Don't give a flying fuck Rich.

Annoying scousers or Chelski?  Not much of a choice really.

Actually I think I'd prefer Chelsea to go through, I hate scousers, so I do give a flying fuck.

A scoring draw would be a great result for Liverpool and if they play to their best they have a chance of getting that, cant see them winning though.

1-1, Lampard and Alonso to score.

I can see Liverpool nicking a draw tonight, and no team in the world would fancy Liverpool at Anfield on a European night.

I'm going to go with this gut feeling and say the Scousers to steal it over the tie.

I'm saying 2-1 chelsea tonight, followed by a 3-1 Liverpool victory at Anfield

Rich, put into context you can't really call Meeeee-lan shit.  You could say they don't impress you, but you can't say a team that has done amazingly well in the last few years of the Champions League is shit.  Come on fella!

Post by: Ben Wah Balls on Wednesday, April 27, 2005, 12:58:50
I hope Chelsea win, if they play to anything like their potential then they are far better than Liverpool but in the carling cup Chelsea battered them all game but needed extra time to get the win so they'll be tough games.

Title: Chelsea v Liverpool
Post by: timmyg on Wednesday, April 27, 2005, 13:07:10
I hate Chelsea. Or rather, I hate Mourinho, so I would like to see Liverpool go through. It ain't going to happen though, the Blues will win the tie with their trademark deflected goal/foul that the ref doesn't see.

And Milan are an awesome team. They didn't play well at all last night, but I think they just assumed taht they would win that game without trying. Which they did.

I do think that a Milan-Chelsea final would be the most boring since Milan beat Juve though.

Title: Chelsea v Liverpool
Post by: Ben Wah Balls on Wednesday, April 27, 2005, 13:24:31
Milan might be boring but Chelsea definitely aren't, great team to watch, players like Lampard and Robben show how football should be played. If they make the final it should be a hell of a lot better game than recent years.

Title: Chelsea v Liverpool
Post by: timmyg on Wednesday, April 27, 2005, 13:34:33
By 'players like Lampard and Robben' do you actually mean Lampard and Robben? I agree that Chelsea can play good football, but it isn't exciting football. Robben is a hell of a player and is great to watch, but in my (perhaps ignorant) opinion based on the Chelsea matches I've seen this season, watching a Chelsea game doesn't make me think 'Wow. Now THIS is amazing football' the way that watching Barca or Arsenal (and to a lesser extent Man Utd) do.

Maybe I've just not seen them playing breathtaking football...

I still hate Mourinho though. And his stupid coat.

Title: Chelsea v Liverpool
Post by: Piemonte on Wednesday, April 27, 2005, 13:39:20
Chelsea dont play breathtaking football at all.

They're a bloody good side, but the team is based around a strong defence/keeper and a hardworking yet talented midfield.

Arsenal on the other hand DID play some breathtaking football v Spurs the other night. Some great 1 and 2 touch stuff which cut spurs to pieces.

That said, the league table says chelsea are a more effective team.

I don't agree, I think Chelsea play some superb football in the game against Barcelona it was Chelsea's lightning quick counter attacking that was great to watch, not Barcelona's possession football.

Duff, Joe Cole, Robben, Lampard, Gudjohnsen and Terry are all hugely entertaining then Mourinho just adds to it. I generally get bored watching Arsenal games, didn't think any of there european games were particularly amazing to watch this season and haven't seen anything that great on match of the day either.

Totally agree that the players you've listed are entertaining to watch, and that chelsea played some good stuff that night.

In my opinion though, arsenal are a more attractive side to watch when in top gear as they were for parts of monday nights game.

Although not a long ball side like bolton , Chelsea will go long to drogba much more often than the arse who havnt got anyone who likes heading the ball up front.

You cant tell me that chelseas perfomance in the first leg v bayern was scintilating football? They knocked it long to Drogba, put the defence under pressure and picked up the pieces in midfield well. It was obviously highly effective, but pretty to watch? apart from lampards 2nd goal not really.

I agree with Ben actually, I love watching Chelsea and whilst they may not be as free-flowing and astounding as Arsenal were last season at times, they're a fucking solid team with some truly superb players. I reckon they'll win the Champions League.

Title: Chelsea v Liverpool
Post by: Ben Wah Balls on Wednesday, April 27, 2005, 16:00:12
I thought the Chelsea Bayern game was entertaining, 6 goals and loads of twists and turns, last minute penalty, loads of tension, Lampard showing Ballack how it's done. 8)

I'm a bit biased as I've always hated Arsenal and liked Spurs so I don't enjoy seeing Arsenal win but I do think Chelsea play the better football, and our top because there a much more talented side all round rather than just more effective.

Title: Chelsea v Liverpool
Post by: timmyg on Wednesday, April 27, 2005, 16:16:57
That game was exciting. Though mainly because Chelsea scored lucky deflected goals early on in each game...

Chelsea have been exceptionally lucky this season, while Liverpool have been quite unlucky. And shit. Well, mainly shit. But they did know how to keep Juve quiet, and in Alonso they have an awesome player that Lampard had to injure to get the better of in the league. It'll be a good battle in midfield between them I reckon. The poise and clinical passing of Alonso against the energy and lucky shooting of Lampard. ThoughI think the game could well be lost by the Liverpool defence rather than won by the Chelsea attack

Post by: Kinky Tom on Thursday, April 28, 2005, 10:25:42
Yep very disappointing, Gerrard had the worst game I've ever seen him play, Biscan is dross, Traore is bollox, and Baros was a bag of wank, but Jamie C - great performance!

