Reading this makes me feel sick.

I know people are bound to have mixed opinions but what a desperate life to lead.  I hate the way we have so much money and people are living these kind of lives.

Its not nice, but if thats the only way they can make a living then thats what they'll have to do. South Africas hardly a super rich country anyway.

You don't have to go to another country to find a girl willing to do anything if the price is right.

The ratio though of 1 in 2 female prostitutes having aids in SA is very scary though.

Polygamy has a lot to commend it , to prevent women going into prostitution.  If a man can afford more than one wife and is capable of providing them with a decent lifestyle then why not?

  Its a culturally accepted practice in many parts of the world....I'm sure there's a few on here who would put their hand in their pocket, to purchase a tidy South African youngster or two.

It's no secret that prostitution is rife out here, and in many ways it is almost accepted despite being officially illegal.

Many Thai's blame westerners for turning Thailand into a seedy place, although the reason that sex tourists come in the first place is that sex is readily available and so it is 6 of one, half a dozen of the other really. Asides from Thailand being a poor country, meaning that the money is needed, it is also inherant in the culture as in this part of the world women are not quite considered equal and Thai men are very promiscous (SP) and to have a "Mia Noi" (Bit on the side) is considered a status symbol. Ot was only relatively recently that bigamy was made illegal here.

Occasionally a new minister or Cheif of police will come along and in an attempt to make a name for himself by "Cleaning up" the country's image by enforcing the law on prostitution. It doesn't last long though, as public outrage along with pressure and no doubt large bribes from the maffia tend to put things back to normal. Besides which a full crackdown on prostitution will no doubt cost millions in lost revenue from sex tourists and put tens/hundreds of thousands out of work.

The sad thing is that many of the girls are pressured into prostitution by their families, either directly or through pressure to make money to send back home. It is a sad but true fact that the rural Thai's are generally ignorant, it's not their fault, its just the hand that they have been dealt with. In saying that though I can see no reasoning in those who knowingly force their kids into prostitution, I have a daughter myself and her safety and happiness is my ultimate priority in life.

I suspect that things are much worse for the S. African Girls though. In Thailand their is some sort of control over it, and the girls are offered some protection from the Bar owners / Mama San's / Police (Who have their fingers in the pie) ect. No doubt there us a darker side to it all but the girls here are generally looked after and many of them make decent money.

The S. African girls however appear to have little or no protection and make barely enough money to get by on. What's more is that asides from their status as prostitutes, they are also lower class blacks in a country that until recently had appartheid. I reckon those girls have it tough from day 1.

I'd have to disagree with Dave about the % of AIDS infection being about the same with prozzies throughout the world. For whatever reason the other week I stumbled across a chart showing these figures and they vary greatly between countries and in Africa the infection levels are often catastrophic.. More desperate girls will have to take greater risks therefore increasing the chance of infection, in turn increasing the chance of the client being infected, and therefore increasing the chance of his next girl being infected, you get my drift. I wonder what the infection rate in Amsterdam is?, my guess is pretty low.

Anyway, prostitution is the oldest known profession in the world and even J.C's GF was a prozzie. As long as there are men on Earth then there will be a demand, and for as long as there is a demand then through Ignorance, Greed or desperation then there will be a supply.
