right I have sky+ in me lounge and pay £10 for multiroom in the bedroom.

I've been given another digibox and wanted to use the card occasionally from me multiroom skybox in the other digibox (thus avoiding the further £10 monthly for another multiroom subscription).

A mate (good mate he turned out to be) told me that all I had to do was phone up sky and ask them to pair the card up to both boxes. Well, I've done that this morning and was told it was not possible - she told me I could get it paired up to another box, but then I'd have to keep phoning up everytime I wanted to switch it from one box to another.

I can't use one of those wireless tv/video link thingys as the room I want to put the 3rd box in, is out of range.

And I can't use it for the one that is in range as apparently the sky+ box isn't compatible with the multiroom digibox and therefore I wouldn't be able to change the channels with the remote but only view what I had on the old sky+box  :boring:

annnnnnnnnyway, other than forking out another £10 a month for another multiroom jobby, looks like I'm struggling-any ideas people?

I thought it was £10 for any number of rooms, rather than £10 per extra room?

We have multiroom in three rooms in our house. Cost another £10 on every extra box you have.

I've no idea how to help jimbob, other than suggest you just get the sky wired into the 3rd room - you would be able to watch but not change channel but at least it wouldnt cost a tenner a month.

I have a question of my own along the same lines:

We have sky+ in the living room.

We have the TV link thing set up to the bedroom, prior to having sky+ we used to be able to change channel on ordinary sky in the bedroom.

Since getting sky+ we can only watch what is on the sky+ box whilst in the bedroom, but not change channel etc. This causes me the shocking inconvienince of actually having to get out of bed to change channel. Frankly its an outrage.

Any ideas anyone?

What kind of remote are you using in the bedroom (the one that stopped working)?

Ah I have the same prob, have tried the sky plus remote and it still doesnt work, have Sky become clever?

Some older versions of the Magic Eye don't work with Sky+ because the Sky+ remote's operate on a different frequency. You can configure the remote to work as a basic Sky remote (i.e. change the frequency) but then you lose all the Sky+ features like Pause/Rewind/Record etc.

I've tried both the sky + remote from downstairs and the older sky remote that we had upstairs before - neither do anything.

Our magic eye must be ancient by now.

So..... I just need to buy a new magic eye thingy in order to get full sky+ functionality in the bedroom , right?   I doubt they cost much?

Yeah, a new Magic Eye should have the Sky+ functionality.

I have Sky + with the magic eye in the bedroom and it works fine with a sky + remote changing channels, pausing etc.

I don't beleive that a normal sky remote will work correctly though.

I find these eye's only last a few years anyway and you have to replace them.

About 7-8 quid incl P&P from ebay.



You may know, but you can just bung the card into the second box without pairing, but you will not get any premium channels (sports, movies, etc). I doubt Sky+ functionality will work on the third box, nor the box you have taken the card out of until you put it back in.



Not sure I understand this. Can you explain a bit further please.

I guess the only other alternative is a wired TV link,  

or a freesat  card (20 quid) that'll just give you free-to-air channels - BBC1 2, ITV 1 2 3 4, (http://www.freesatfromsky.com/ - you can just get the card, no need for full system). Sounds like you want the full monty though so this isn't helpful.

I went to Asda last night and got a new magic eye, works a treat with sky plus, took 2 seconds, but you need a new remote

Someone pointed out, sky+ works on a different frequency to a normal digibox, so the remote doesn't work on my normal digibox when using my wireless tv/video link. If it did, I wouldn't need the multiroom would I??....now I'm really muckin fuddled... :?
