while he is picking up the POY awards hoping it may just help him into a re-think.
I do think he is off to Plymouth though with Sturrock tapping him up. Title: Coming & Goings next season Post by: Tails on Wednesday, April 30, 2008, 13:04:22 I would be surprised if Comminges isn't at Plymouth next season tbh.
