I think we will just scrape a win by one goal, and another poor game.

 I was thinking that whenever we play Vale at the CG, it always seems to be wet and windy.   The only way to prevent this conspiracy of the elements and the FL computer, is to make it the first game of the season, when the rule that it must be stonking hot comes into play.

   So this was the case in 82/83, first game ever in Div 4 and 94/95 first game with the new DRS.   Both were won, with Paul Rideout and JA Fjortoft notable names scoring.

  Other than that the games seem to be utter crap, totally forgetable,  ending 0-0 or Vale nicking a 1-0, with a goal deflected off someones arse at a free kick.

  The exception to the rule would be a 3-0 win in 01/02 or was it 02/03?  when we won 3-0 with goals all scored by defenders....Gurney, Willis and Heywood.

  I see the pattern repeating today. :(

 Another one has come to mind, when we won 4-2 and Chris Hay scored a hat trick.  We paid 300K for him and he looked at the time as if we'd get 3 mill for him.

wow, what a game, ok vale were utter toss, but we played good football, should have been more than 6 but it will do.

macca was superb again today, and a fantastic solo goal,

good for joyce to get one, shuold have got 2 but sliced one wide 5 minutes prior.

Port Vale were shit in the first half, with their RB getting a pasting by McNamee. They did tighten up in the second half, and the fact we couldn't really be bothered.

Vale were not the worst team here this season tho'. That belongs to the Pikeys, who we should really have beat by at least double figures in October, and hopefully we'll have the pleasure of sending down next week, even tho' it's a 12.30 ko.

worst side here this season by a mile.we dominated them all over the park.they looked like they'd played 90 mins then kicked off straight away after against us.
macnamee is a class act, but teams will suss him and double up on him next season. the fact that his physical attributes are lacking somewhat i think there will be games where he will fail to impose himself.that said i also think there will be games where he will tear teams apart like he did today.
thought timlin and easton were superb in the middle of the park. to be fair vale were so poor i reckon i'd have looked good out there.

i've not been since the huddersfield game...we've not exactly been in promotion form since then.

 Quick check has revealed that in 53/54 we beat Torquay 6-1 with 5 different STFC players scoring and an OG.

  So this is teh first time that 6 different STFC players have scored in a league game....well done MM....total football  8)

 PS I recall a cup game at Kettering in the depths of Ken Beamish's reign when we won 7-0 with 6 different scorers...

I was a bit embarrassed to be honest, it looked so easy to score in the first half. Like kicking a half dead dog.

Mind you, that only lasted ten minutes or so, at half time I wanted 8 so I'm not satisfied at all :twisted:

First half was a mix of us playing great football and Vale's defence having huge holes to exploit every time we got forward. Great entertainment what with Peacock's overhead effort and McNamee's outrageous attempt to lob the defender and score with the volley!

Second half was a bit dull but I suppose it was only to be expected. Thought Joycehad ruined his chance when he missed that first attempt but fair play to him for tucking the second one away neatly!

Jack Smith seemed to havea good game down the right, and it's hard to find fault in the midfield - they all did pretty well. Cox looked desperate for a goal after half time and I think MM did the right thing dragging him off as he was getting greedy. MOTM had to be McNamee.

Decent size crowd for a nothing game although I had hoped we might get 8000 or so. Rubbish atmosphere but the players didn't need any encouragment and after half an hour a goal at either was always going to be pretty meaningless, so no surprise.

Which is something that we should be excited about, because if the right players are bought in, and opposition defences are doubling up on wee Tony then it will leave gaps for others to exploit.

Having never seem him play it is clear that other teams are scared shiteless of the lad. With Macca to deal with along with a half decent right winger and a creative midfielder other managers would be thinking "How the fuck do I deal with this then"

I don't know, the guy who took out McGovern, played had tennis with himself in his own area and (I think) laid it to us on a plate for one of the first half goals was pretty shocking!!

Gotta feel for their keeper, atleast he ha a bit of a laugh with the Town End and to be honest I wouldn't say he did  much wrong, he was just left rather exposed by his defence!!! Had it gone in when Cox(?) blocked his kick it would have made it even worse for him!

As for the game, superb. Yes Vale were poor, but don't under-estimate the hard work we put in as well. Well done all.

I was itching to start a chant of M A L P A S   O U T in the Kingswood yesterday, especially after McNamee's goal.

Someone confirm to me that we have actually signed McNamee permanently. 2 and a half year deal wasn't it, undisclosed fee IIRC. I told a bunch of three inbred twats sat behind me that we had yesterday as they thought he was on loan. I hope it got through to the shared brain cell......

Was with Bushey Boy for part of the game, he was late coming in and missed the first goal, then got up in first half stoppage time to get some food and missed the 4th and 5th!

Quality first half but to be honest I can't get overly excited because it doesn't matter and Vale were a disgrace to themselves and their supporters.

Left after 70 minutes as I'd seen all I needed to. MacNamee looks something special though.

 I noticed this,  didn't want to put the mockers on though by bringing it to attention with a game left.  Also our total of 39 is up there with the higher totals of recent seasons,  with a chance of getting a few more.  (mockers now put on, blame me for 0 v Millwall)

 Its 2 more than the 95/96  championship winning side.
