They look a bit plasticy in the pictures, but I think that's probably because they are ridiculously shiny and they're straight on so you can's see their thickness. The old ones will stay in circulation for ages whilst the new ones gradually become more and more common. I think that's what they do. I'm no royal mint expert. Title: New Coin Designs.
