Title: What firewall? Post by: Simon Pieman on Friday, April 11, 2008, 18:54:28 Zonealarm is causing me endless issues, after using it trouble free for so long. It is now at the stage where I need a new software firewall for my computer. Can anyone recommend a good one to me?

Windows firewall isn't good enough for me. I don't want to get into the ins and outs of why, but it isn't. I don't mind using a free firewall/anti-virus. I used to be suspicious about such software but I am not now. In fact, I prefer open source/freeware. I already have anti-spyware programs on my pc, I will be looking for an anti-virus solution but I want to sort my firewall out first, as it is causing me a lot of conflicts. Title: What firewall? There seems to be complaints at some of the older versions but it's been improving pretty well. Probably worth a go. One of the critisisms is that it is/was a bit rubbish at handling outward stuff once you have some malware already on your computer. Am I right in thinking that's one of the biggest problems with the Windows one? Could be worth giving it a go. Most of the research came from a google search and the wikipedia page. http://www.sunbelt-software.com/Home-Home-Office/Sunbelt-Personal-Firewall/ there are a couple that friends have used in the past but I have not used them yet, the first one being Comodo as you say as I have heard good stuff about it but not ventured away from bought ones myself as yet. However, I think I may have found out the conflict and I don't think it is zonealarm's fault, I think it's an issue with D-Link's WPA encryption stuff. Title: What firewall? Yup it's certainly looking liek the latter, my wireless is buggered - only stays connected briefly then drops the connection (although it still shows as connected). Cannot remove the services though and simply disabling them in msconfig messes things up more. Bloody buggy software :roll: |
