Title: Another local derby for Mex and Sussex Post by: pauld on Sunday, April 20, 2008, 16:37:31 Yet another chance for our Sussex based exiles to watch the Pox humiliate themselves next season:

Title: Another local derby for Mex and Sussex Post by: lebowski on Sunday, April 20, 2008, 18:28:21 I would dearly love to play them again in the league, the problem with this is that there is inevitably some element of glory coming up from the conference: Either you are champions, or you win a Wembley play-off final.
And on that note, our promotion from league 2 was arguably the worst way to go up in the entire top 5 divisions (i.e. finishing 3rd). Picky, I know. Title: Another local derby for Mex and Sussex Post by: BANGKOK RED on Sunday, April 20, 2008, 18:31:53 I want the pox to get their act together and get back up again. So that we can play them on a competitive level.
Title: Another local derby for Mex and Sussex Post by: janaage on Sunday, April 20, 2008, 18:36:34 I don't really want them to come up tbh, but if they do, I'd like to make some money on the back of their "success".
Title: Another local derby for Mex and Sussex Post by: lebowski on Sunday, April 20, 2008, 18:36:41 ...and beat them, of course.
Their league record at the CG is laughable. Title: Another local derby for Mex and Sussex Post by: pauld on Sunday, April 20, 2008, 22:23:29 Quote from: "lebowski" ...and beat them, of course. Their league record at the CG is laughable. It's not great at the Kassam either :D Title: Another local derby for Mex and Sussex Post by: flammableBen on Sunday, April 20, 2008, 22:39:54 I think that the Oxford rivalry died a bit with the building of the Kassam. I went to our last game against them at the manor and us all crowded in with Turbo's double and celebrations and abuse was fucking awesome. I went to the Kassam, and it's not just that the result went against us, the whole day out at your rivals seemed to be lessoned a bit.
Of course they are our proper rivals. And however many crap 3-sided stadiums they will be for the foreseeable future. I hope they get back in to the football league. Title: Another local derby for Mex and Sussex Post by: Ardiles on Monday, April 21, 2008, 07:42:23 With every year that they are in that league, the rivalry dies a little more. I know people still profess to 'hate' them, but it's not the same as it was. Anyone who has started watching STFC within the last 5 years will be more concerned about Bristol Rovers, I'm sure. Unless Oxford sort themselves out, I expect Rovers, City or Reading to take over as our main rivals before long.

Rubbish. Rivalry is about history between the 2 clubs. Doesn't matter what league their in. They're the team I want us to get in every FA cup draw we're both in, and for that reason I'd say I consider them our biggest rivals. Plus that game at the Manor was ace 8) Title: Another local derby for Mex and Sussex Post by: Ralphy on Monday, April 21, 2008, 15:44:40 Oxford came into the league in the 60's.

Ah ok, fair enough! As I'm sure was said on here when it happened, I believe Oxford replaced Accrington Stanley, and the reverse was true when they dropped off the radar. Title: Another local derby for Mex and Sussex Post by: Tails on Monday, April 21, 2008, 15:58:12 In all honesty, I can see Cheltenham and Franchise becoming more of a rival than Oxford. To the older fans, of course not. But to fans who have been watching for the last few years it will...
The rivalry with Oxford isn't as big as it's made out anyway. We got bigger crowds against Rovers this & last season than we did against Oxford when we were in Division 1. Only used to get 8,000. Crowds against the Bristol teams & Reading were always bigger. Title: Another local derby for Mex and Sussex Post by: Ralphy on Monday, April 21, 2008, 15:58:30 :ha:
snigger snigger. Mate you don't live here, believe me, the rivalry is alive and well. I couldn't give a fuck about Bristol or Reading but Oxford I hate with a passion. You can't know about the rivalry unless you living in Chipping Norton or wherever it is you are? Blimey. Title: Another local derby for Mex and Sussex Post by: Ralphy on Monday, April 21, 2008, 16:14:42 I live around and have grown up with Oxford fans is what i'm saying Ben, don't try and twist my words.
Title: Another local derby for Mex and Sussex Post by: flammableBen on Monday, April 21, 2008, 16:24:50 I'll twist your words all I want. You're being patronising and talking bollocks. Living in Oxfordshire doesn't give you a mystical insight on the state of the rivalry.
They can hate us all they want but it's got to be a two-way thing. If newer Swindon fans don't get to experience an Oxford game, the rivalry will start to diminish. Title: Another local derby for Mex and Sussex Post by: Simon Pieman on Monday, April 21, 2008, 16:27:32 I live around and have grown up with Man Utd, Arsenal, Chelsea and Liverpool fans.
I can assure you that a rivalry is non-existant but I hate them with a passion. Title: Another local derby for Mex and Sussex Post by: Ralphy on Monday, April 21, 2008, 16:35:03 I wasn't being patronising at all, I was just trying to state that there is a very real rivalry but as usual I get slated for whatever I say on here.

Yes Ralphy, you weren't at all condescending towards tails and I'm just picking on you. Title: Another local derby for Mex and Sussex Post by: Ralphy on Monday, April 21, 2008, 16:50:58 The 'snigger snigger' post was about Oxford being relegated not aimed at him, fucks sake.

Yeah because that's what I meant. Fucks sake Ralphy, you get offended too easily. I wound you up because... Quote from: "Ralphy" Mate you don't live here, believe me, the rivalry is alive and well. ..sounded like you were making out you has some authority because of where you lived. It certainly sounded like it had a patronising tone to it to me. I also argued against the actual point you were making, has the offended you too? Although Si Pies point was better. Title: Another local derby for Mex and Sussex Post by: Mexicano Rojo on Monday, April 21, 2008, 18:10:58 ace. fuck you dex, eastbourne are shit:)
i have been to the dripping pan a few times. good halls of residence behind it with some nice international students Title: Another local derby for Mex and Sussex Post by: lebowski on Monday, April 21, 2008, 21:42:27 Quote from: "Tails" In all honesty, I can see Cheltenham and Franchise becoming more of a rival than Oxford. You're right, the "older fans" who see Oxford as our rivals would be laughed at by the "even older fans" who think of Reading as our oldest and most hated local rivals. For the record, we've played Reading in the league almost twice as many times as we've played Oxford. Title: Another local derby for Mex and Sussex Post by: axs on Monday, April 21, 2008, 22:35:20 I've never seen a live match with oxford or reading.
one day. Title: Another local derby for Mex and Sussex Post by: lebowski on Monday, April 21, 2008, 22:41:42 I wouldn't hold your breath if I were you!
Title: Another local derby for Mex and Sussex Post by: axs on Monday, April 21, 2008, 22:43:10 maybe not, but I reckon we'll get one or the other within 5 years.