Here's hoping that next week is a little more attractive on the eye than that, however it was a good result for the 'Pool, so long as Chelsea don't score up at Anfield.

Title: Chelsea v Liverpool
Post by: Piemonte on Thursday, April 28, 2005, 11:01:48
Indeed gerrard was shite, as was baros. Carradonna was immense though.

Cant believe how defensive Chelsea were considering they were at home. If they go out now, Mourinho is going to have some egg on his face for not going for it at the bridge.

Title: Chelsea v Liverpool
Post by: Ben Wah Balls on Thursday, April 28, 2005, 11:07:43
Thing is they didn't concede any away goals, liverpool will have to win on the night to go through. Robben should be back to near full fitness  by then, this sets it up perfectly for the second leg, both teams have an equal chance.

Title: Chelsea v Liverpool
Post by: adje on Thursday, April 28, 2005, 15:54:32
Lampard and Gerrard-supposedly the best 2 midfielders in Europe, nay the world, were both garbage. They were officialy the worst offenders of the most heinous crime in football, namely giving the ball away.Just like watching England in fact.

Title: Chelsea v Liverpool
Post by: timmyg on Tuesday, May 3, 2005, 19:30:42
T'was a very dodgy goal. I don't think it was over the line... But surely if it hadn't gone in then it would have been a pen and red card for either Cech (for bringing Baros down) or for Carvalho (for handling the ball). I reckon they got off lightly and that Cech was lucky to stay on.

Chelsea are playing as they always seem to when I watch, pretty boringly and pretty luckily. Another Liverpool goal would certainly test them.

It's amazing how little Drogba does in a game. And how quickly an injury can clear up! The goon.

At least Mourinho isn't wearing that damn coat.

Title: Chelsea v Liverpool
Post by: Ben Wah Balls on Tuesday, May 3, 2005, 19:32:46
How've they been lucky? Very unlucky to be behind I'd say.

Chelsea are really missing Duff and Robben. They've still had most of the play but Liverpool are defending well.

Title: Chelsea v Liverpool
Post by: timmyg on Tuesday, May 3, 2005, 19:52:15
Sorry, it wasn't very clear. The luck I was referring to was the potential penalty incident involving Cech which the ref ignored.

I agree that they are missing Robben and Duff, they need something to happen out wide for them. Maybe Joe Cole can grow into the game the way he seems to have done recently...

Title: Chelsea v Liverpool
Post by: janaage on Tuesday, May 3, 2005, 19:53:51
Although in a previous post I said i don't give a flying fuck I now want Chelsea to knock these happy scousers out.  Come on you blues.

Title: Chelsea v Liverpool
Post by: Ben Wah Balls on Tuesday, May 3, 2005, 20:00:05
But if Liverpool had got the penalty, they wouldn't of got the goal and Cudicini may well have saved it even if Cech was sent off.

The atmosphere is not what it was hyped up to me, just loads of whistling scousers.

It's been like the Carling cup final with the early liverpool goal and then Chelsea dominating although not so high tempo.

Hopefully Robben will be on soon and fit to really liven things up.

T'is true what you say.

Gudjohnsen is starting to get into the game a bit more now, despite taking a kick in the face. Is it true that he dived to get Alonso suspended then gloated about it? I can't say I remember to much about it...

I HATE it when players fall over and grab the ball like Lampard just did. It's the single most irritating trait of shit Italian players. Surely a deliberate handball is a card of some type?? (I always thought it was a straight red, but now I think that's only to prevent a goal/goal scoring chance??)

Yes, it was a Scouser that told me, but.....

From the Telegraph website:

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/graphics/gallery/football/champsleague/semis-leg1/liv2.jpg

Quote:
Alonso's 88th minute caution followed a challenge on Eidur Gudjohnsen, which TV replays showed involved no contact from the Spaniard.

Liverpool officials are furious today amid claims Gud-johnsen taunted Alonso after he toppled without being touched - and told the Spaniard he knew was on a yellow card already and would now miss the return.

Title: Chelsea v Liverpool

Title: Chelsea v Liverpool
Post by: DV on Tuesday, May 3, 2005, 20:17:37
Really, Alonso should be thanking Gudjohnson....otherwise he would have been playing on a yellow card tonight and if he got booked would have missed the final (providing Liverpool actually get there)...

ps. Jamie Carragher is the best defender in the world ever, pure desire & commitment...

Good point DV85, Carragher has been immense.

Tell you what, Robben has made all the difference for Chelsea. Carvalho is a very lucky boy not to be on a yellow, he's made a fair few bad challenges in the last 20 mins.

It's going to be tough for Liverpool from now on...

Gudjohnsen was ridiculously close, that would have been so funny if he'd scored and won it then.

I do like Spurs but I like Chelsea too, I just hate Arsenal so I like to see all their local rivals do well.

If Chelsea had made the final I reckon they'd have won it easy, especially if Duff and Robben were fit but Liverpool I'm not sure, they're just not as good but they've done well to get this far and it'd be great if a British team and not Man United or Arsenal won it.

Mourinho is a legend, he also saw the carling cup similarities, shame Chelsea couldn't get the winner this time.

The best thing about tonight was Mourinho taking another tip from the Andy King coaching manual by putting on Huth up front to no disecernable effect, following soon on the heels of the classic 4 centre halves in the back four, and the playing of a creative left winger Duff at left back.

Of course he's strapped for players.
